Haunted
Darkness
Someone or something had grabbed her. She could feel something around her waist. Movement was felt and soon water consumed her. Her breathing came hard as the water engulfed her. Soon she felt cool air blow over her face as she came over the water. She felt movement. Someone or something was swimming. She tried openning her eyes only to be consumed by darkness.
-----------------------------
The warmth of a fire could be felt against the side. She twisted and turned freezing by the cold wind. Kagome felt something being placed over her. The heat started to warm her. She relaxed falling back to sleep.
Inuyasha smiled. He moved back over to the fire and tossed another log on. He stared at her as she slept peacefully. She tried to kill herself. Why? He had no idea. It seemed crazy. Inuyasha looked up into the sky. The stars twinkled brightly. He hated being human. It made him feel weak. Inuyasha was thankfull that he found the beach right before complete darkness. Swimming would not been easy for him if he was human.
Kagome started to stirred in her sleep. She opened her eyes and blinked as she stared up into the bluish-black sky. Rolling over, away from the fire, a tear ran down her face. She knew who saved her. Why did he save her? Why did he even care? Tears started to flow harder. She wrapped the haori tighter around her, trying to hide any sounds that might escape. No such luck. She could hear him moving. The sound of the sand could be heard. He walked around and appeared in front. The blazing fire outlined him with such kunning. His black hair shined as it moved in the breeze. Kagome could not help, but stare.
Inuyasha bent down upon one knee. He used his thumb and wiped the tears away. Kagome turned her head away only to have it lifted by Inuyasha. She tried to look away, but only came to stare at his eyes. "What were you thinking?" He asked it so gently. It almost seemed to be a whisper.
Kagome dropped her gaze to the sand below. She knew the reason she ran. She knew why she wanted to end her life. But, could she explain this to Inuyasha? Could she let him know that she cared to much about him, that she loved him, that she would not let anything hurt him? No. She simply could not let him know. Kagome sat up gently and turned away. Pushing with her hands, she rosed to her feet and walked to the edge of the beach. The cool water rolled over her feet. It felt good. Her hair danced in the breeze shining lightly by the stars and flame.
Inuyasha could not help, but stare. She was gorgeous, absolutly gorgeous. He gave a rough chuckle. With everything happen, how could he stay with her? He knew it so far down that he loved Kagome. She was the only one who excepted who he was...a hanyou. Inuyasha gave another rough laugh. With what was happening to him, could he still be called a hanyou. One second your human, next your hanyou, then finally you don't remember except that you were a demon. How could anyone except him now? How could Kagome except who he was?
Kagome stood facing out at the water, watching as the waves came in splashing against the cliffs and the retreating back out. She gave a light sigh. It felt nice to be near a beach. She hasn't been by one since...her father passed away. Her light smile disappeared in a frown. She missed her family. She missed seeing her mother cooking, her grandfather talking about his fake sutras, and her brother asking about her journeys. She sighed again. Everything has changed and now it was impossible to even go back.
Kagome looked in the direction the beach travel. She slowly walked the shoreline, walking in the direction it travelled. Inuyasha watched her cautiously. Where could she be heading. He gave a sigh as he stood up and started to follow. Kagome kept walking, but soon she gathered her speed and started to run. Inuyasha blinked with suprisment and then started to follow.
She continued to run even when the sun was starting to appear over the trees. Inuyasha was able to keep up with her a lot easier thanks to his hanyou abilities. However, he did not stop Kagome from running. She kept running, falling occasionally causing her skin to bleed, but she kept running. After a while, though, she came to a stop and dropped to her knees. Inuyasha looked around. The place was familiar. It hurt to remember such a place. The Sacred Tree, it glittered in the morning light.
Kagome looked up and wiped the tears away. She started to walk, walk away from the tree. She walked around bushes, trees. She took paths to arrive at a small hill. The tears continued to run as she ran straight to a burnt down village. She looked from place to place. The bodies were all burnt by the fire. The demon slayer laid by the monk. Both looked like they were in peice. She quickly turned away as she remember how they died. The demon cat along with the kitsune were curled together. They did not get killed. Instead, the fire and smoke had killed them. The old priestess was the same, but she was wounded and since she was pretty old, she just could not survive.
Kagome continued to walk. Tears ran down her face as she noticed mothers holding their children. The screams started to peirce her mind. She dropped down to her knees and tried to hold it back. Standing up slowly, she continued on. Laying in the center was a small chain made by white shells. She walked up to it and bent down. The chain shined in the light reflecting the light off the shells. She shook her head. Why would it be here? Standing up, she walked to a hut. This hut, they stayed at as they journey over the land looking for Naraku. Only months ago, did they find him and destroyed him. The battle was amazing, but scary at the same time. Kagome remember how Naraku used her against Inuyasha. Luckily, he was able to save her.
She sat down in a corner of the hut. Pictures, painful pictures started to form in her mind. Miroku in his corner. Sango in hers. Both glaring at each other. Miroku with his perverted thoughts. Sango trying to prevent Miroku from doing anything. Kirara sleeping near the fire with Shippo. Kaeda stirring a pot. An aching smile etched its way across Kagome's face. She curled up into a ball and let the darkness of sleep take over. She wanted to die. She wanted to be with her friends. She wanted this to be a bad dream. One that she could awake from.
Inuyasha watched her from a distance. The scene, the horrid scene. He remembered nothing of it. He knew nothing of how it started. Everyone was dead. The village, his friends, they were all dead. He walked to the hut Kagome went in. He could smell the hurt, the sorrow. She was hurting. She was hurting so badly. He walked inside noticing her curled up in a corner. That corner was her spot. Everytime they came to visit Kaeda, she would sit there. He noticed the small chain in her hand. He remembered Kagome tying the Shikon Jewel to it. Where it was or even if it existed anymore? No one knew.
Inuyasha sat at the door holding his sword against him. He watched as tears ran down Kagome's face. Neither one seemed to be an end. It was a flowing, non-stop river. She shivered from the cold and curled tighter into a ball. She moved around sobbing. He knew she hurt. Closing his eyes, he followed into the darkness and allowed sleep to take over.
------------------
Blood started to boil. Darkness started to grow. The youkai opened his eyes looking for prey. He smelled the area, but snorted in disguse. It smelled of the dead. No one was living, not even a chicken. One scent, however, did get to him. It was alive, very much alive. His crimson eyes over looked the area and came upon a young girl. She was curled up in a ball and seemed to be fast asleep. He cracked his nuckles ready to defeat his prey. He inched over, raising his claws to strick, but stopped. Something about this girl. Something about her, made him stop.
Kagome rolled over and opened her eyes. She backed up in fear. His eyes were no longer a golden yellow, but a crimson red. He had his hand raised, ready to strick down his prey. Her heart raced. Was Inuyasha going to kill her? She moved around slowly. Standing up, she ran.
Inuyasha followed out and watched her. She ran to the edge of the village and stopped. She noticed him standing, watching her. Kagome glanced around coming across a rusted dagger. She pulled it out and looked at it's edges. She finally realized it. The only way to save her misery, to let herself move on, she had to kill Inuyasha. She placed the dagger at her side and started to walk towards him. He stood there flexing his claws. She hated doing this, but this was the only way. She would follow. There is no regret in it. Living in her era would be impossible knowing that she had the blood of the one she loved covering her.
Kagome stopped only inches away from him. He growled at her flexing his claws again. Once more, he could not kill her. Something was preventing him. He glanced down at her side and noticed the dagger. He raised his claws ready to defend, only to lower them. Her eyes showed sympathy. She wanted to end the pain. End the pain both had. No. He did not want to die. He wanted to keep fighting. He wanted to kill his prey. He raised his claws again.
Kagome noticed this and knew that it would not be easy. She walked till she was standing right in front. She pulled the dagger up and placed it at his heart. One push, that was all she had to do. Kagome gave a push only to have her wrist grabbed. Claws were dragging into her skin forming small ripples of blood. She cried out trying to force Inuyasha to let go. He did not loosen his grip.
Tetsusaiga started to pulsate. He slowly reached for it. His eyes started to lighten. His head started to clear. He looked down and saw Kagome crying. He noticed her wrist covered in blood by his own hands. He felt the peirce even though it had not peirce his skin yet. Inuyasha stumbled backwards causing Kagome to follow. The dagger was held up. Kagome pushed away shaking her head. She wanted to end it. She turned the dagger to her heart. She raised it ready to plung. Inuyasha knocked it out of her hands. She collapsed on his chest crying. He held her close trying to whisper conforting words. Once again, though, he did not know how this all lead up. He did not remember anything from the time he fell asleep that morning.
Inuyasha looked up into the clear sky. What was going on? Why was he not remembering parts? So many questions were running through his mind. It was driving him crazy. He wanted answer and no one seemed to be able to answer them. He glanced down at Kagome. She was sound asleep. He picked up her wrist and noticed that the bleeding had not stopped. He pulled at his shirt, wripping it. Gently, he wrapped her wrist before holding her tight against him.
------------------
The journey to find Naraku was not going to well. Each village, they stopped at had seen him. Each village was destroyed with countless victoms. "Damn it. Another village." cursed Inuyasha. He slid down against a tree. He punched the trunk with his fist. The branches shaked drifting leaves into the wind. He wanted Naraku dead. Too much suffering was happening because of that youkai.
Kagome gave a light sigh as she watched the hanyou. She could sense his anger, his rage. She gave another sigh. Every time they came up to a village, Naraku was gone leaving disaster behind. Everyone was confused on why he was running. The only jewel shards that were left, were in Kagome's protection.
Another log was tossed onto the fire shaking Kagome's thoughts from her head. Miroku appeared sitting against a rock. "The next village is half a day away." Inuyasha looked up interested on the news. "We need to stop Naraku there."
"Then lets get moving." said Inuyasha. He stood up and placed his sword at his side. Everyone looked at him surpised on his suggestion for the evening.
"Calm down, Inuyasha. The sun is setting. We will not be able to battle at night. Plus, everyone needs some sleep and that includes you." Kagome yawned agreeing to what Miroku was saying.
Inuyasha walked over to where Kagome was sitting. "Feh. I will carrying Kagome to the village." He bent down and picked her up. She yelled "sit" and both came crashing down. He picked himself up and tunred towards the girl. Her cheeks were read with embarressment. "What was that for?"
Kagome turned her face away. "You scared me." She whispered it softly allowing only him to hear. He gave a light "feh" before sitting down beside her. Kagome notice that he really wanted to save the village. He wanted to stop Naraku. She swallowed hard and stood up. She walked over to her bag and bent down to pick it up only to release a large yawn.
"Feh. Get on. You can sleep on my back." Inuyasha mentioned as he tossed her bag to Miroku. Bending down, he let Kagome climb on. She instantly fell asleep as he rose up. Miroku and Sango jumped on Kirara and started to follow
-----
The village was still the same as they arrived. Men were working in their fields. Children were running, playing, having fun. Women were working, making bread, carrying water. "No sign of Naraku." yawned Miroku. Inuyasha gave a light "feh" as headed to a tree with shade below.
Kagome was still asleep when he sat her down. He gently rested her against the base of the tree when he sensed it. Inuyasha looked around and noticed it. The dark aura was approaching. He slid his hand to his sword, gripping the handle tightly. Kagome sat up mentioning the presence of the jewel.
The sun became black as teh aura covered the area. Fire started to burn upon piles of hay. A rough laugh came and Naraku soon appeared. He gave a large smile as he noticed the hanyou and the miko. Naraku pointed his arm out. Tons and tons of youkai appeared flying towards them.
Inuyasha ran shredding the youkai with his claws. Miroku used his wind tunnel to suck some in, but soon stopped because of the poisonous bees. He was continuing on the fight with his staff and sutras. Sango joined in with her weapon while Kagome used her bow and arrows.
Naraku just laughed. The youkais kept coming. There seemed to be no end. A blue light came flying by. Naraku hissed as he noticed the young miko. He yelled for his youkai to kill her. Inuyasha prevented it from happening by using his Wind Scar to kill the youkais. Naraku just growled.
Another set of youkais went flying by. Again, Inuyasah destroyed them with his claws along with some using his sword. Naraku smiled. He slowly moved. Reaching out, he grabbed Kagome. She screamed preventing everyone to stop. "Make any sudden movements and the miko dies."
Kagome had tears running down her face. Her heart was thumping. "Let her go. Your battle is with me." yelled Inuyasha. Naraku smiled and then started to laugh. Inuyasha raised his sword. The Wind Scar ripped across the ground. Naraku eyes went wide. He dropped the girl to move out of the way. Inuyasha jumped quickly, grabbing her out of the way. The Wind Scar continued and made contact. Naraku was blasted into many peices. Kagome picked up her bow and turned quickly. Locking an arrow in place, she let it go. The blue light surrounded it and pierced Naraku. Naraku screamed and disappeared into nothing.
Kagome noticed it shining in the air as the sun started to brighten the area. It was falling. Kagome ran. She jumped catching the object within her hand. Inuyasha ran up to see what she had. She opened her palm revealing the full Shikon Jewel.
