Chapter 2 Fear and Determination


Inuyasha slowly started towards the village when his hanyou nose finally picked up his brothers scent. He started running towards where Kagome had gone when he heard her scream, growling he sped up leaping through the trees. / If that bastard has hurt her I will kill him!/ Looking up in surprise and fear Shippo realized it was Kagome who had been screaming. “Sango! Miroku! Come quick Kagome’s in danger!” Running towards the outskirts of the village he didn’t even turn to see if they had followed.

Sango grabbed her giant bone boomerang and swiftly followed Shippo as he disappeared though the trees with Miroku right beside her and Kirara following behind them.

Suddenly Kagome felt a tree branch under her as she was turned to face her captor. Looking up into a pair of golden eyes as cold as ice she never thought to be afraid of the anger that flashed in them as she started to yell, “ HOW dare you put your hands on me! I told you I was not going to be ordered about now let ME GO!” As the last statement left her lips her friends burst through the trees followed by Inuyasha. “Sesshomaru! Put Kagome down and fight me!” Inuyasha glared up into the tree where he saw his brother’s one arm wrapped around Kagome’s waist.

“But why should I little brother? You obviously don’t want this Miko enough to give up the dead one.” Hearing his calm statement Kagome realized he had heard what had gone on between the two of them. In indignation she yelled, “You eavesdropper! How dare you? As if it’s any of your business! Now Put ME…” The last statement never finished falling from her lips as he pressed the point where her neck and shoulder met, pushing her into nothingness. “What did you do to her?” screamed Sango as she brought her hiraikotsu around to the front of her suddenly standing in an offensive position. “She is unharmed. I only put her to sleep so she would stop screeching in my ear.” Turning he now faced Inuyasha. “So little brother… you love two humans? When will you ever learn?” A smile almost lit his face when he heard his brother growl deep in his throat.

“Inuyasha what is he talking about?” Shippo asked, “Are you in love with Kagome?” At that Sesshomaru’s aristocratic eyebrow rose ever so slightly, “Yes dear brother tell them what it was you told the Miko. No? Then I will enlighten them. Young fox he simply stated that he would not choose between this Miko and the dead one. He would have her to mate and the dead one for pleasure, am I not speaking the truth dear brother?” The last said in a sneer as he saw his hanyou brother’s face redden in rage. “Shut up you bastard! You have no right to say anything!” Inuyasha hissed through clenched teeth.

“Inuyasha is that true? Did you really ask dear Kagome to be your mate but turn a blind eye to you and Kikyo?” asked Miroku in disbelief. Hearing Sango’s quick intake of breath he suddenly feared for the hanyou’s safety. “How dare you! She has sat back and watched as you lusted after that dead whore for the last three years! Never saying how much it hurt when you snuck off to be with her! Did you know she caught you screwing your dead whore and not two days later she still patched you up after your run in with the band of seven? I have watched her heart slowly die a little each time you went to Kikyo! No more! I will not let you hurt her anymore! I will also not let you take her Sesshomaru!” the last said as Sango slowly shook with her anger.

Miroku placed a hand on her shoulder to try and calm her while Shippo slowly turned to Inuyasha and spoke, “I can not believe you Inuyasha! You will not be allowed near the woman I will call mother ever again, even if that means Sesshomaru taking her away. I will go with her if only to keep her from you.” All eyes turned to him as he said this. “ Shippo you can’t mean that!” cried Miroku in a shocked gasp. Shippo turned to him with tears in his eyes saying, “Yes I do. I will not allow her to be hurt anymore. Sesshomaru does not wish to harm her, I would smell it if he did. I will go with them so no harm will come to her. Fear not Miroku I WILL protect her from anything.” Sango stared at him wondering when he had become so intuitive. She knew he looked to Kagome as a mother figure and if he said that he would protect her he would. She could not doubt the conviction in his small body as he leapt to where Kagome now lay in Sesshomaru’s arm. Looking up at Sesshomaru he spoke, “You may take us now, they will not interfere.” Gold eyes looked into green ones as a silent agreement was met.

Inuyasha could only watch in horror as his brother leapt to his transportation cloud and lifted into the sky. “How could you Inuyasha?” Sango’s anger filled voice reached him through his fog. “I meant every word I said! Why should I have to choose between them when they are basically the same person!” even as he said it he knew in his heart it wasn’t true. He knew they were different but he did mean it when he said he would not choose between them. “Besides I don’t think I owe YOU an explanation!” with that he took off into the trees.
