Chapter 2

Kagome sighed as she plopped down on her tiny bed. She was filled with so many questions and mixed emotions, all of which she couldn’t control. She longed for someone to talk to, someone to comfort her, but no one came. Now that her mother was away at work all day, Kagome began to feel that everyone had deserted her, and that she was completely alone.

As soon as she closed her eyes, images of Sesshomaru flashed into her mind, his cold golden eyes piercing through her, making her feel as though he was looking through her soul.

Her heart ached, and she knew that she couldn’t dwell on her past forever. She was tired of being depressed and heart-broken. Determined to fix all that, she got up and made a list of things she was going to do to try and make life better. Starting with… A formal apology to Sesshomaru.


Steam filled up the room as Sesshomaru sat in his luxurious hot tub. The hot water caressed his skin, leaving him peaceful and relaxed. Despite his efforts to forget the half demon, his mind kept going back to him. Inuyasha’s grades were slipping, he skipped school at every opportunity he got, he had been caught having sex on school grounds with some girl from the private school nearby, and was deliberately doing all he could to get his father mad at Sesshomaru.

So far, nothing had worked, but it was only a matter of time before his father got fed up, and started to blame Sesshomaru. ‘Damn all of this… I deal with it tomorrow…’. Getting out of his hot tub, he dried himself off, got dressed and went to bed, falling into a restless sleep.


The next morning, Kagome was up early in the morning and was determined to get things straight with Sesshomaru. She got to school early and made her way to his office.

Out of nowhere, a hand grabbed her shoulder and pulled her back. When she opened her eyes, she found herself staring into a pair of golden eyes. At first, she thought it was Sesshomaru, but the eyes that she looked into now, had a hint of mischief, and seemed much kinder.

‘You’re Kagome, right?’. The black-haired girl nodded cautiously at the stranger, hoping that she hadn’t done anything wrong. He let go of her shoulder and smiled, ‘Hi, my name is Inuyasha. Sorry about slamming the door into your face yesterday… I was having a hard day, and I sort of took my frustrations out on it…’.

Kagome smiled, at least there was someone who wasn’t a complete jerk or freak. ‘It’s okay… I was having one those days as well…’, she replied. ‘Hey, we still have some time before classes start, do you want to… Just hang out and talk?’, Inuyasha asked. Without thinking twice, Kagome quickly took up his offer, her apology to Sesshomaru forgotten.

By the end of the day, Kagome had fallen completely and utterly head over heels for Inuyasha. She wasn’t sure how it was possible, one moment, she was miserable and alone, the next, she was as happy as could be and in love.

‘Maybe things are starting to look up…’, she thought to herself. When she picked up her ‘to do’ list, she slapped her head as she realized what had happened. ‘How could I have forgotten to apologize to Sesshomaru-sama?!’, she exclaimed to herself. She checked her watch, and seeing that it was only 4, she ran back, hoping that he was still there.


‘Yes… Inuyasha has been fine… Okay, I’m free on Sunday… Yes, I will take Inuyasha with me… Okay, goodbye’. Sesshomaru sighed with frustration and tried to put the phone down as calmly as he could. He knew that his father would want to meet with the two of them, but Sesshomaru didn’t expect him to call so soon. He sighed and sank back into his seat, closing his eyes. There was a soft knock at the door, and Sesshomaru quietly murmured, ‘Come in’.

Kagome slowly pushed the door open, and peered inside. As she expected, the only thing she could see was the back of Sesshomaru’s chair. She walked inside and closed the door behind, getting prepared to recite the apology that she had carefully thought of.

‘Higurashi. Is there something you want?’, Sesshomaru said from behind his chair. ‘Um… Yes, I just… uh… wanted to… apologize…’, Kagome stuttered. ‘Hn… That is quite an apology you have thought out’, the silver-haired man said as he read her mind.

‘Though I think the person who should be apologizing is me. Yesterday was quite stressful for me, and I apologize for my temper’, was her reply. ‘So… How was school today?’, Sesshomaru continued. ‘Oh! It was great! I met a great new friend. He showed me around the school and gave me lots of good advice’, Kagome said cheerfully.

‘Hn… Well, now who is this ‘great new friend’?’. ‘Oh! He was in your office yesterday. His name is Inuyasha. He looks a lot like you, if you don’t mind me saying’, she replied with a slight laugh. Sesshomaru stood up and began gathering his items. ‘I’m leaving now, but I will leave you with a word of caution. Be careful around Inuyasha’. With that, he left the room, still trying to control his temper.

Kagome stood in Sesshomaru’s office, stunned at his reaction. One minute, he was being somewhat friendly, and the next; he went and told her to stay away from her first and only friend. ‘He must have gotten upset when I said that it was Inuyasha… After all, Inuyasha WAS in his office for some reason… I’ll ask Inuyasha about it tomorrow…’.


‘How dare she compare me to that useless half-demon! It’s all because of humans… Seducing father… The result was that disgusting thing…’, Sesshomaru’s beast yelled. ‘Don’t remind me… I don’t have time for this’. Sesshomaru got out of the limousine and headed straight towards the gigantic glass building.

As soon as he got into the building, his entire mood changed from being stressed out and angry, to calm and collected. He could still remember how he would spend days in the building, never once leaving it. Day after day, he would watch his company rise to the top and become more and more powerful. But ever since Inuyasha’s birth, his father and been pulling him out of the office more and more often to watch over Inuyasha.

Pushing all of that aside, Sesshomaru opened the door to his office, and the first thing he saw was a huge stack of paper waiting for his approval. ‘Well… this is going to be one hell of a long day…’, Sesshomaru said to himself.


Inuyasha stood by the gate to the all girls’ boarding school. Today was Kikyo’s day off and they had made plans to go out, but for some reason, she was 10 minutes late. When he finally saw her come out, she did not look happy. ‘How could you?!’, Kikyo yelled at Inuyasha. ‘What the hell are you talking about?! You’re the one who came out 15 minutes late!’, Inuyasha replied furiously.

‘I saw you, Inuyasha, with another girl. You two looked awfully cozy, sitting together on the bench’. ‘Kikyo, my love, she’s just some geek from school who was assigned as my tutor… There’s nothing going on!’, Inuyasha said softly. ‘Hmph… I didn’t see any notes when you were sitting together…’. ‘We were just discussing the tutor times… She wanted to have a session this afternoon, but of course I wouldn’t be able to go to that, now would I?’, Inuyasha said before leaning forward for a kiss.

Kikyo sighed. She knew that there was nothing between the two, knowing that Inuyasha wouldn’t fall for such an ugly girl when he had her. She gave him a quick then grabbed onto his hand. ‘Come on… Let’s go to my room so we can have some… privacy…’, Kikyo said with a smirk.

As soon as they got up to the room, Kikyo forced Inuyasha down onto the couch. ‘God… I’ve waited all day for this…’, she rubbed her hand along his member. ‘I hope you came prepared…’. ‘Hell yeah…’, Inuyasha grinned.


The next morning, Kagome was up early again, this time to prepare a special lunch. She baked a whole variety of different cakes, as well as preparing some homemade drinks. ‘I hope Inuyasha likes all of this!’, Kagome thought to herself.

As she walked down the halls, she saw a familiar white haired boy sitting against the wall. ‘Good morning, Inuyasha! Did you sleep well?’. The half-demon merely looked at her and yawned. ‘I guess not… Hey, how about meeting at the benches for lunch today? I baked something special for the two of us! I’m sure it’ll be a great change from having the cafeteria food’, Kagome said happily.

‘God, woman, can you just stop blabbing! Can’t you tell when someone’s tired and not in the mood to talk?!’, he yelled at her. Immediately after, he could feel himself regret doing that as Kagome glared at him. ‘Someone offers to do something nice for you and tell them to shut up instead of saying thanks?!? You know what, Inuyasha? I really thought I saw something different… Something special about you, but I was completely wrong’.

‘I can’t believe that Inuyasha said that… Jackass…’. Tears streamed down her face, and Kagome knew that her mascara was probably smearing all over the place. Inside the washroom, Kagome quickly washed off her makeup and hoped that she wasn’t late for class. ‘Hey… Are you okay?’, someone asked her. ‘Yes… I’m fine…’. Kagome looked up to see who it was, and was shocked beyond belief.

‘Ayame?! What are you doing here?’, Kagome exclaimed. Ayame had been one of her closest friends, but a year ago, she had transferred to another school, though Kagome never asked why. The red haired girl smiled and replied, ‘Well… I’m assuming you’re a demon too… My father wanted to keep the bloodline pure, so he brought me here… Are you okay now? You looked pretty upset just then’.

‘Yeah… Just guy problems… Hey, would you like to have lunch with me? I made a very large lunch, and it looks like I won’t be able to finish all by myself’, Kagome said. ‘Sure! That sounds great!’, Ayame replied.


After school, Kagome spent the rest of the afternoon with Ayame, exploring town. By the time she got home, Kagome was exhausted and wanted nothing except some soup and sleep. As she entered the tiny apartment, the scent of lasagna drifted to her, leading her towards the kitchen.

‘Mom?!? What are you doing at home? Aren’t you supposed to be at work?’, Kagome asked as she saw her mother cooking in the kitchen. ‘Kagome! I’ve got great news! I got a new job which pays a LOT better than the previous one. I will have to work more, and I MIGHT need you to come in and drop off dinner, but it will be well worth it!’.

Kagome grinned, ‘That’s great mom!!! I guess things are looking up for us! By the way, where is that you’ll be working?’. ‘Oh! It’s a company by the name of Takashiro… Have you heard of it? It’s one of the leading companies in Japan now! It turns out that an old friend of mine is working there, so that's how I managed to get a job.'

‘Takashiro… Takashiro… I’ve seen that somewhere… Hmph, oh well, let’s get back to the celebrations, shall we?’, Kagome exclaimed.
