Chapter Two
"Are you sure this is what you want Inuyasha? Once done we won't be able to change it, think wisely." Keade looked over at the hanyou, begging him to make his choice without cause for regret. It was bad enough that they were going to be losing Kagome. Now, they might be losing Inuyasha as well along with her sister. Times would be more peaceful now but they would be missed all the same. Naraku was gone now, his black soul was destroyed along with the body he'd strived so long to achieve. Everyone had thought Kikyou would be the one to purify the jewel and send both from this world. Fate had other things planned it seemed. Kagome had been the one to purify the orb and thus destroy Naraku. Yet the jewel remained, having gone back into it's original resting place. Deep inside the miko from the future, where it now resided.
"Yes, both Kikyou and I have decided, we won't leave Kagome's side. If she is to go back through then so will we. She's been through too much to be alone now. It's the least we can do for her, I think you would agree." Inuyasha sighed deeply wanting to do more for his bestfriend. He was still confused about a lot of things, mostly Kagome. She had changed over the last three months, part of it due to her condition. For years he'd been conflicted with his feelings for her and for Kikyou. He loved Kagome, that he never doubted. She was his bestfriend and he needed her with him. Yet he was still in love with Kikyou, that he couldn't change. To him they were two entirely different people, even if they greatly resembled each other.
There was some sexual attraction between him and Kagome, always would be. She was a beautiful woman, strong and very caring for those around her. That's what hurt so much, at times he wished he could love her in that way. Fate had decided that Kikyou would have his heart long before he met Kagome. He'd agonized over his feelings, knowing that one of them would be hurt in the end. As much as he wanted to be with Kikyou he didn't want to lose Kagome either. Thankfully, she'd taken the choice out of his hands months ago.
He wasn't sure who the male had been but he intended to find out. Kagome had come back that morning, he'd seen a look in her eyes she'd never shown before. True acceptance had looked him in the eye that day, ending the inner turmoil of both. Their talk had been long and heartbreaking. Kagome was changed, gone was the girl he'd known. She was stronger, more determined to defeat Naraku. A part of him missed that extra bit of closeness that had been between them. Not too mention before that day, she'd shown him a special part of herself. Whomever the man had been, had stolen that piece of her heart it seemed. That light no longer shone for him, it no longer burned for him.
A small part of him was jealous even though he was with Kikyou now. He knew that whomever Kagome ended up with, would be a very lucky man. He didn't care really about who it was as long as it wasn't with Kouga. She deserved someone strong that would take care of her and love her. Plus, he'd want to be able to be in the same room with Kagome's mate for more than five minutes without wanting to rip his fucking head off. She deserved to be happy now, she'd saved them all. He felt bad now about always being hard on her, downing her confidence. It had been his way of dealing with his confused feelings. He was lucky she was very forgiving and cared for him greatly.
Kagome now stood near the well looking out at the sky. Inuyasha could tell by the look on her face she was thinking about him. What had been so great about the guy that he'd left that much of an impression. All he'd ever gotten from her that she'd met him that evening and things had happened. Most would think badly of her for sleeping with someone she'd just met but he didn't. It was the way she spoke of him, it made the hanyou jealous at times. Seemed she'd really connected with the jerk. She got really silent and sat with a dreamy look on her face on rainy nights. Many of those times he felt like yelling at her to make her snap out of it. Really, he couldn't have been that good in bed.
'Well, he was good enough to leave her something.' Inuyasha watched Kikyou speaking with her sister, saying their farewells. Maybe in the next couple weeks he'd be able to get some information out of her. Like the guy's name and where he lived, nothing like a good talk between men. It's the least he could do for her after all she'd done for him and Kikyou. Thanks to her using the jewel on a wish that was pure and unselfish, he and Kikyou had a chance at the life that had been robbed from them. His mate agreed with him on where the subject of Kagome was concerned. Kikyou had long since given up her desire to harm her reincarnation and the two became friends. The only problem had been his indecision causing the tension between the two. Instead of fighting both had accepted the other and waited patiently for him to get his head out his ass.
He'd almost lost both of them during the final battle, it was enough to make him grow up some. Kagome turned to smile at him, he growled seeing the wistful look on her face. He had to see this guy for himself, really he couldn't be that special. Inuyasha crossed his arms trying to look angry at the miko. Instead of yelling at him, she made a rude gesture and turned her back on him. "Hey, what was that for?"
Kagome didn't answer but stared ahead, letting Kikyou say her goodbyes. She'd already done hers, she was ready to go home. Her family would be worried about her, especially now. Atleast now Naraku was gone and the jewel was once again safe and back inside her body. She wasn't sure if she was too comfortable with it there but she couldn't remove it now. As long as it didn't hurt anything it would remain there.
Her mind went back to that evening months ago, it seemed like another lifetime to her. So much had happened since then, yet that memory gave her the strength she needed. It saddened her knowing that she'd never see him again, that it had been just a one-night stand for him. Her letter had spoke the truth she'd never been able to bring herself to regret it. For one night she'd felt connected with someone that seemed to understand her. It had left her with a feeling of completion and contentment. It gave her enough strength to finally say goodbye to her love for Inuyasha. She still loved him greatly but it had changed. He was her bestfriend and meant the world to her. Her heart no longer craved his attention or his love.
She had completed her journey, now time to think on her future. Shippo jumped on her shoulder taking her mind in another direction. Seemed she'd have two children to care for in the near future. Her mother had bitched her out two months ago when Kagome had found out about her condition. Complained about spending money on pills when her daughter hadn't been taking them properly. Kagome tried to explain she'd only skipped a few days while back in the Fuedel Era. When you woke up running for your life or while kidnapped it was hard to remember to take a pill. It wasn't like there had been a great need for them either. Well not at that time anyways. Like she had known that she'd end up having one night of wild sex with a stranger. It wasn't something she had planned on, not by a long shot. It was just a shame it had been one of those months that had been hectic and she'd skipped taking some of her pills on accident. She hadn't thought of it while they'd been doing the deed. Not that she would have stopped him if it had crossed her mind. Things had happened, she'd live with it. Besides she was ready to be a mother, to both her children. There was no way she was leaving her kit behind. With what Kikyou had informed her of, she'd be able to stay with them for a long time to come. The jewel entering her once more stated that she was indeed the Guardian of the Shikon no Tama. Kikyou said she doubted Kagome aged for a very long time. Hopefully it was true, that way Shippo wouldn't have to lose his mother in a couple decades. Not to mention her unborn child.
She was only three months along and wasn't showing yet. For that she'd been glad, Naraku had never learned her secret to use against her. Not that it mattered, her child was safe from any harm. Her powers had put a constant barrier around her womb insuring the babe's safety while it grew. Shippo was very pleased about going back with Kagome, anxious to get his paws on all the candy in the future. Her only worry was Inuyasha, him and his temper. He'd matured a good bit but not enough in her opinion. Almost everyday he demanded a name, not like she'd ever give it to him. All she needed was him going searching for Yusuke. His name was a secret deep in her mind, no one would ever know who sired her child. The child was hers and hers alone. He had been engaged to the other girl, she wouldn't interfere with that. She had heard the love deep in his heart for the girl named Keiko. She wouldn't come between two people in love ever again. Even if it meant being alone for the rest of her life, no matter how long that might be.
Sango and Miroku were staying at her old village rebuilding it to it's former glory. They'd gotten married last week, then their goodbyes had been said. She was happy for her friends that were already working on their first child together. It meant alot that she'd been able to save Miroku from dying at the hands of his kazaana. Now Sango could have the family she wanted. Now all that was left was to travel back home along with the other three. She wasn't sure where they'd all stay or what would become of them. They'd deal with it once they got to that crossroad. Not only had Inuyasha mastered the Tetsusiaga, she and Kikyou together were more than enough holy damage to kill any youkai that would threaten them. She could take care of herself now but they wouldn't hear of it. They were already treating her like she was a child, unable to fend for herself. She wanted to remind them she was pregnant not crippled.
Whatever life threw at her, she'd face it head on with eyes wide open. A loud squeel was heard as Shippo went running around the well, Inuyasha giving chase once again. Their screams echoed through the air and Kikyou came to join her. "Are you sure you want to do this?" Kagome stared at the other woman that looked so much like her.
"Yes, there is nothing for me here. I only have this second chance of live thanks to you. I will do what I can to help you, plus I don't think Inuyasha would have it any other way." Kikyou smiled at the woman that had managed to change her into a better person. Not that she'd been completely bad to begin with, just bitter. Angry that she'd done her best to protect the jewel and those around her. She'd finally found love to have been betrayed and her life stolen from her. Over time her anger had deminished and acceptance had set in. Now thanks to the young girl, she could have the normal life she'd always dreamed of and with the man she wanted.
"You're right, we could always go without him. Pose as twins, hit all the bars, what do you say?" Kagome saw her surprised look and began laughing. Inuyasha started swearing behind them, having a tantrum. She ignored the words, letting her calm smile show once more. Not like Kikyou would ever leave the baka hanyou behind. She had to admit that Kikyou seemed to love him more than she did. "Are you two ready? Or should us girls leave without you?"
"We're coming you grouchy bitch. I swear ever since you got laid you've been bent out of shape. Have some patience will ya." Inuyasha's eyes widened when he saw her mouth open to mutter the word. He braced himself waiting for it, when she called for the kit instead he was surprised. Thankfully she was letting him off without making eat dirt. "Alright, let's get the hell out of here. Have a nice life Kaede." He picked Kikyou up in his arms, making sure she went with him.
Kagome held onto her kit, then climbed to the edge. "Ready Inuyasha?" He nodded then they leapt, towards the future. The familiar magic embraced her for one final time. It almost felt like it too was saying it's farewell to her. A tear slid down her face when her feet hit the bottom once more. The sky was covered by the roof, she was home. Kaede was suppose to put a ward on the well from that side and Kagome was to do the same. Her journey was now over, it left her feeling empty in a way. Inuyasha jumped out leaving Kagome to climb up the ladder by herself. It was just as well, she didn't want to be held by him right now. She focused her senses as she stepped out into the yard.
Across town she smiled upon feeling the familiar youkai aura. She was glad that she'd remembered what it felt like. Whenever she had returned home she sought it out. Only once had she been unable to feel it, worry had filled her. She'd only been suppose to return for a day that time, yet she'd remained for over three days. Unable to make herself leave until she'd felt his aura once more. It was merely to reassure her that he was still alive. Even if she never saw him, she wanted to know he was okay. "Oh, before I forget. SIT BOY!!!"
Kikyou was glad she'd waited until the hanyou had released her, it looked painful. "It's more peaceful here, I don't sense many youkai here." She expanded her senses further out. There was a few powerful ones in the distance but not near enough to concern herself. Kagome had told her of the worlds being seperated and that there was a peace treaty between the two worlds of some kind. So as long as no youkai attacked them then they couldn't kill any. That sat well enough with her, she hadn't come here to fight more youkai. Of course if one did come looking for trouble she'd be more than willing to show him the error of his ways.
Kagome saw her mother come out along with Gramps. She accepted their embrace and introduced the two new additions. Her mother understood why they'd come to stay in that era and welcomed them to the family. Souta wasn't home but at the arcade with a few of his friends. Dinner was in the oven which made Inuyasha forget about the dirt he'd just eaten as an appetizer. "Come on, I'll show you to your room." Kagome led Kikyou into the house with Shippo still on her shoulder. The kit would be sharing a room with her for now.
Yusuke slammed on the gas, Kuwabara yelled behind him. "HA, take that kid." He laughed as his car passed the other player taking the lead once again. The teenage boy concentrated gnawing on his bottom lip. The action caused Yusuke to pause, it reminded him of her. It had been three months since that day and he still couldn't forget about her. He still carried the stupid note around with him most of the time. Keiko had almost found it a few times, he kept telling himself he needed to throw the damn thing away.
The first few weeks after that night had been rough in a way. He'd decided that he couldn't change the fact that he was a youkai now. It was in his blood and Keiko would have to accept him for who he was. He didn't like computers, working, cooking, cleaning or playing the perfect spouse; he was a fighter. A huge arguement had taken place when she'd gotten back from her family vacation. She'd didn't like what he had to tell her, yet he had to be true to himself. She complained that he was never there for her. What the hell did she think he had been risking his life for all those times? His job as the spirit detective had been to keep the human world safe. Didn't she life there along with all the others?
He was haunted by the words Kagome had said to him. If Keiko really loved him wouldn't she want him to be happy and true to himself? Making sure the Makai had a good king would keep the youkai there from attacking countless innocent humans. It's not like he was trying to use it as an excuse to be away from her. He did enjoy being with her most of the time, when she wasn't being self-centered. He was doing his best, didn't he deserve credit for that much.
Everyday while Keiko went to school he was busy training to become stronger. He doubted he'd win the next tournament but it would be a learning experience for him at the very least. Training kept him from hunting down a strange thug and pounding his face into the ground. Part of him believed that she'd accepted his terms hoping to change his mind after the wedding. She'd let it slide until last week, not even a week after the wedding.
He'd come home late that evening due to Kurama wanting to try something different during their sparring session. She'd gotten angry that he was home late, not at his usual five o'clock. It was only an hour difference yet she'd gone over the deep end. They were staying with his mother for now, not like she was ever home. Keiko wanted him to find a job now it seemed, saying she wanted a place of their own. She was in her first year of college and would be a few years before she could work. He didn't want to have some uptight boss ordering him around all the time. It was too much for him, he'd end up getting fired before the day was out. She'd known how he felt about it before the wedding and said they'd work something out. The story had changed now, she was demanding that he work.
Not to mention their sex life was less than what he'd been expecting. With all the teasing she'd done to him before hand, he was expecting an active marriage. They'd consumated their marriage that night, then she'd went to sleep on him. His head had been chewed off when he'd tried to wake her up hours later wanting to go another round. Ten days since then and they'd only slept together two other nights. It was only one time, it left him wanting for some reason. Maybe he had an overactive sex drive, or it was due to his youkai blood.
His mind went back to his one night with Kagome, it caused his body to react. Not only had she responded when he'd woken her up, she'd woken him up once. He'd lost count of how many times they'd went at it. Maybe all women were different, that had to be it. Or maybe Keiko just wanted each time to be special or something stupid like that. In his mind if it was with him each time should be special.
"Dammit, what are you doing Yurameshi? Snap out of it already, you're getting beat by a little kid." Kuwabara yelled over his head bringing his attention back to the game he was suppose to be playing.
"Yeah yeah, shut up already." He saw the boy zoom around him leaving him in the dust. Yusuke tried to concentrate on his game, not on his life. Today he'd actually skipped out on training to spend the day with Kuwabara. Keiko couldn't complain about that atleast. The boy beside him yelled in truimph when he crossed the finish line proclaiming Yusuke the loser. "How about the best of three kid?"
Souta was ready to go again when the phone in his pocket rang. He smiled knowing what it meant. The cell phone belonged to Kagome, he borrowed it when she was through the well. His mom never called him unless it was something important. If she was calling it meant Kagome was back with Inuyasha. "Hang on a minute. Hello." His sister's voice caused a big grin to spread over his face.
"What the hell are you doing with my phone you little brat?" Kagome's voice came over the line.
"Sis, you're back! Is it for good this time?" Souta saw both men waiting patiently for him to get off the phone. "Did he come back with you? Really, he's going to be living with us? That's so cool. Yeah I'll be home in a little while, let me finishing beating this guy and I'll head back."
"So I'm not important enough to come home now? I see how you wanna be. Fine but stop at the store and buy some milk for me. Mom says we are all out."
"Milk got it, so how's the baby? You getting fat yet?" He held the phone from his ears letting the loud cursing be heard by anyone close. He grinned at the shocked expression the two guys were sporting. "Sorry, she's been bitchy since she got knocked up."
"DAMMIT I HEARD THAT SOUTA!" Kagome yelled into the phone, she wasn't bitchy. She was just misunderstood.
"Calm down, you're getting me weird looks with your yelling. I'll be home shortly okay?" He waited for an answer and frowned when he got none. There was a loud noise over the phone, it sounded like screaming in the background. His mother's voice to be exact, a chill went down his spine. Something was wrong he could feel it, "Don't kid around this isn't funny. Answer me, dammit." A skrieking noise came over the line then nothing. "Mom? KAGOME!" He screamed into the receiver not sure if he should panic. He jumped up not saying anything to the men, he had to get home.
Kuwabara grabbed the kid's shirt, "What's the matter punk? You okay?" He could see the worry, even feel it in the air.
"Let go of me you big jerk. I think something is wrong at home. Let me go, my family could be in danger." Souta tried to calm down knowing that Inuyasha was there but he had to go.
"Hang on kid, we'll go with you. You'll get there faster." Yusuke stood up, the name making his decision. What if it was her and she was in trouble? "Trust me, hop on my back."
"Are you sure Yurameshi?" Kuwabara asked.
"Yeah, we'll get him home. If anything he'll just get a free ride if his family is okay." Yusuke smiled when the boy hopped on getting them some strange looks. "Let's go. Which way kid?"
Yusuke ran in the direction the boy indicated, rushing past the people using his youkai speed. Kuwabara was barely able to keep up but managed. The boy was holding on for dear life but didn't seem scared at the fast pace. He didn't need the boy to tell him directions minutes later. He could sense the large energy sources not far from where they were. He recognized the readings, it was that of Enma's SDF.
Kikyou stared at the six people standing in front of them. They weren't youkai or human from what she could tell but it didn't matter. It left Inuyasha to only fight with his hands if need be but she'd still be able to kill them without any problems. They told Kagome to stay in the house for the time being, she didn't need to fight unless she had to. The lead man smirked at the hanyou that was now laying on his back. Kikyou could see that Inuyasha was still quick to jump into a fight without studying his opponent first. His way was learn as he went, that was not hers. While he kept them occupied with insults and harsh words, she studied each one.
"I will tell you one more time, bring the Guardian out. We are here on official Reikai business, King Enma himself has demanded that we speak to her. We will kill you if you keep on interfering. A pathetic hanyou such as yourself doesn't stand a chance against us. Call the girl, or we will tear this place apart until she comes forth."
"Fools, he isn't the one you should worry about." Kikyou smiled, just like a man to ignore the female believing her to be unimportant. Having the jewel grant her life had increased her power, from when she'd been the walking dead. She wasn't as powerful as Kagome now but this ragtag group was no match for her. True her lover would have a problem, but he was a hanyou. "Let me give you a taste of the power you are trying to claim." Her aura picked up, causing them to take a step back and Inuyasha to jump clear out the way. He knew what she was capable of and unlike Kagome she knew how to weild the power she had. Upon coming to life her soul collectors had changed form becoming creatures made of pure holy energy. All servants to do her bidding.
"What type of energy is this, I thought only the Guardian was capable of such power. She isn't Higurashi, who the hell is she?" The woman stuttered not wanting to die. She had no doubt the woman could purify her as well as any youkai. The power she was emitting was greater than any S class youkai. With that thought in mind she also felt a youkai approaching, "Sir, there's a strong youkai aura coming closer at a great speed. It almost feels like Yurameshi."
"Of course it is, someone like him would feel the power this bitch is emitting. Doesn't matter we have a job to carry out, if she won't step aside she will die along with the hanyou."
Kikyou could feel the aura also put paid it no mind. She'd deal with them all if need be. "Leave now if you value your lives, I have no wish to kill you but I won't let you near Kagome." The soul collectors wrapped around her body feeding off her aura becoming stronger. She really didn't wish to kill anyone but they were here uninvited demanding that Kagome hand over the jewel. Not to mention that old bastard had punched her mate. She would have to kick his ass for that small slight.
"INUYASHA!" Souta was still on the man's back as they crossed over the last step. He saw the hanyou standing a little further from a woman that looked much like his sister. "Go to him please." Both men went over to the distressed hanyou, keeping clear of the strange woman and the SDF. "What's going on?"
"We have some rude guests. Who the hell are they?" Inuyasha sneered, pissed off about the punch he'd recieved. His eyes fell on Kikyou, part of him was angry that he had to rely on her now, the other was proud that she was his. "Don't worry your family is safe and inside the house. I might not be able to kill them but Kikyou will have no problem sending them straight to hell."
Souta looked at the woman, "So, that's Kikyou?" It would explain why she looked so much like his sister. He'd heard tales of the woman his sister had been reincarnated from. So she'd been able to bring the woman back to life for Inuyasha. She was too kind for her own good.
"Yeah, I'll introduce you later kid. Better run inside before your sister comes out here." Inuyasha saw the blast coming for them and froze. The blast was huge, "Get out the way."
Yusuke saw it also, seemed the captain wasn't playing around for whatever reason they were here. He and the hanyou could get out of the way but the boy and Kuwabara were shit out of luck. "Dammit, it's going to hit. Get behind me kid." Yusuke pushed the boy behind him, planning on taking most of the blast head on. Kuwabara screamed seeing his death coming for him.

Chapter Two
