Anata no watashi wa Tomodachi desu ka?

A/N: Wow, even I am getting wrapped up in my story. O_o Well, here’s chapter 2. Hopefully I’ll get chapter 3 up before I leave this Friday for Kentucky. Vacations are the win! =) If not, It will be a week or more until I can update again. Gomen. =( Well, here’s looking at you, kiddies.

Disclaimer: Nope. I don’t own Inuyasha or Yu Yu Hakusho. I just wish to ravage the bishies contained within. ;)

Lesson 2: Anata no watashi wa tomo dachi desu ka? (Are you my Friend?)

Kagome grabbed her small backpack and tossed her money and some simple things inside. ID, lip gloss, and some shades as she pulled her hair back into a pony tail. The heat today was making the back of her neck sweat. She thought about grabbing a jacket, but decided against it. After all, she wasn’t planning to stay at the festival until night, Souta would just have to understand.

She took the stairs slowly, thinking twice and running back upstairs. It was a good thing this was the Summer Purification festival. She delved deep into her closet and retrieved her miko clothes and quickly dawned them, grabbing her bow and arrows before slowly descending the steps once again. ‘People will just think I’m dressing up for the festival. It’s the perfect guise.’ she thought, Midoriko’s words echoing in her head again.

“Souta, you ready to go?” Kagome shouted out, finally ready to head out. “Yeah, sis! Just give me a second!” he shouted back from somewhere in the house. ‘And he was yelling at me all that time to hurry up…’ she thought sarcastically, as she readjusted her bow. She watched her mom come out of the kitchen and she looked surprised at the clothes Kagome was wearing. “Kagome…is there something you want to tell me?” she asked, worry laced in her voice. “No, I just felt like dressing the part. It is the Summer Purification festival after all, and who knows purification more than me, ne?” She actually laughed, convincing her mom. “Alright. Well you have fun, okay?” she nodded, a small smile coming to her face. Suddenly, a yellow streak flew next to Kagome, making her jump in surprise.

“Mom! How long can we stay?” Souta asked, a smile on his face and a small backpack in his hands.

“As long as you want. Just don’t be coming in at 4 in the morning or anything.” she joked, pulling her son into a sweet embrace.

“Come on, squirt. Lets go before it gets too late to go.” Kagome said, actually feeling better about leaving the house. ‘Maybe I can find out if what Midoriko said was true. Time to see if I can feel out demons as well as I felt out jewel shards.’

They headed down the steps and in walking to the festival Kagome immediately got bombarded by people wanting to take her picture. “You look just like a miko!” one person said before taking her picture. “Is that bow real?” another one asked, touching the wood. Kagome smiled. Her plan had worked wonderfully. After a couple of minutes, Souta dragged her away from the crowd forming. For once, she was glad he came with her.

Souta headed for the amusement park first, and Kagome thought it better to just buy them pay one price bands and be able to ride as many rides as they wanted. After getting the wrist bands, they rode a couple of lame rides that Souta wanted to ride, and then Kagome saw the Ferris Wheel. “Lets go up there.” she said, taking Souta’s hand. Immediately, he started to protest. “But sis! We should wait til its dark to ride the Ferris Wheel!”

Kagome smiled. “Don’t worry, we’ll ride it again at dark, okay?” she said, already her mind had been made up. She could do a lot of scanning from up there. He grumbled slightly, but he saw her smile, and stopped. She hadn’t smiled in three weeks. Ever since she was forced to come back. She came through the well and she was crying so hard. Everyone knew what was wrong. She was done with her quest and she wouldn’t be able to see her friends again. He sighed. He hated to see his sister cry.

She pushed him in front of her and snapped him out of his train of thought. They boarded the Wheel and went all the way to the top slowly as other people were being loaded up into the buckets. At the top, Kagome concentrated quickly and spread out her miko energy, testing the many people below her walking around.

Surprising to her, she felt many tiny demonic energies. Nothing threatening winding its way through the energy, just many demon auras. She scanned slowly, noting that some of them reacted to her touch, while others didn’t. She smiled to herself, mentally patting herself on the back as she felt out each energy. Suddenly, her face went scared. Souta laughed, as he said, “You afraid of heights, sis?” Kagome looked back to him and offered a weak smile. She grabbed the bar in between them for emphasis. There was no way she was going to scare him.

She scanned again, picking up the two demon energies. One was almost human like, but she could sense the demon within it. The other was conflicted. The energies within the demon clashed violently together. Suddenly, the demons slowly responded to her prodding. She jumped back in surprise, and sighed. They didn’t want to hurt her, only find out what she wanted. She took a deep breath before slowly pressing her energy back up against them.

By this time, the ride was over, and Kagome refused to let them go without finding out who they were. She grabbed Souta’s hand and gave him another smile, making sure that he didn’t know what she was doing. He stopped at a booth and Kagome almost yelled in frustration. She had lost the energies. She sighed, hiding her disappointment.

Kurama and Hiei had earlier lost Yusuke and Kuwabara in the crowds. They were thinking of leaving themselves, but just as they went to go, the same explosion of aura they had felt earlier in the day came floating over them in a more gentle manner.

‘Did you feel that, Hiei?’ Kurama asked, slowly touching the aura back.

‘Of course, Fox.’ he replied, also identifying the aura.

‘You feel that, Red? Can you feel how pure that energy is?’ Youko spoke up, intertwining his energy into the line that Kurama had extended. ‘I can. Isn’t it impossible to have that pure of an essence, though?’ he asked back, confused.

‘The person behind it must be incredibly loving and compassionate. You see that the person isn’t scared…’ he broke off when Kagome’s energy had pinpointed them.

‘Spoke too soon, Fox.’ Hiei interjected before both of them noticed the person quickly pull back their energy before cautiously approaching them again.

Kurama infused calm into his energy before reaching up to meet hers again, almost instantly calming her ki. Hiei did the same, although more guarded, as the energy was making him feel slightly uneasy.

At that moment, Yusuke and Kuwabara came back, both shouting, “Hey guys!” Kurama dropped the line in surprise, but also felt the girl had lost her end of the line too.

“Dammit, Yusuke!” he shouted, frustration taking over him and Youko. ‘My sentiments exactly, Red. That energy is so interesting. I want to meet the owner of a such unique feel…damn that detective…’ he growled, now pouting in the back of Kurama’s mind.

“Kurama? Are you okay?” Yusuke asked at the unusual outburst from his team mate. “Fine.” he replied, getting his anger under control.

Hiei smirked at Youko being upset. ‘Attached to the energy already, eh, Fox?’ he questioned, still smirking. A low growl emanated from the back of Youko’s throat, before turning his attention back to searching for the unique aura.

Yusuke and Kuwabara left, after receiving a call from Botan on their communicators.

Kurama went back to scanning the area, only to discover the person was extremely close to them.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome used her skills to win her and Souta a couple of plushies from an archery game and then she headed off to find her grandfathers stand. He was selling replicas of the Shikon no Tama and she had to stifle a giggle. The real thing was so much bigger and held so much more shine than the things her oji was passing off to tourists.
She looked back to where Souta was just looking at some swords when she realized with dread that he was gone. She looked around quickly, her fear rising, hoping he just moved without her seeing, but she didn’t see him. Instantly on the alert, she began shouting out his name, fear escalating in her voice. “Souta! Souta! Where are you?!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kurama felt the person’s energy spike, the main emotion within it being fear. He looked quickly around, seeing if he could pinpoint the direct location of the aura. Hiei noticed the rapid assent of the energy and he also began trying to pinpoint the location of the ki.

Suddenly, a boy with a yellow shirt and brown hair ran into him, breaking his concentration again. He looked down, wanting to be angry, but at the look on the boys face, he softened. The boy was crying profusely, while looking around frantically.

“Are you alright?” Kurama asked, putting on a gentle face. “I’m sorry! Have you seen a girl in miko clothing? She’s my sister, and I’ve lost her!” the boy cried, still looking frantically around before he went to run off in another direction.

Kurama grabbed the boys arm and held him still. “Calm down. We’ll look together, okay?” he reassured the boy, giving him a soft smile. He nodded and relaxed slightly, taking closer looks at the people passing by. “What is your sister’s name and what does she look like?” he asked, almost regretting the question the moment it left his lips, as Youko’s hentai mind went into hyper drive.

“She’s wearing a white shirt and red pants--it’s a traditional miko outfit. She has her bows and arrows with her and she has dark black hair and blue eyes.” he said, still looking quickly around. Hiei frowned at Kurama’s human compassion. ‘Hiei, maybe this will turn out to be a good thing.’ Kurama said to the fire apparition, as the energy spiked even higher as it came closer to them.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Kagome’s ki went into flares as she frantically searched for Souta. “Souta! Where are you?!” she shouted again, asking the people around her if they had seen a small boy with brown hair and a yellow shirt. She began to cry the longer the seconds passed. She spurt her aura into action as she scanned the area, hoping to find the child’s aura.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hiei looked up, feeling another scanning of the area. ‘This is getting ridiculous…’ he thought, his anger flaring, but as quickly as he pinned down the energy, he calmed. It was searching for a child’s spirit. Random thoughts were filtering through his Jagan eye and he took slight pity on the person.

‘Souta! Please be alright! Please be okay! Where are you? Where are you brother?!’ the voice cried out, fear and guilt interlaced in its soft voice. He felt the girls anguish and reached out to her. She was just looking out for her sibling--it reminded him of his own sister, Yukina.

Kurama looked over to Hiei questioningly, unsure if what he heard was truly coming from his friend.

‘Girl…you’re sibling is waiting here for you…don’t worry, no harm has come to him.’ he filtered back to the girl, while her happiness radiated back to him.

Within moments she found them and her tears intensified. “Souta!” she shouted, scooping up her little brother into her arms. “Thank Kami! I don’t know what I would have done if anything would have happened to you!” she whispered into his ear. She looked up to Hiei and Kurama and smiled while mouthing out, “Thank you.” She held onto him for a few more moments before finally getting back to her feet.

“Thank you, it was you, wasn’t it, Hiei?” she asked, looking at the fire apparition with soft eyes. He looked shocked that she had picked up his name in the short time frame he had spoken with her. She felt his energy and gasped. This was the demon she had felt from the Ferris Wheel, and she began to cry. Her body suddenly started to convulse, feeling the conflicting energies within the black haired demon. Her ki took over and she managed a smiled at him before surrounding him with her spirit, hugging him gently with it.

He was angry at first, because he thought that she was going to purify him, but relaxed at its soothing touch. The conflicting energies in his blood ceased fighting and gave him a calm feeling of contentment. ‘Why did you do that?’ he asked the girl, feeling at most ease than he had felt in his entire life.

‘Don’t question her actions, Hiei. She is a pure miko. She is soothing a demon’s spirit…just go with it.’ Youko said softly, his body itching to come in contact with her pure energy again. After completely calming the demon’s spirit, she released him from her embrace before doing the same to Kurama, nudging at Youko before releasing him as well.

They looked at her with surprised expressions on both their faces, their own energies being quickly affected by hers. “Thank you for helping me find my brother.” she nodded, smiling. “Souta, you want to go get some Ice cream? And then we’ll go watch the fireworks.” she squeezed his hand again, before turning back to the two demons, who had now gotten back their composure. Hiei was scowling slightly. ‘How did this girl do that to me?!’

Kurama sighed at his friend. He didn’t know when to let it go. “You guys want to come get some ice cream with us? My treat. It will be thanks for you helping me and my brother out. What do you say, Souta?” she asked him, giving him a smile. Souta nodded profusely. “Yeah!” he paused. Kagome blushed, “I’m sorry. I didn’t even properly introduce myself! My name is Higurashi Kagome. What’s yours?” she directed her question to Kurama. “Suuichi. Minamino Suuichi.” he bowed gently to her and she returned it. “So, would you like to come with us?” she asked again, immensely happy when they both nodded. Hiei’s nod was so subtle that she barely caught it, but it was there. She lead them towards the ice cream stand near the park, that way they wouldn’t have to walk that far to get to where the fireworks would be going off.

^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^

Kagome walked up first, asking for a small bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream, while Souta ordered a moose tracks cone. Kagome moaned, getting Kurama and Hiei’s attention. “Souta! So much chocolate! You’re going to be bouncing off the walls!” she shook her head, not noticing the effect of that one sound on the demons.

Kurama ordered a small bowl of Strawberry, and Hiei kind of looked indifferent. Kagome sent out a line to him, asking him softly, ‘Have you ever had ice cream before?’

He didn’t reply, but anger came back through their link. ‘I’ll take that as a ‘no’. Well, vanilla is always a good choice, I’ll get you a small bowl. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to eat it.’ she gave him a reassuring squeeze through their link, making him freeze again with the satin touch. His anger radiated at this impudent girl. ‘That girl is trying so hard to be friendly with me--the Forbidden Child! What is her ulterior motive? She’s a miko! I’m a demon! What is she up to?’ he cursed loudly, getting Kurama’s attention. ‘He’s not letting it go, Youko…’ Kurama sighed to his spirit friend. ‘I see that, Red. No matter, leaves her more to be friends with me!’ he grinned as more mental images were conjured up, much to Kurama’s annoyance. ‘You know, you can really stop that anytime!’ he said with sarcasm.

Kagome smiled as she paid and handed them all their ice cream. They walked slowly to the park, just enjoying each others presence as Souta dashed off to the playground. Kagome made herself comfortable under a tree, enjoying the trees shade as she slowly devoured her ice cream.

Hiei and Kurama remained silent, unsure of what question to ask first, Kagome sighed softly. “My name is Kagome Higurashi. I live at Sunset Shrine just over there. I’m guardian to a jewel called the Shikon no Tama.” she said, unsure of why she was sharing such vital information with the two demons near her.

They looked at her quickly, both recognizing the name Shikon no Tama. “I see. Do you know if you are in any relation to a miko named Kikyou?” Kurama asked, at Youko’s request.

Kagome looked up quickly at him, shock on her face. “You know Kikyou?” she looked at him deeply a moment before she looked down at her hands, tears falling for not the first time today.

“I’m her reincarnation. I knew her for awhile, before I was forced back here.” she said, the tears rolling softly down her face.

Kurama and Hiei flinched at her tears. The sadness that infused in her aura choked it around them to the point of not being able to breath. They looked to her, sending out their own auras. Kurama surrounded the girl with his demon energy, hoping that she wouldn’t purify him. She smiled at his comforting touch, before leaning back into the tree. She looked up into the sky and sighed, quickly wiping her tears away. There was much more to her story than she was telling, but neither demon was the type to poke and prod at someone.

They listened to silence before Kurama’s communicator went off. He opened it and Kagome looked at it with curiosity. “Botan here. Good to see you, Kurama. Koenma needs to speak with you, It’s quite urgent. I‘ll be there in a flash to open a portal for you.” the girls voice called out, getting Hiei’s slight attention as well as Kagome’s. “Alright, Botan. See you in a bit.” he replied, getting to his feet. Kagome stood, too, wiping the dirt from her outfit. Botan was as good as her word and was there in a flash. “Hello, boys!” she said with a chipper smile. She looked to Kagome and nodded. Kagome nodded back, and Botan then opened a portal. They went to step through, but Kagome’s voice called out to them.

“Wait.” she said, her tears attempting to re spring themselves on her. They turned to face her and words came out soft, and hesitantly.

“Will I ever see you guys again?“ she asked, her body shaking slightly as she waited for their reply.

Kurama smiled at her. Youko wouldn’t allow him not to see the miko girl again. Hiei quickly sent his spirit to the girl. Her loneliness wrapped around her aura, tugging familiarly at him. She took his small gesture of comfort and finally looked up.

“It’s a promise.” Kurama voiced, giving her a smile. She smiled back, surrounding them with her own spirit, and they had to hold themselves in check. The happiness and purity radiating from her spirit was sending their own energies into a frenzy. In Kurama, it was Youko that was making their energy flare, and in Hiei, it was the fact that his dragon was wanting to get closer to this miko girl and her pure ki, as well as the Jagan. Instantly, his Jagan set up permanent ties to the girls mind, confusing him. He shook it off, before putting back on his normal scowl. He jumped through the portal, and with one last smile, Kurama followed, leaving Kagome by herself.

She smiled, recalling Midoriko’s words:

“You will not be alone for very much longer…”

Kagome’s spirit rose high into the sky, along with a cascade of fireworks.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“This is Kagome Higurashi. She’s 19 years old and lives here, “ Koenma pointed to a spot on a map of Japan, “…at Sunset Shrine. Your next mission will be to protect her. Somehow, information was leaked to the Makai and the son of an old enemy of hers wants to exact revenge. We cannot allow that to happen. If this jewel falls into the wrong hands, the consequences could be devastating to all the realms.”
“Stupid toddler! How did information get leaked out? I thought you had shaped up security since the whole Artifacts of Darkness thing!” Yusuke shouted, anger rising in him.
“I don’t know, Yusuke, but trust me, we are looking into it. That’s not the problem right now though. The girl has immense spiritual power and normally, a miko wouldn’t take kindly to demons. In this case, the girl is much different from your everyday miko. A month ago she came back to this era and since hasn’t returned to the past.” he informed them, making them all jump up with surprise.
“The past?! You mean she could travel through time?!” Yusuke shouted, his temper getting the better of him.
Kurama and Hiei nodded to one another, her story now making more sense.
“That’s right, Yusuke, and I would ask you to refrain from interrupting me again.” he said, annoyance in his voice. “She ended up traveling approximately 500 years into the past by mistake through an old well that resides on the Shrine grounds. While there, she ended up shattering the Jewel of Four Souls, also called the Shikon no Tama, into many small shards. The moment that happened, she began to work with an inu hanyou named Inuyasha, a demon exterminator named Sango, a monk named Miroku, a kit named Shippou, and a fire cat named Kirara to reclaim all the shards that had scattered all over Japan. During that time, a hanyou named Naraku made himself known and began to collect the shards of the jewel for his own evil gain. Kagome and her friends ended up destroying the hanyou, but not before his mistress gave birth to a male child.” he informed them, basically giving them all the information that they had on file. Needless to say, the file was quite incomplete.
“That’s all the information you have? Where is the demon child now?” Kurama asked, confusion in his voice. ‘Does Kagome know about this?’ he questioned Youko, knowing he wouldn’t have an answer, but inadvertently voicing his concerns. ’Don’t know, Red. But I won’t let anything happen to that girl. I’d give my life for her.’ his serious voice caught Hiei’s attention. Hiei looked to Koenma and glared when he didn’t answer the Fox’s question.
His voice ground out menacingly when he asked again, “Where is the demon child now?”
Koenma gulped. They were going to tear him apart. “At this time we are unsure. We know he’s still in the Makai, but that foolish display of power from her today may have alerted him to her presence.”
“What foolish display…Yusuke? Was that what we felt today?” Kuwabara interrupted, a puzzled expression on his face.
Yusuke’s anger expanded. “STUPID GIRL!! Is that why we have to go play security!?” he shouted, his already sour mood taking an ever sourer turn.
Two growls erupted from the back of the room, making Kuwabara, Yusuke, and Koenma all jump.
Hiei allowed a smirk to appear on his face. ’So the Youko is interested too.’
‘Damn straight, Hiei. She’s got the most unusual power I’ve ever felt. And that damn detective bashing her will not be tolerated by the likes of us.’ he nodded firmly, his power expanding slightly, making Kurama pull a tighter reign on the kitsune spirit. ’Calm down, Youko. We’ll get him back later, but for now, pay attention to what Koenma’s telling us. Maybe he’ll have some new information for us, like maybe a name?’ he said, concern and seriousness in his voice.
‘Alright, Red. I’ll behave.’ he sulked quietly, making Kurama stifle a laugh. ’Sometimes he’s just like a child…’
‘I heard that!!’
“If you two will please focus!!” Koenma shouted, his patience running thin.
Everyone snapped forward at his shout. “Do you have a name for us, Lord Koenma?” Kurama asked, attempting to smooth over any feathers they had ruffled while ignoring the child like ruler. It worked well.
“That’s the problem, Kurama. Since the child went straight from Ningenkai to the Makai, no one has any clue of his name, just that he’s living in the Makai realm and that he’s wanting revenge on the miko who killed his parents.” Koenma sighed.
“Any idea how powerful he is?” Kuwabara asked, shocking everyone with his good question.
“Not a clue, Kuwabara. He has some sort of power absorption ability that allows him to ingest other demons and take their powers to make them his own. He also has the ability to control wind, which his mother so fondly added to his reputuar.” he said with distain.
Kurama and Hiei nodded at the same time. They had all the information they were going to get.
“You should be careful anyway, Kurama and Hiei. She has excellent control of her powers and wouldn’t hesitate to use them if she felt she was in danger. Maybe you should let Yusuke and Kuwabara introduce you first.” he said worriedly.
“Don’t concern yourself with us.” Hiei said coldly. “We have everything under control.”
Kurama nodded. “The girl is not scared of us, nor will she be. Yusuke though, I’m having my doubts.” he had to add, getting the detective back for his comment earlier.
Yusuke glared at the red headed demon, clenching his teeth. Kurama walked slowly up to him before whispering in his ear, “Don’t call her ‘stupid’ ever again, or I’ll do more than insult you…” Youko’s voice came out, making Yusuke’s skin crawl. ‘Oh he is so going to pay for this later.’ he growled mentally, before Koenma shouted again, “ENOUGH!!”
“Botan, get them a portal and let them inform the girl of the situation. She is going to be temporarily relocated to Genkai’s shrine until we can get through this. Everyone’s dismissed.” he said, sitting down and holding his head, which was throbbing angrily at him.
It wasn’t everyday that the demon’s looked forward to their missions. This was one of the rare occasions where they didn’t mind being in the company of a human.
A/N: =) Yah! Another one! I heart my story! :]
A/N: Ryukotsusei--WOW! What an honor! I’m tickled pink that you like my story! You are the master of de’ Inu Yu Yu crossover that you are! =) As you can see, they are now introduced, but how their relationship progresses will be another thing to see. Another thing is that I have yet to bring in a perspective of Seiichi, which will most likely take place next chapter. I have yet to get a good handle on his character. The way I write is more of impulse with ideas, and once I finish ideas then I mould them around a potential characteristic. On a lighter note--Sayuri chan likes lemons as well, and will have much fun writing those later on. =)
Animeluva: Arigatou for your interest! Here’s one update of I’m sure many. I have yet to pin down the number of chapters this will be.
A/N #3: Next Lesson: Friends are Never-ending…Didn’t you know that?
