Chapter Two
"Is she coming again today mother? I want to show her what I can do."
"I don't know son, she is very busy. If she has time she will come, she cares for you." The lady picked the child up and carried him through the village. She ignored the stares as they passed.
The little boy in red cringed at the stares directed at him. He would tell her later, that they were being mean again. His mother placed him inside their home and he began to play with his ball once more. He laughed as he kicked it around the wood floor. The door swung open and his friend walked in, she didn't speak to him but went straight to his mother.
"He is coming for you and the child."
His mother looked very scared, "No, Inutaisho won't be back for weeks now. So he's come to take his revenge this way."
"Keep yourself and Inuyasha behind me, I will do what I can."
"I can't ask that of you, you owe us nothing." His mother picked him up, he could see the tears rolling down her face. All he could see of his friend was the back of her hair. It was pulled high on her head pulled tight into a bun.
"I will protect my lady and her son. Hopefully, I can do enough."
Inuyasha woke up in a sweat gasping for air. For some unknown reason his heart ached and tears were streaming down his cheeks. He cursed as he wiped his face clean. Everyone else was still sleeping peacefully below him around the dimming fire. He'd been dreaming of his mother again. For the last two weeks his dreams were filled with his mother and images of him as a child. Someone else was there sometimes but he couldn't see who it was. The image was always blocked out, he quickly forgot the voice as soon as he woke up.
The crickets were noisy tonight along with the frogs. He scanned the area nothing seemed amiss. He jumped down to sit beside Kagome. She was curled up in her sleeping bag with Shippo. Looking at her caused a tear to fall unchecked. He wiped the offending moisture away, "What the hell?"
He jumped back into the tree and stared down at the girl. She was still mad at him from this morning, she could stay mad too. He looked towards the west and sighed. Maybe that was why he was having the dreams. Within two days, they would be near the village where him and his mother used to live. He couldn't remember why he had left, just his mother dying not long after his father. He had been alone that he remembered. Hell he couldn't recall meeting Sesshomaru for the first time for some reason. He had images of him but the actual meeting was blank. His brother's face had been engraved in his memory though.
Dawn came as everyone woke up to begin their search once more. They'd started out this way after Kagome had felt the tug of a jewel shard heading West. It was too far to tell how many or how far exactly but it was a lead. He ate his breakfast in silence and Kagome questioned him about his behavior. He couldn't shake the feeling that he should turn back that he wasn't prepared to see his old home again.
On they went towards the west, the next day dawned clear and too soon. Around noon the hanyou became agitated and annoyed. Miroku on the other hand demanded that they stop at the village for the night. A storm was brewing and it would be wiser to sleep under shelter than to stay exposed. Inuyasha couldn't give them a reason not to stop so he went with them.
Kagome was walking beside Inuyasha worried over his silent behavior. For the last two weeks or so he'd been grumpy and sullen. Something was bothering him but he kept denying it. They entered the village, the first set of children they came across stopped to stare at the odd group. It was usual for them to get some stares. The miko soon noticed it was more than that. They were looking at her friend with pure hate and resentment.
One child ran up to him and actually spit in the hanyou's face. He swore and went after the child. "Sit boy!" Miroku sighed and looked around, usually someone would have greeted them by now. Everyone stayed back like they had the plaque. A shrine of some sort was placed in the middle of the village. Deciding to take a look the houshi walked over and everyone followed except the hanyou who was still eating the dirt. After further examination he noticed it was a grave marker. Beautifully done in design, whomever was buried here had been of great importance.
Inuyasha stood up finally, he was beyond pissed. There was no way these people remembered him from all them years ago. Anyone that had been alive was long dead. He stormed up to the shrine of some sort and snorted. "Waste of dirt." He felt a fist land across his jaw knocking him into a building.
He jumped to his feet. Someone was going to pay for hitting him. He looked around and started gaping like all his friends. Sesshomaru was standing in front of the marker, seperating it and the hanyou. His amber eyes were tinted in red and his claws were flexed. His usual emotionless face was a mask of fury. "Don't you dare come near, half-breed."
The villagers started whispering amongst themselves. Kagome heard things like, "I told you it was him." "So he is the cause for the village's misfortune." "Why did he come back, didn't him and that mother of his cause enough trouble already." She didn't know what they were talking about. The small group had never came to this small village before and Inuyasha had been pinned to the tree for fifty years before he joined her. Surely these people didn't know him.
"Like I really want to. It's just a stupid grave, idiot."
Inuyasha found himself up in the air gasping for breath before he could blink. Sesshomaru started to squeeze his windpipe, Inuyasha clawed at his arm but his brother wouldn't let go. Kagome screamed his name but neither payed attention as they glared at each other.
"The Lord is finally going to kill him. The Lady will finally be avenged, he caused it all."
"What are you people talking about?" Miroku asked loud enough for most to hear.
"So, you did not tell them little brother? Or do you even remember?" He looked at him. "Surely you know where you are." He released the pressure on the throat so his brother could answer.
"Yeah, I know where I'm at. My mother and I use to stay here. What of it." He saw the puzzlement in his brother's eyes.
"If you do not remember then I will not tell you. If I hear word of you going near the grave, I will have your head." He turned and walked away.
"The Lord let him live but why?" An elder man walked out. "Even if Lord Sesshomaru has let you live, I will not permit you in our village. Leave now Inuyasha."
"How the hell do you know me old man?" Inuyasha walked forward not caring that he was getting close to Sesshomaru's precious grave.
"I have never had the misfortune of meeting you before today. And I had hoped to live my lifetime without ever meeting you. We don't particularly care for your brother but he is the Lord of these lands. I will not tolerate you being here. Leave here before you cause another death." The old man glared at him.
"Hn. Fine," He turned not looking at any of his friends. This village could shove it, they didn't need to stay here.
Naraku sent Byakuya to pose as a human that same evening. He was to find out why the villagers hated the hanyou so much. He fit in perfectly. He walked around hearing pieces of information here and there.
"I can't believe he had the nerve to show up here after all this time."
"Then have the nerve to walk up to her grave. That half breed deserves to die. If only she were alive she'd exact her revenge on him."
"That's the bastard hanyou that killed the priestess Leiko."
"He was the one that did it, she is dead because of him."
"My great grandfather was there as a child, he saw them carry her dead body into the village. She was then burned and buried here."
Byakuya walked out the village to give Naraku the information he had learned.
