"Koishii..." Sesshomaru whispered brokenly, a crimson tear sliding down his porcelain cheek.
Five-hundred years in the future Kagome awoke and turned off her alarm, shaking the weird dream of a strange, silver-haired prince from her mind as she rose and prepared for work.
"˜He seems so familiar...' Kagome wondered.

Chapter 2
The Painful Truth
Featuring "Violence" by Blink 182
The witch cackled tackily as Jaken poked at the dirt with his staff. Violet eyes stared coldly into the toad's back. She never saw the cruel smile dance across Jaken's beak-like lips before he turned to face the flashing orbs.
"Payment is due, toad." The laughter danced off the cave walls.
"Of course...your payment shall be given. Approach and take this staff with my gratitude!" Jaken squawked as he raised the staff in front of him, a dark light pulsing in his eyes.
"So eager to be rid of the trinket, toad? Why?"
"It is worth the deed you have taken upon yourself! Take the staff and let us be done with this!" Jaken yelled, his anger flaring around him. A sigh echoed from the cave as the woman slinked from the darkness, her eyes narrowing slightly at the bright moonlight.
"Have faith in knowing that the Western Lady will not seek out your lord. She has been sent back to where she came from along with the others...just as you wished. The Hellhound demoness's memories, along with her companions, have been wiped clean of the Western Lord's existence and have been altered to see that nothing seems misplaced." The old woman tilted her head to the side, studying the small demon before her.
"You sent away the whore's companions and Inuyasha as well?!" Jaken chirped in delight. A sudden thought darkened his mood. "What of my Lord's memories?"
"When he awakes they will be altered as well." Her eyes flashed again as she raised an aged hand to take the staff.
"I am impressed, Zaraka. You have done well." Jaken murmured in a strange, cold tone as Zakara reached for the staff in his hands. The cruel smile crossed his lips again as he brought the staff above his head. "But did you really think I would let you take this staff, let alone live when you are the only other being to know such actions have been taken?! Fool!" His eyes widen as the staff glowed with new life, the jaws opening in a silent scream.
"Treachery! You will pay for your insolence, JAKEN!" Zakara screeched as her hands rose to guard her face. Her weathered face contorting into a mask of rage and hate as the flames engulfed her.
"Try as you might, witch! I have picked up a few tricks while hiding from that human brat and useless orphan!" The toad cackled as a piercing scream echoed around them; Zakara stumbled blindly back into her cave as the smell of burning flesh coated the air. With a final scream, she fell silent. Jaken laughed to himself before turning and making his way down the mountain and towards the castle.
Within the cold reaches of Zakara's cave, a charred body of an old woman lay on the damp, earth floor. A pitiful groan rising from her throat as her flesh cracked and bled with each withering breath. Thoughts of revenge forced her to ignore the screaming agony of her body as she held a small, orb to her chest. The ball began to glow an eerie gold light as she whispered to it. Her broken voice barely registering in her own ears.
"The Lord and Ladyship of the West is no concern of mine..." Blood and bile rose in her throat as she continued. "I call to the spirits once more and beg of them to help me take my revenge!" Zakara gasped in a panic, pain blinding her as she fought for the words. "Spare the Western Lord's memories and let the Southern Lord and Lady remain to help him until he is able to find his lady once again." Her eyes blurred as a new wave of pain took her. The demoness and her allies were already taken from this plain of time, thus taken from her reach. Hopefully by sparing the Taiyoukai sanity, the spell could be rectified. Zakara smiled despite her undeniable pain.
"What awaits you, Jaken, is a fate far worse than death..." With a final gasp for air, the witch's eyes closed in eternal sleep.
*At the Western Castle*
Jaken slipped into the castle and immediately made his way for his master's chambers, eager to see the results of his self-proclaimed benevolence. He slowly opened the door to the room, slightly jumping as sense of bitter cold hit him.
"Lord Sesshomaru? Are you here?" Jaken whimpered, deeply troubled by the overwhelming sense of cold and hate.
"I can smell it on you..." The Western Lord's voice held no sign that emotion had ever existed within his being. Jaken squeaked as icy, amber eyes bore into him from a dark corner of the room. "The scent of deceit and betrayal lingers on you like the very essence of death." Cruel amusement danced in the gold orbs briefly before vanishing completely.
"I-I don't understand, my Lord!" Jaken sputtered as confusion reined chaos in his shaken mind. He eeped as the eyes disappeared; Sesshomaru's disembodied voice called out behind him. The confused and terrified demon whirled around and held the staff to him as if it were his only tie to the realm of the living.
"What have you done, Jaken?" The silky voice held a deadly sing-song rhythm. "Rest assured that if my questions are not answered, I will gladly add another two-hundred years of torture to your miserable existence." The regal form of Sesshomaru emerged from the dark, Kagome's blue robe clenched in one hand. Jaken's eyes widened further as realization dawned on him. "˜The witch tricked me! He remembers!'
"My Lord! Everything I did was for your best interests! I would never do anything to hurt you!" His pants grew shorter as Sesshomaru began to circle him, gold eyes slowly bleeding red. "Surely you see how those humans, brats, and the whore were slowly bringing about your demis-..." A blinding pain rose behind Jaken's eyes. Looking around in a wild panic, he realized he had been thrown into Kagome's vanity mirror. Glass shards pierced his arms and back as he groaned and tried to stand.
"SILENCE!!!" The Taiyoukai roared as the walls shook and groaned in his rage. Jaken felt his heart stop as the panicked cries of the servants echoed against the hall walls. "You took her from me. YOU TOOK THEM FROM ME!!!" Sesshomaru grabbed the bleeding toad and brought him to his eye-level. "WHERE ARE THEY!?!?"
"She was sent back! Sent back to where she came from!" The toad wheezed between pained breaths. Jaken slowly opened a swollen eye to search his master's expression; what he saw brought no comfort. Sesshomaru now held a smile...a genuine smile. The expression twisted into the chilling, cruel smile once Sesshomaru noticed his watchful gaze.
"I will wait for her...five-hundred years is nothing to me." Sesshomaru laughed coldly as Jaken flinched in his grasp. "Especially when I can spend them torturing you in ways that would sicken the late Naraku." Calling a guard to him, Sesshomaru had Jaken sent to the dungeon. But not before Jaken called out in an almost victorious tone.
"You may find her, but she will not remember you!" Jaken screamed, hoping the information would buy him some salvation. He sighed as Sesshomaru halted the guard.
"Speak." Sesshomaru bellowed.
"Her memories of you and this place are gone! The world has been molded and altered to give the illusion that the sacred jewel never existed. Inuyasha, Rin, Shippo, and the others are with her as well. Their memories have been rewritten as well! As far they know, the miko was always a demon and your half-brother was always a human and an only child." Jaken blurted out all he knew, praying it would spare him his due punishment. "They will not know you!" Sesshomaru's silence sent spikes of ice through his blood.
"Make sure he is chained tightly and no light, food, or water is available to him." Sesshomaru growled out, and snatched away the Staff of Two Heads from the bound demon. "I will see you soon, Jaken." Sesshomaru turned on his heel and exited the room, ignoring Jaken's pleas for mercy as he was dragged down the vacant halls and into darkness.
Silver hair waved as he glided into the library, barely keeping the bitter taste of grief and hate from swallowing him whole. Soon he would find her again and he would make her remember him. His children and mate would be restored to him.
"I will find you, koi. I swear on our unborn child I will." Sesshomaru whispered, glancing down at the silk robe in his had. "Wait for me..."
*Kagome's time*
A growl of annoyance rose from Kagome's throat as she dug through the enormous, dark closet. Swearing lightly as a stiletto heel scratched the one of the palms of her searching hands. "˜Damn!' She wrestled through the pile of clothes a bit longer before finally crying out in victory. Grinning in triumph, Kagome raised the black, silk, high-top converses above her head. She stood, straightening out her pinstripe, flared dress pants and black, satin vest top. A favorite song of hers bounced around in the back of her mind as she busied herself with her long hair, braiding it tightly.
Six bottles went down the drain
One hours a waste of time
I.d ask if you feel the same
Still pushing that chance to try
"I may have to dress somewhat professionally to run my business, but I refuse to wear those damn heels to work!" The demoness growled softly to herself as she laced up the shoes and left the bedroom.
"Mama!" Shippo yipped as he sat at the breakfast bar of the large kitchen.
Your breath in this cool room chill
Long hair that blows side to side
You speak and the time stands still
And each time you walk right on by

"I'm coming, honey! Make sure your sister is ready!" Kagome yelled from the hallway as she approached the kitchen.
After Shippo and Rin's parents had perished in the plane crash, it had been up to her to raise them. Kagome was more than happy to do it. Their parents had been good friends of the family and she had been worried about where they would be sent to. Stepping up to the plate, the demoness gladly adopted the pair. Two years had already passed and when they had asked to call her "mama", she had been more than happy to allow it.

"I'm ready...I couldn't find my other sandal, mama!" Rin chirped as she grabbed her yellow, daisy backpack and ran for the door. Shippo jumped from the breakfast bar with his green, messenger bag in tow. A day never went by that Kagome didn't thank the gods that Kikyo and Sango had found the concealment spell to adjust her and Shippo's tell-tale features.
One drink and the pain goes down
Soft shells are by her feet
Lay softer you slowly drown
Lay still as you fall asleep
Hoping into the black Lexus, the chatty group sped off into the distance like any other day. The kids waved goodbye and ran off to join their friends in front of the school as Kagome headed toward the office. Handing her keys to the valet, she entered the gigantic building a full speed.

The daze of her dream still clung to her as the elevator doors opened. Kagome entered the box and pressed her floor number, ignoring the other occupants as she thought back to the prince who haunted her. The demoness was so lost in her own thoughts that she never acknowledged the amber eyes that stared after her in longing as the elevator doors closed.
