A kiss...
Chapter 2
Shippo rubbed his eyes, gently remove the last of the sleep from them. The sun barely crested over the distant hills, its soft orange and pink light was creeping is way along the countryside toward the camp. The little fox-demon scanned their camp site, his head moving slowly from where Inu-Yasha and Kagome to Sango and Miroku.
The fox-demon shook his head in disbelieve, at the scene that was before him. He feared that maybe he was still sleeping, and this was a very unusual dream, but a quick pinch on his cheek proved otherwise. He edged his way over toward them, taking great care not to make a sound. Once he was around arms reach of them, he peered closer, examining the situation a tad more.
He nearly laughed, once he realized that his eyes did not lie. Indeed, Sango and Miroku were not only next to each other, but their arms were intertwined. He started to wonder what he had missed out on the night before, and if the other two knew anything of it.
Before his brain could dwell much longer, Sango shifted against Miroku, and took in a deep breath. Shippo, mouth agape, stood for a moment paralyzed, before he scurried over back to his resting pad, hoping he wasn’t noticed.
Feeling the soft inhales and exhales, Sango new that Miroku was still asleep, and just laid there next to him with her eyes closed. She noticed that their hands had remained joined the entire night, and squeezed his ever so gently.
She opened her eyes, finally, using her other hand to block the early morning glare. She seemed to be the only one awake, her eyes moving through the camp. stopping at Shippo. She felt a slight flush of embarrassment knowing that the little demon had seen them like this. At least he might keep his mouth shut about it, especially if he knew what was good for him.
After that little moment, she released Miroku’s hand, and slid her arm out from his. Making sure he was still propped up, she stood a stretched her tired body. A few of her overworked muscled popped when she did.
Once she felt a little more awake, she moved over to in front of Miroku, and tapped him lightly on the head, “Houshi-sama, wake up,” her words were softly leaving her lips.
Feeling a lithe finger poking his forehead, Miroku stirred from his slumber. His eyes barely slit open, he could make out the colors of Sango’s kimono, and he smirked at hearing her waking him.
“Good morning, Sango,” he said while he let out a long yawn. He ran his fingers through his hair before he began to stand up. He yawned again, before focusing his attention towards Sango fully. He smirked again, his eyes meeting her soft brown orbs.
Sango’s heart began to bound a little faster, even though he had that look in his eyes before. This time it just seemed different, and part of her was afraid and excited all at once. He started to move in closer toward her, every centimeter made her heart race even more.
When there was almost no space left between them, her head began to swim, her stomach felt like it was knotting up and her knees were trembling slightly. She could barely think, all she was able to do was watch as his arms began to wrap around her, pulling her close against his body.
Had it not been for a sudden yawn from Inu-Yasha direction, she was not sure what would have happened. She regained composure hearing the others begin to wake, and she yelled, “Pervert,” as her hand slapped the monk.
And everything seemed like it had returned back to normal.

The companions had been traveling down the earthen road, a village now visible on the horizon. It looked inviting enough, surrounded by two large hills, and a thick stream moved along it eastern border.
However, they rarely headed towards a town for simple sight seeing. The possibility of a Shikon Jewel shard had pointed them in the direction of this secluded village in southern Japan.
Business as usual crossed Sango’s mind. It was not like she did not want to hunt down any potential demon, but part of her wished for a temporary reprieve from all this excitement. Like she almost had when they thought they had killed Naraku some months back.
The thought of the shape-shifting fiend crossed her mind, and what he had done to her brother. It filled her with both hatred and sadness, but she refrained for showing any of this.
Instead she decided to look over toward Miroku, letting him occupy her mind for the time being. She noticed the red mark in the shape of her hand on his cheek, and looked away for a moment.
Sorry, Miroku, I just couldn’t let them see me like that she thought, wishing she could tell him. Based of his reaction though, it seemed he understood why she had done it. There conversation from the night before would have to continue later.
Of course she wanted to continue what seemed to be happening this morning as well, and just thinking of that made her heart pound a little harder.

Once inside the confines of the villages walls, the companions were able to find a rather quaint inn, complete with a rather large hot spring behind it.
After they had placed their luggage inside their rooms, they met down in the buildings dining area to discuss their plans. Inu-Yasha stood some distance away from the group, his eyes occasionally looking towards them. Kagome and Shippo were on one side of the table, with Sango and Miroku on the otherside.
“Okay,” Kagome began, “ I say that Miroku and you go around and ask the villagers if they have noticed anything unusual, while Inu-Yasha and I will see if we can sniff it out.” She looked towards the little fox demon, “As for Shippo and Kirara, I believe it would be best if they stay here, and monitor for anything suspicious.”
“I guess we should just settle into our normal routine then,” Sango said, in agreement with Kagome’s paln, plus this gave her some time to see what had been bothering Miroku.
“That is correct, see you two here later on tonight,” Kagome said happily, as she stood up and moved over to Inu-Yasha. Once she was about at where he was, he turn and headed out to go find the demon, Kagome right behind him.
Sango ran her hand over Kirara’s head, looking down at her companion. “Now you just run and find us if something happens here,” she ordered the cat-demon.
She stood up then, follow almost immediately by Miroku. She looked over to him, and hoisted her boomerang onto her back, and started heading out the door.

They had questioned about nine or ten villager since they had left the inn, and still no hints as to what might be in possession of a jewel shard here. Sango figured this would be one of the best times to ask him.
“Houshi-sama,” she said softly after they had moved down one of the alleyways between some house, “what was it that had bothered you?”
Having kept his mind of that subject, Miroku, sighed remember how unusual his wind tunnel had felt lately. “I’m sure it is nothing,” he attempted to reassure her, “but it seems that my wind-tunnel does not feel quite the same as it has.”
Not surprised at the source of is stress, she sighed, a little relieved at knowing what had bothered him. “That does not explain your change in behavior that much,” she began, “You ignored me for nearly two days. That had me worried.”
“Forgive me, Sango,” Miroku spoke, stopping to look back at her, “but I was afraid that it was more serious than it appears to be now.”
She stopped almost as soon as he did, her gaze moving towards his. Once their eyes crossed, she got the same feeling she had that morning, but without Miroku near by to support her, it showed. She placed one hand against the wall, to set her balance.
Miroku not realizing the cause of her problems, moved closer towards her. He was about as close as he had been that morning, Sango’s heart now trying to leap out of her chest. Each heartbeat made her feel like she was going to collaspe, dropping her boomerang behind her.
Miroku quickly snatch up her free hand, and supported her against his body. He felt her body easily through his robes, feeling each pump of her heart. He let out a small laugh, realizing why she was so weak suddenly.
“Sango,” Miroku softly purred her name, lifting her chin up with his other hand. Bringing his lips dangerous close to hers.
With each breath he took, her she felt how close his where to her own. This sensation was quite new to her, and she was little afraid of what this might lead to. “Housh...” was all that escaped her lips, barely audible before his lips met hers.
He did not kiss her for too long, nor too forcefully. All she felt was his soft lips tenderly placed against hers, suspending her breath for the whole time, until he pulled away.
