~~~ Chapter 2~~~
Kagome dropped herself over the lip of the well, welcoming the time slip beneath her. Quickly she climbed out of the well and ran to her house.
When she entered she ignored her family and made a beeline for her room and shut the door behind her. She flopped down on her bed and buried her face in the pillow. “Aaaggghhh! Inuyasha! You are such and inconsiderate mutt!” She screamed into her pillow.
“I wish I could understand how you could still love her. How can a person love something that wants to take them to hell, which wants to end their life to settle a score that isn’t even their fault? It doesn’t make any sense!” Kagome slammed her head against her pillow. “She doesn’t even like him as a hanyou!”
The more she thought about it the more she couldn’t understand why she even put up with it in the first place. ‘Why do I even bother anymore? Sure, I was the one to break the jewel, but I tried. I’m useless in a battle anyway. There really is no point in me having to go back with Kikyo around. Plus he’d rather have her around by the way he acts. She can see the jewels and assist in battle. Then, when they’ve put everything back together and defeat Naraku he can freely go to hell with her. There is no way in hell I’m going back just to be number two.’
More or less trying to convince herself she stood up and yelled. “I’m never back there you bastard! Did you hear that mutt! Never!” She sat back down on her bed, feeling a little better.
Kagome’s mom heard her yell and headed up to her daughter’s room. She was already concerned as it was that she came home and didn’t say hello to anyone. Now she was screaming in her room. There was no telling what kind of trouble she could have gotten into on the other side of that well.
She knocked on her door lightly and then popped her head inside the room. “Are you okay dear?” her mother asked a little concerned.
“Huh?” Kagome said as she looked up at her mom. Realizing that the whole house probably heard her scream she blushed and replied. “Oh yes, I’m fine… now.”
She looked at her daughter disbelievingly. “Are you sure sweetie? You know you can tell me anything right?”
Kagome flashed her mom a smile. “Of course mom! It was just me getting carried away with myself.”
Mrs. Higurashi sighed. “Well if you say so… we’re glad to have you home.”
Kagome’s smile widened as she said that. “Good, because I don’t ever plan on going back there. I’m not really needed there anymore. Just think, you will never have to worry about me being attacked by demons ever again.”
Now she knew something was wrong. Nothing could ever keep her from going into the well. She cared too much for her friends on the other side to just leave them like that. Knowing that Kagome would tell her what happened if it was really important she just sighed and smiled. “Well, okay honey. Dinner will be ready shortly.” And with that she left.
Kagome sighed in relief as her mom left without any more questions. Kagome smiled to herself at the thought of no more demons, no more death threats, and every night sleeping in a house on a bed. A frown touched her lips as she thought of Sango and the others. She would really miss them and she felt bad for not saying goodbye, especially to Shippou, but she just couldn’t take it anymore.
Kagome’s lids grew heavier and heavier as her thoughts continued, and she quickly surrendered to the dream world that was beckoning for her visit.
Shippou waited impatiently for Kagome’s return at the well. There wasn’t a person back at the village that could convince him to stay there. As far as he was concerned, every time she jumped through that well he risked loosing a mother all over again. He was going to do anything he could to make sure she came back, and when she did he wanted her to see how much he cared. “Kagome, come back! Inuyasha might not need you, but I need you!” he cried.
Miroku, Sango, and Kirara had gone back to the village knowing that Kagome would probably not be back for a while. They couldn’t convince Shippou to stick around and wait with the others. He was bound and determined to be the first person she saw. Everything was normal until Inuyasha finally arrived at the village. That’s when Naraku made his move.
Before Inuyasha had a chance to react to the sudden scent of Naraku as he stepped into the village, Naraku quickly sliced Inuyasha’s back with an extended tentacle. “Aaagghh! Naraku! You bastard! How dare you show up here!” Inuyasha screamed as blood seeped through the deep gash in his back. “I should have known when I caught scent of you earlier that it wasn’t a fluke.”
“Yes Inuyasha, you really should have been paying better attention. But then again, you were a little sidetracked by your fight with Kagome. It’s a shame she isn’t here to save you now.” A smile graced his lips as the hanyou began to growl. “I really must thank Kikyo for her assistance in that matter. She truly does despise you. I would have never been able to get rid of Kagome without her help. You both played right into my hands.”
As he said that Miroku, Sango, and Kirara showed up having heard Inuyasha’s scream. Without even giving his attention to them he began to speak. “As for you three, don’t you worry. I have something for you to play with as well. You should know by now that I would never waste my time with you weaklings. I will leave that job for Kagura and Kanna.”
Kagura and Kanna quickly appeared in front of the group. Kagura sighed to herself. “And I thought they might actually win… pity.”
“You must be really dense to think that not having Kagome around is a disadvantage! Her not be around only makes her out of my way, safe, and me able to do as I please!” Screamed Inuyasha as he unsheathed the tetsaiga and unleashed the wind scar upon Naraku.
“Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,” chuckled Naraku as he emerged from the blast unscathed, his barrier unaffected by the tetsaiga’s attempt to dissolve the barrier. “No, it shows everyone how little you know. Having her around during battle is to your advantage. Having to protect your danger prone, worthless human miko always gave you the extra strength to let you get her to safety. Her miko powers assisted you as well, but not as much since she is clueless on how to use them. Without her here you are as good as mine!” he retorted as he struck Inuyasha to the ground again.
“Damn it Naraku! Stand still!” screamed Inuyasha as he was sliced again and again. There was no doubt about it, he was getting his ass handed to him on a silver platter, and he couldn’t even get close to Naraku.
Miroku and Sango watched in horror as Inuyasha was being thrown around like a stuffed dog. Kirara transformed and they attempted to run to help, but Kagura greeted them with a dance of blades. “You all need to mind your own business. As for the exterminator, I have a special treat for you.” Kagura said in a slick voice.
Sango gasped as Kohaku stepped out from behind Kagura holding his scythe and ready to fight. “Kohaku!” She reached out for him but had to jump back as he threw his weapon at her.
“Sango, you need to fight him in order to survive! He will kill you!” Miroku yelled out to the frozen Sango.
Inuyasha lifted his body off the ground when he heard Naraku chuckle once again. “Silly, filthy humans. Kohaku’s purpose here is not to fight.”
Sango screamed as Naraku pulled the shard that held her brother to life from his back and ran to his side as he collapsed to the ground. “Kohaku… no!!!”
Inuyasha could have sworn Sango’s eyes turned blood red as she glared at Kagura and Kanna, the only things standing between her and Naraku. “Houshi lets get them!”
Miroku smiled, glad for once her anger wasn’t directed at him, nodded and charged ahead. “Kazaana!”
Meanwhile Shippou was still at the well, completely oblivious to the fighting going on, crying for Kagome to come home. As the fighting increases he was startled out of his wits when he heard a huge explosion in the distance. He finally notices the wind from Kagura’s wind attacks in the distance and he jumped down the well for safety, even though it is too far off to even come close to him.
Shippou scared, of course, knowing that Naraku was attacking the rest of the group, began crying even more. He could hear Naraku in the distance, along with Inuyasha’s screams, and knew Inuyasha was in serious trouble. “Kagome, please come back,” he cried in the well. “Please, come back, we need your help! Inuyasha is in trouble!” As his tears hit the bottom the well began to glow. “Kagome!” Shippou yelled, “Help… Naraku!”
