Chapter One – Ghettos of New York

September, 2
The warm autumn air rushed through the trees of the Seattle lakeside park. Families were gathered here and there playing with their kids or having picnics. A young woman sat on a bench silently as another woman stomped around the bench fuming loudly.
"He is late! He is so insufferable. Damn it" Kagome stomped around cursing her brother for being late again.
"Calm down Kay, you know him, don't get pissed!" Emeline tried to soothe her foster sister but through the fact that they had been kicked out of their home and their brother was supposed to pick them up three hours ago wasn't making things easy.
Kagome sighed and sat down beside her sister. The last few days had been very exhausting. Their parents death had been hard on them. And if that wasn't enough they also had to leave their house because of the debts of their dead parents.
Twenty minutes later a black ford drove around the corner and stopped in front of the two women.
"I think that this is our ride!" – "Yep I think you are right Emi. Well what are we waiting for. Let's go!" Kagome jumped up and ran towards the car with Emeline close on her heals. Souta got out of the car slowly smiling at his sisters. The two women dropped their bags and hugged their older brother tightly.
"I hope you missed me as much as I you." choked Souta out as he recovered from the hugging attack.
"You can bet we did but you could have made it sooner. We had to wait for more than three hours." said Kagome while stretching her short black dress. Emeline turned around and smiled at her foster siblings as they tried to strangle each other.
"Well sorry but I had some business to attend to and now I am here and we can get going!" said their older brother while he smiled at the women and picked up their luggage.
"Ahh so your tenement is more important than your sisters. What a shameful brother we have!" sighed Kagome mockingly and watched her brother as he put their baggage in the trunk of his car.
"What can I say? Sometimes I have some very unpleasant customers, some who don't pay, etc. But don't worry everything will be fine!" Souta scratched his kin while thinking if he should tell his sisters about the secret he kept from them.
After everything was in check, the three got into the car ready for the long drive from Seattle to New York. The drive was rather silent as both Kagome and Emeline dozed off recalling their parents death and the events that followed. Souta noticed the uneasiness of the two women and turned on the radio to ease them up.
"Don't worry you two. You will like New York. I mean okay it's in the ghettos but still if you know the rules than you can have a pretty live there. So don't worry I will watch over you. You even get your own apartment. What do you say?" Souta tried to reassure his sisters knowing that they hated the idea living in the ghettos.
Too tired to answer the two sisters ignored their brother and eventually fell asleep. Five hours later Souta shook his sisters awake. It was only 3 in the morning. The moon was on top of the sky as the car parked in front of a big apartment house. Gun shoots and the sirens of some cars could be heard in the distance.
"Are we already there?" asked a weary Kagome while she entangled herself from her seatbelt.
"Yep. I am the proud owner of this house. Don't let yourself be fooled by the appearance though." said Souta proudly as he stood before his tenement. He looked over at his sisters while they stared at the house disbelieving.
"Well ladies lets get you two settled in!" he went to the car and picked their bags up. After locking his ford he walked up the stairs to his tenement and walked inside with Kagome and Emeline close on his heels.
The three walked up four sets of stairs before the passed a room with the number 11 and stopped before the room number 12.
"So ladies this is your home from now on. It’s the biggest apartment I have. It has a shower, two bedrooms a small kitchen and a small sitting area. I hope you like it!" Souta watched the two girls as they walked around the small flat slowly. 'It ain't as bad as I thought it would be!' thought Kagome as she overlooked the run-down place she and her sister were supposed to live.
"Before I let you alone I am going to tell you a few things which you have to know to survive here! So listen carefully!" said the 24 year old human as he sat down on a seat behind the table. After Kagome and Emeline where seated as well he started his lecture.
"Okay. First of all I want to tell you something about the ghetto. It is parted in five parts each controlled by a gang. We live here in the south which is ruled by a wolf demon named Kouga. The west, north and some parts of the south are reigned by three gangs who are connected with each other so beware of wandering around to much. The leaders consist of three dog demons.
The oldest is Touga. He is pretty ruthless and very strict about his territory. He kills everybody who gets in his way. Then there is the ice prince Sesshomaru. Also someone you shouldn't anger. And last but not least there is Inuyasha. He is a half-demon and always gets himself in fights with Kouga but he is not so dangerous than the others.
Ah before I forget it. Never wander of into the east. It is ruled by Naraku a rather dangerous half-demon. No one really knows what his intentions are but he is getting dangerous.
Okay that was that and now to the rules." Kagome and Emeline eyed each other and gave their brother a dirty look.
"I know you both are eighteen but this is no kindergarten. It is dangerous outside. We are under Kougas protection but there are still other people who won't care about that. So listen carefully.
Number 1: Never go out at night. You will be at home before it gets dark. I know you two know how to defend yourselves but we don't want to risk anything.
Number 2: Try to clothe yourself in wide and sloppy looking clothes. Hot chicks like you two are magnets for rapists and other scum.
Phew. Well this is all for the moment. If you have any questions I have the apartment 11. Normally I work until late afternoon so you better catch me there. Ahh before I forget it. Here is some money and I have put out some clothes for you so you can hide better." Souta gave them a few hundred dollars and showed them their clothes which existed of two coats and two caps.
Both sisters were silent while Souta explained some other unimportant things. A half an hour later he left them alone with their thoughts. Kagome stood before the only big window in the kitchen area and stared outside. The whole region was run-down and filthy. Some down-and-out sat around while a few cars drove by.
Emeline soon joined her and looked at her with a tired smile on her face.
"You think what I am thinking?" she asked her sister and sat down on a chair.
"How did we manage to get us into this mess?!" answered Kagome and sighed heavily.
'Yes this is going to be interesting' thought the young priestess before tending to their new home.

A/N: So this is just the beginning. I know it’s a little boring but I promise that this story is going to get really exiting. I am not really sure about the other pairings but I will let you know soon enough. Well review then and a happy new year.
