Chapter Two


"I know what you mean. I hate it when he gets that evil grin on his face and looks right at you. He knows you don't know the answer and calls on you on purpose. I swear he does it to humiliate me." Kagome groaned thinking about it. Her essay was done and Keiko had asked her to stay for lunch. They were now discussing their professor.

"I think he does it to make himself feel better." Keiko picked up her glass and took a swallow. "He never calls on me though."

"Because you are smarter than him, he doesn't want to point that out." Kagome laughed. There was a knock on the door.

"Wonder who that could be, I'm not expecting anybody." Keiko got up leaving Kagome alone in the kitchen. Her feet took her across the floor to the front door. She was still smiling when she opened it, "Yes?" A scream tore as the man shoved the door open causing it to slam against the wall. She instantly took off and ran into the kitchen.

Kagome stood up when she heard the girl scream. A few seconds later, Keiko had her hand and was pulling her out the backdoor. She wasn't sure what was going on but had felt a strong aura enter the house. Something told her not to ask questions but to keep running. They hit the street and took a right.

Keiko's instincts told her to head to Genkai's if she could make it. It was better than nothing, the guys had gone on a mission for Koenma. Her only hope was making it to the old woman, she was just glad Kagome hadn't forced her to stop and demand answers. The other girl was keeping up with her as they made their way down the street.

Kagome could feel the evil presence following them, it was merely toying with them. There was no way it was going to let them escape. "Keiko, he's right behind us. We can't outrun him, who is it?"

"I don't know."

"Okay, so can I also assume you have no idea why he is following us?" Kagome didn't like the sound of it. She hadn't had any trouble with youkai since she'd been back from the fuedal era. Then again it's not like they could sense the jewel any longer. It was gone from this world. If a youkai was following them after showing up at that house she assumed it had something to do with who lived there. She had sensed the aura of all three men, they had been youkai. Great, just her luck she tries to get a little help on her essay and now she's being chased. If she survived this she was definitely slashing that man's tires. This wouldn't be happening if he could have just passed her.

Kagome screamed when she felt something slam into her back knocking her down. Still holding onto Keiko the girl came down with her. She landed on her stomach skinning her elbows on the way down. Keiko went to her knees trying to help her up. Her eyes widened when she saw some type of blast hit the girl in the chest.

Kagome watched as she fell back, head falling to the side. "Keiko," She tried to get up, a hand fisted in her hair yanking her to her feet. She was soon looking at the youkai as he sneered at her. Her hand came out slamming him across the face. Her energy filled her hand, he dropped her as his face was suddenly burned. Her arms went around the other girl, there was no way she'd leave her.

The youkai stopped screaming long enough to emit a blast big enough to slam into both of them. Kagome felt it impact before she could erect a barrier. The back of her head hit the pavement seconds before darkness took her.

"I don't see anything. Don't tell me we were sent here on some wild goose chase."

"Patience Yusuke." Kurama looked around the vacant lot. It was exactly that; vacant. "Koenma wouldn't send us out for no reason. There was strange activity here last night, look for any clues."

"Fine." The boy took off in a direction, so much for enjoying a day hiking. Instead he'd gotten bitched out by Keiko, a vase thrown at him and then her snotty friend had threatened him. Now he was out here in the middle of nowhere and with no one to take his anger out on.

Kuwabara went off on his own to look around. Something didn't feel right to him, then he spotted it. "Hey guys, over here." The others joined him to look down at the corpse of Suzuka. "Don't we know him."

"Yes, we do." Hiei scowled at the mess the man was in. "I'm assuming there is a reason why his body is horribly dismembered but his face was left untouched. They wanted us to recognize him."

"What's that in his hand?" Kurama leaned down not wanting to slip in the mass of intestines scattered around the body. He pulled an envelope smeared in blood away. Out came a sheet of paper with unknown handwriting scattered across. The fox began to read, "He was just the first, your loved ones are next. Know that you are too late to help them. His suffering will seem like child's play compared to that of Keiko, Shiori, Shizuru and Yukina."

"Dammit it's a set up."

The youkai deposited both girls on the ground next to the other three women. "Here, I wasn't sure which one she was so I grabbed the two that were there. Better put some type of ward on that one there as well as the ice apparition. Bitch burnt me somehow when she hit me."

"It doesn't matter, she was a waste of time. The other bitch is the one that belongs to Yurameshi. You two put the wards on all the females, I won't have any mistakes here. She will just be another one to sell later." The man stood showing off his tall muscular frame, his long blue hair fell to his knees. "Someone go get Karasu, I'm sure he will want to know the first step has been completed."

Kagome came to when she felt someone try to attach something around her neck. Her powers flared on their own not wanting the object there. She heard a loud yell as the man jumped back from her. Her eyes opened and she saw a man standing near her. Panick filled her and she scrambled to her feet, her eyes saw the open door.

As she ran for it a hand grabbed her around her arm. She spun around and grabbed the offending appendage. Her aura flared around it causing the youkai to start screaming. Once he stumbled back she took back off. Laughter was heard as she made her way down the hall.

She rounded a corner to slam into a hard chest knocking her flat on her ass. Her head jerked up to stare into a pair of penetrating black eyes. Her breath caught at the sight of him, then she gasped as someone grabbed her by the hair.

Regardless of the pain it caused she spun around and struck out at the man. "Get off me." A sizzling sound was heard as her fist impacted with his chest. His hand came up slapping her across the face. She stumbled back into a hard chest, hands went around her shoulders.

"You fucking bitch, I'm going to kill you." The youkai took out his sword.

"Stop." The man behind her spoke. "Blame yourself if you can't handle a mere girl. What is she doing her? She isn't one of the four."

"She was with Yurameshi's bitch, so Desano grabbed both of them. I say we kill her, she is no use to us."

"Isn't she?" He grabbed a strand of her hair, running it through his fingers. "Go fetch me a collar. As much as I want revenge on the fox, I don't care for older women. This one may prove to be useful to me."

Kagome wasn't sure what was going on but she didn't like the sound of it. She began to struggle until she felt the man's breath on her neck. His energy clung to her and she stilled.

"I see you are no fool." He took the collar from the man and placed it on the girl's throat. He noticed how her skin began to glow before it was latched. Something told him she was no average human. His hand came up striking her in the neck. Her body crumpled to the ground, "Take her back in the other room for now."
