Destiny For A Reason

Prelude

'I know what I should do.' Kagome hugged the jewel close to her chest. She sat along Kaede as Inuyasha's wounds were being tended to. Just yesterday Naraku had been destroyed with the help of all her friends. Even those that couldn't be considered a friend, namely Sesshomaru. They had come across a trap laid by the hanyou, he had been waiting on the outskirts of the battlefield. The two brothers overcame thier differences just long enough to defeat the creation known as, Mouryoumaru, the demon that was the resting place of Naraku's heart.

Kagome sighed as she replayed the battle in her mind. A hard shell had covered his body making it almost impossible to destroy him. Things weren't going to well until She showed up. The one woman she could never compete with. The armor had become cracked and Kikyo had fired into it split making it wide enough for Inuyasha to slice out the part containing the jewel fragment. After that the two were able to get to the baby resting inside. Sensing that his heart was in danger Naraku joined the battle believing he could stil win. Even Kouga had done his part, keeping the hanyou occupied so that the dead preistess could use all her power to purify his heart. But she, Kagome, had been powerless to help, she'd stood back from the sideline with Shippo. As his body was consumed in a white light, the sacred jewel fell to the ground. Everyone stood, not sure to believe that it was finally over. Miroku had quickly removed his prayer beads, "It's gone. My curse has been lifted."

Kikyo was the first to move, picking up the jewel. She walked over to Kagome reaching out her hand. " I was unable to destroy his soul but he is dead. Take the jewel, complete it and make sure it is removed from this world." Kouga even handed over his two without much of a fuss, the one from Mouryoumaru was collected of the forest floor. Which only left the one imbedded in the shoulder of Kohaku, sparing the boy's life. The child, Rin, begged her lord to save the boy she considered a friend. With that the Shikon was once again completed, purified, and in Kagome's hand.

Her journey was over and it was time for her to say goodbye to the one man she would always love. It would be hard but what choice did she have? All this time together but deep down she had known it would come to this. They had stood beside each other, cared for each other but it wasn't enough. She couldn't compete with Kikyo, especially when it came to that special place in his heart. She had died for him, even during the last battle it had been her to help him defeat Naraku. He would never forget her, never stop loving her, and never be able to look at Kagome without seeing her. She hung her head low, 'Why? Why was I brought here? Why did I have to meet him only to have to give him up? Was I brought here to make things right? Am I suppose to undo the damage caused by Naraku?' She looked over at the man in her thoughts. He was complaining as the old miko wrapped a bandage around his upper arm, which had been wounded in the battle. Ideas crossed her mind on how she could make everything right.

'No matter what I want him to be happy. They never got a chance. I can give them that chance. I will give them their life together, its all I can do. Inuyasha will have to stay a half-demon but he's perfect just as he is. Yes, thats what I will do.' Kagome took one last look at the hanyou she loved with all her heart and made her wish. "Be happy, Inuyasha." Inuyasha turned in time to see her disappear in a bright light.

"KAGOME!"
