A flash of red flew past Kagome just before the arrow hit its mark. Kagome looked shocked as Miroku and Sango ran at Kikyo. She thought to herself that this was her fight and she notched an arrow of her own. She drew back the string and took her aim at her almost twin. 'I can do this.' she reassured herself. Letting the string go her arrow flying to its target burying itself in the evil miko’s shoulder. Kikyo screamed in pain and her soul collectors carried her off.
Sango ran to Kagome “Are you hurt?”
“No, I didn’t get hit but where’s….” Her words trailed off as her gaze saw the red blur now lying on the ground. “Inuyasha! Inuyasha!” She cried out as she ran to his side.
Miroku and Sango saw their friend and followed Kagome to his side. Kagome fell down next to Inuyasha and saw the arrow that had gone in one side of his neck and out the other. She turned him over and looked deep in to his golden eyes. She felt like crying but fought the tears with every bit of will she had. Sango turned to Miroku and looked at him to see his reaction. He just shook his head at Sango showing her it did not look like he was going to be ok. Kagome held Inuyasha’s hand and just told him to hold on. ‘Look what you’ve done Kagome he tried to save you again. Your so weak.’ She thought to herself. She looked up at her friends who could tell she was ready to fall apart but would not let herself.
“Let’s get him somewhere safe.” Kagome said shakily.
Without another word Miroku and Sango placed Inuyasha on Kirara’s back. They took him deep into the forest he called his own. Placing him under the tree he had spent many a night sitting in watching over the group. It seemed so sad to see him like that just limp and weak so unlike the hanyou they all knew. Miroku and Sango left Kagome alone with Inuyasha and went for help from Kaede.
“Inuyasha can you hear me?” Kagome whispered into his ear.
He just blinked his eyes slowly in response.
“I.. I have so much I want to say. I know you hate me for what I’ve done you know the whole jewel thing and being such a pain. I am so sorry your hurt and it’s all my fault.” She finished her sentence and started to sob. “ I don’t care what you think of me but I have to say it…. I love you. I love you more than I have ever loved anyone and I promise I will never turn my back on you. I know I can’t replace Kikyo. I don’t want to. I just wanted you to love me to. Please don’t leave me Inuyasha. Not now. I need you.” She leaned in and pressed her lips to his. “Forgive me Inuyasha. I never wanted you to get hurt.”
(Sango and Miroku)
“Do you think will find her in time Miroku?” Sango asked worried.
“I’m not sure Sango. Inuyasha is strong. If the arrow hit anyone else where it hit him they would be dead already.”
“Miroku look down. There she is.” Sango was excited to find Kaede.
Kirara landed. Sango and Miroku ran to Kaede to tell her what happened and that Kagome and Inuyasha were waiting. Kaede told them to help her gather some healing herbs. They all thought how much sooner they would have been able to get back to Kagome if Kikyo had not destroyed the village.
(Kagome and Inuyasha)
“Inuyasha are you still with me?” Kagome asked filling with fear when he didn’t respond. She laid her head on his hard chest and listening to his shallow breath and weakening heartbeat. There was nothing to do but wait. The end was coming and there was nothing she could do. ‘ What a pathetic miko I am. I can’t even save someone I love.’ Tears rolled down her cheeks soaking Inuyasha’s chest. I wish I could do something. She sat up and looked at the sky. Screaming “ Please, how do I save him! I’ll do anything just let him live!” Inuyasha could hear her and wanted so badly to hold her and tell her he’d be fine. He wanted to comfort her. He wanted to tell her that she is the one he loves not Kikyo. Now he could do nothing by lie there to weak to even open his eyes. Kagome looked around sensing someone was watching them.
