Chapter Two
Safely tucked in his arms, Sesshomaru carried Kagome to safety. He wanted to bring her to his home in the Western Lands, but he could feel the cold drops of rain begin to fall, and he knew with her injuries she would be unable to endure the distance. As the minutes passed, more blood seeped slowly from her wounds, more life seeped from her fragile body. The thought caused him to pull her to his chest more fervently. He could feel each breath she took, but they were frightenly shallow.
Searching the area he found a small cave, concealed by the branches of a dense forest. It would have to do.
Sensing no danger, he rested the young miko on the cold surface of the ground, taking care not to bring more damage to her already torn body. He carefully reached behind him, removing his outer robe, and wrapped it around her body in an attempt to make her more comfortable. Even unconscious, the pain of being touched caused Kagome to softly cry out.
At her cry, he stopped abruptly, wondering to himself what was driving him to try to safe the life of the young woman -- his brother's woman. He knew he had grown to respect the miko. She had a strength about her that few humans possessed. But she did not always think before she acted, following the commands her heart more than anything else, and often putting her life in danger. But always, his brother was there at her side, ready to take a blow for her, cursing her for blindly stepping into danger with one breath and then crying her name with such passionate fear of losing her with his next. What had stopped Inuyasha from helping her this time? His current absence made the situation even more troublesome. Sesshomaru and his brother were never close, but they shared half of the same blood, and that created a bond between the two, whether they wanted to admit it or not.
Absent-mindedly, he trailed a finger down Kagome's side as he focused his thoughts back on her injuries. Blood was still seeping from the large, jagged-edged wound in her chest, staining the shreds of her blouse a deep blackish red. It appeared as though something had ripped the Shikon no Tama straight from its hiding place within her. A sense of urgency swelled up from deep inside him -- a stronger more instinctual voice from the back of his mind. It mattered not why he was helping her; only that something deep inside him compelled him to watch over her, to treat her gently, as though she belonged to him and not his brother.
Without clear thought, he nuzzled at the wound near her neck, letting the edge of his tongue trail down the gash that ran from her neck to her shoulder. The salty sweetness thrilled his senses, as he gingerly lapped at the blood. With each sweet droplet he was urged onward, the voice from within him pushing.
*pure thick sweetness*
*sip taste feel*
*touch enjoy*
Kagome let out another cry, more pain in her voice. He tried to block out her cries. He could feel the desire pooling inside him. With each stroke of his tongue, he felt himself need her more. But at each stroke she became more unsettled, more upset.
"...kami...no...," barely a whisper, but filled with pain.
Showing great restraint, Sesshomaru forced himself back to reality, back in control. She would need another kind of help. In this condition, she could not tolerate his way of healing. With regret, he nestled the sleeping woman deep into his robes, and surveying the surroundings one last time, stepped out into the cold night rain.
The hard rain soaked through him quickly. With a mere glance, he erected a barrier around the cave. Confident that Kagome would remain safe until he returned, he rose effortlessly into the sky, moving with the speed of lightning, in search of someone who could help the miko.
Kagome lay wrapped in the warmth of his robes, no longer stirring. In her unconsiousness, she dreamed. Her mind searched back, trying to make sense of all that had happened...

Through the dark rain, tucked behind the full leaves of the trees, a pair of steel-colored eyes peered through the forest and into the cave, mindless of the barrier between. Beneath the sounds of falling beads of rain and the background of thunder, a quiet laughter could be heard, as a cold smile played on a pair of pale lips.

A/N: Thanks for the feedback everyone! I know these first couple of chapters are a little short, but I promise I've got "bigger" plans for the future. Please stick with it...I plan on updating daily (if possible!) -hatsumi
