Author's Note: Blegh. Just blegh. For some reason my muse thought it would be fun to play a game of hide and seek. I sat for a good six hours trying to get this chapter to cooperate with me. I hate how you have everything planned out in your head and then when you sit down to actually type it out it goes straight out the window. Hopefully the next chapters will be longer and less troublesome. Though I am thrilled with the reviews I have recieved! I was shocked that people actually liked my writing! I'm pretty critical when I read my own writing so I'll do my best to keep up the good work! Updates should be fairly quick seeing as I don't leave the house(I take classes at home, aren't I a lucky duck), unless of course my muse decides to go AWOL. And also I have no beta and I apologize if there are any mistakes.

Warnings: YAOI, AU, INCEST(Sesshomaru/Inuyasha). Other warnings will be added in later chapters.

Chapter 1 - The Day Life Stopped Making Sense


A dull roar built in his ears, making the hanyou cringe as it distorted his senses.

"Inuyasha! Inuyasha?!"

Thick fluid slid down his body, distantly he was aware it was blood....

"Silence. Your petty cries will do nothing to help him." He was moving. Through the wet blanket of crimson he felt the solid warmth of flesh give way to cold dirt.

Inuyasha choked on his laughter, instead coughing up more vile liquid. Even now it amazed him how detached his older brother was.

"Ku ku ku ku.....you seem upset Sesshomaru."

'What is that crazy bastard going on about now?' Sesshomaru doesn't get upset..... Frowning he tried to claw his way out of the darkness, wanting to see what exactly was going on in the battle he desperately wanted to finish.

"So eager to think you have won, Naraku. Your arrogance will be your fall."

"The same could be said of you, Lord Sesshomaru!"

Rushing wind carried the bite of poisonous fumes, and the sharp twang of an arrow hitting crystal.....

"Miroku, I have to leave you for a moment. Don't move okay?" Kagome lowered her friend to lay against the ground, glancing over at Inuyasha who lay a mere foot away.

The monk summoned enough strength to smile. "Wouldn't dream of it Kagome."

Kagome grimaced back, turning around to run right into writhing clumps of skin and bone looking for the piece that had the jewel shards. "Where is it, damnit?!" They had worked so hard to kill the monster. It would be just their luck if she didn't find the shards in time to stop Naraku from coming back to life.

"Priestess."

Sharply twisting around to her left, Kagome saw the demon lord standing by the main body. Carefully stepping around twisting limbs that tried to grab a hold of her legs, she knelt down to reach into the slimy mass, inwardly wincing as entrails flowed down her arm. Once she found what she was searching for, the miko pulled her hand out with a wet smack.

Kagome barely noticed the crumbling remains of Naraku's existance being blown away. Inuyasha was her main concern, and for good reason. Sweat was dripping down his face, his skin flushed a bright pink and harsh pants were the only indication that the hanyou was still alive. Which was a miracle seeing as he was practically bathing in his own blood. Kagome bit her lip, under any other circumstances she would have told Kirara and Sango to take him to Keade but........ From the slumped over position Kirara was in and Sango lying next to the neko as if she were peacefully asleep told her to think twice. Which left her with one choice........Sesshomaru.

'Deep breaths. You can do this! It's only Sesshomaru, he's helped us before so it would- where the hell does he think he's going?!'

"Hey! Come back here! Your brother needs your help." Kagome jogged up to the demon, even going so far as to grab ahold of a tattered kimono sleeve.

Gold eyes coldly stared at the offending limb. "Remove your hand before I do it for you."

Kagome bristled at his tone. "No!! You have to help Inuyasha, he won't live if you leave him here."

The audacity of the human girl was admirable, he'd give her that much. But the miko was trying his patience. "I have to do nothing. He was foolish enough to get himself in this situation. He can get himself out."

"If that was the case then why did you come with us? What was the point?" This didn't make sense. Sesshomaru never did something for no reason. Everything he did had a purpose whether or not they knew what exactly that purpose was didn't matter. What mattered was that he was here, he had helped them, and was still here despite the words coming out of his mouth. 'And he hasn't ripped my hand off either, there's hope yet.'

As for Sesshomaru....he was livid. Not that Kagome had any clue of this since his face was its usual mask of cool indifference but he was angry just the same. This was his chance. His chance to take Tetsuaiga and finish Inuyasha like he had been threatening to do for years. Yet here he stood in the middle of a barren battlefield with a half-dead hanyou laying broken barely a few strides away while he was having a staring contest with a reincarnated priestess.

Jerking his arm to release the grip on his clothing, Sesshomaru knew that the consequences for his actions would be less than enjoyable.

Kagome blinked, wildly trying to locate the cold-hearted demon lord. "W-where did-?" Spinning around on her heel she rushed over to where the silver-haired hanyou had been, finding nothing more than a black stain on the earth.

Kiara/SP777: I like the title too! It's a phrase I came up with after reading Tamora Pierce's book Trickster's Choice. Originally it was the title of a Naruto fic I was writing but ended out scrapping because the plot wouldn't come together the way I wanted.

Rawben: Well, as you can see Kagome won't be a complete bitch, but expect a lot of drama from her in the future! And I adore this pairing, there just isn't enough of it out there.
