Chapter 2
Sango, Miroku with Shippou on his shoulder, walked over to sit beside Inuyasha and Kagome.
“Are you OK Kagome?” Asked Sango.
“You really had us scared, Kagome-sama.” Said Miroku.
She pulled away from Inuyasha, and looked at her friends. She gave them a watery smile and nodded.
Shippou jumped from Miroku’s shoulder to sit on Kagome’s lap.
“Hai. I was just so scared. I’m sorry I worried you all so much.” She bowed her head.
“It’s OK, Kagome, we’re all here now.” Inuyasha tried to reassure her. She nodded.
*Somewhere in the forest...
Kikyo wandered through the forest. She walked along a running steam, and her soul stealers were gliding around her, casting an eerie glow even in the bright afternoon sun. She did not seem to sense the pair of eyes following her every move.
The figure jumped from tree to tree following the miko. Kikyo was startled when a figure clad in a white monkey suite dropped in front of her.
“Well, hello, Kikyo. It’s been a while hasn’t it?”
“What do you want?” said Kikyo, slightly annoyed.
“I have a proposal for you.”
“I don’t have time for this Naraku. I already gave you the part of the jewel I stole from Kagome. Now, please, leave me alone.”
“But what if I could guarantee you the rest of your soul? I only wish to help you reacquire something you…lost.”
“And how do you suppose that? Inuyasha would die before he would let something happen to one of his friends…especially the miko.”
“You underestimate me priestess. There are ways to separate Inuyasha from his precious shard detector.”
“How?”
“Ahh…I’m glad you asked. Apparently, Kagome is not from this world…correct?”
“So I’m told.”
“Fascinating, ne?”
“Very.”
“And Inuyasha and Kagome are the only ones who can travel through the well?”
“As far as I know.”
“Well, when she returns from her world, I will be waiting for her at the well.”
“Yes, but she will know that it is you…”
“Not if I am disguised as someone she trusts.” Naraku smirked evily.
“Yes, but how will you distract Inuyasha?”
“That I will leave to you.”
“OK, but he always waits by the well when Kagome is gone.”
Naraku’s grin grew even more vicious. “It seems that I have underestimated the strength of their bond.” Naraku seemed to ponder this new revelation for a moment, and then returned his attention to Kikyo. Kikyo huffed, and glared a Naraku.
“Come now, Kikyo, are you jealous of this Kagome? Does it disturb you to know that Inuyasha is moving on without you?” Naraku circled Kikyo, stopping in front of her; he reached his hand up to caress her smooth, cold cheek. “Or is it that fact that it is your reincarnation?”
Kikyo closed her eyes and turned her head. “Why do you insist on torturing me?” She looked back at Naraku, and he could see tears forming in her eyes. He knew then just how hard this was going to be for her, and hated Inuyasha even more. Even though she despised Inuyasha, she could not ignore the feelings she still had for him.
“I want MY soul back! And I want revenge for what Inuyasha did to me!”
Naraku looked puzzled. His head was cocked to the side. “Even though you know the truth about what happened that day…that I am responsible for what happened fifty years ago…you still blame Inuyasha?
Kikyo moved out of Naraku’s grasp. “I can’t forgive him.”She watched her soul stealers gliding through the air. She took a deep breath and sighed. “I will distract Inuyasha so you can kidnap Kagome.”
“Excellent! Once she returns home, we will find out when she will be returning to her friends, and I will send Kagura to fetch you.”
Kikyo nodded. Naraku took to the trees. Kikyo walked along the stream. She thought she would be happy about getting the rest of her soul back, but she knew there would be serious repercussions if their plan failed. She knew if anything happened to her reincarnation, and Inuyasha lived…there would be hell to pay.
