Making It Through

A/N: This will be a slightly dark fic.
Chapter Two
The female youkai stood not far from the entrance into the human world. After several months of searching she'd finally gotten a name, Yukina. She had no other information but Hina's daughter was in the human world somewhere. So that's where she would head for now. She'd visited the floating island recently. There was no way for her to take her vengeance now, plans had to be made.
Her senses scoped the area, preparing to head through. Only one thing concerned her, the presence she felt close by. The others were nothing compared to her but that one could be a problem if he tried to interfere. Her father had told taught her the basics of fighting and self defense but she was no seasoned fighter. In this case she would have to count on her speed to get her through.
Her long white hair blew behind her as a gust of wind passed by. It was time to make her move, time to go. She sprinted across the distance aiming for the doorway. A sharp pain across her abdomen caused her to gasp in pain and falter. She landed on the ground and rolled over to see her attacker.
The man was shorter than herself with spiky black hair, wielding a katana. He sneered at her, "Fool, did you think you could make it past me? I suggest you turn around before I end your life."
Panic filled her for only a minute, so he was as fast as her. Didn't matter he wasn't going to stop her from going through. She got to her knees then buried her face in her hands. Her shoulders began to shake, she forced tears to spring furth. Thoughts of her departed father helped to bring them on. The man lowered the weapon when he smelt her tears. "Please, they will find me if I don't leave. I have to run away, I don't want to die."
He took a step forward not sure what to do, he didn't sense anyone. Yet the tears were geniune. "Who?"
She smiled a split second before she brought her fist up. His groan of pain was heard as it impacted into his groin. Not wasting a second she sprinted towards the portal. She heard his outraged cry as she went through.
Blood was pooling down her side of her leg as she ran, she'd deal with the wound later. He was sure to give chase.
Kagome stepped off the bus ready to head home for the evening. She would walk the rest of the way, needing to be alone. Her temper was short of late, unvented anger built up. She'd need a way to let it out soon or she'd snap. Her family was keeping a wide breach of her lately. Not that she could blame them, she wasn't the best company of late.
Walking down the sidewalk she felt a tug in her soul, pausing her treck. The jewel was once again glowing in her side. Her eyes opened wide at the feeling. Why would it awake now? Her run led her down the street to the left. Ending up at the local park, nothing could be seen.
She ran past the merry-go-round and the swings to the wooded area. Her senses picked up a strong youkai aura. She made sure her shielding was in place and made her way over carefully. At first she had to catch her breath, disbelief filled her at seeing the long white hair. Then the face turned and she saw it was female. The girl was leaning against a tree holding her middle. Pain etched over her soft features. Another youkai presence was coming towards them fast. She ran over to lean down over the girl, "Let me help you."
The girl groaned as Kagome leaned over her trying to lift her up. A pulsing sensation began in the miko's side. A set of red eyes met blue, then the injured girl was gone. Kagome grasped the air where she'd just been. Her eyes scanned the area and saw nothing.
She stood up and ran into the park when she felt the menacing youkai aura getting closer. A kid ran by her laughing heading for the swings. She took a deep breath and let her mind wander, where had she gone? The aura stopped suddenly and she lifted her eyes to see the source.
Not wanting to look out of place she walked over to the merry-go-round where a bunch of kids were playing. They all climbed on and she spoke to them. "I'll push you, hold on tight." She pushed the metal bars as the short man began walking across the park. His eyes landed in her direction but quickly moved on. The kids began laughing as they enjoyed the ride she was giving them.
They were spinning and screaming as she turned her head to look at the little man. He stopped for a brief moment and looked at her. She offered him a smile pretending she being nothing more than a friendly bystander. He looked her over for a minute and moved on. She continued to spin the children until she felt him leave the nearby area. "Gotta go, you kids have fun."
