Can’t Stop the Rain From Falling
Snow Fall
“Sango-chan? What’s wrong?” she asked as she quickly got dressed and looked up at her friend.
“Houshi-sama! That’s what’s wrong!” yelled Sango in frustration as she paced back and forth.
“What’d he do this time Sango-chan?” asked Kagome while she brushed out her long wet hair though she was a bit concerned.
“He!-…he…He was kind of acting nice and sweet to me and he kissed my hand after I hurt it…” muttered Sango as she started to blush again, calming down enough to realize her foolery.
“…*gasp* Aww! That sounds so sweet and I totally knew that he really does like you!” said Kagome happily while she smiled warmly.
“But…But I don’t like him! He’s such a perverted womanizer!” said Sango in retaliation.
Who could ever like such a perverted, doomed to death, womanizing, lecherous…handsome, charming, creative and caring monk?
“Sango and Miroku sitting in a tree, K I S S I N G! First comes love, then comes marriage then comes a baby in a- you don’t like the song do you?” said Kagome watching her friend blush profusely. Sango shook her head with rigor as she sunk down to the ground and pulled her knees up to her chest so that she could hold them.
“Kagome…What should I do?” she whimpered as she stared at her knees.
“Well…he has an incurable case of ‘ask all the pretty girls to bare my child’ but if you can keep his attention off of them and on you he might be cured and show his true feelings…” said Kagome.
“You really think he has such feeling for me Kagome?” Sango mused as she looked up at Kagome hopefully.
Kagome nodded.
“He just doesn’t want to hurt you because of his curse. He’s simply afraid of hurting others that he’s close to because he cares so much, that’s all.” said Kagome as she sat down next to Sango in hopes of cheering her up and on.
“But I can tell he’s really lonely inside…almost empty in a way.” said Kagome sounding a little sad.
“Lonely? How do you know this?” asked Sango looking concerned.
“By the way he flirts especially with you and the way he stares at the sky sometimes. You can almost feel him searching for some one to share his pains and joys with…It’s kind of sad that someone so caring is so alone…” said Kagome.
Sango thought about this for a long moment. Now that she thought about it she had known all along…
“Kagome, how do I get his attention?” asked Sango and Kagome smiled at her…
“Got any three’s Miroku?” asked Inu-Yasha, sounding slightly bored.
“Nope, Gold Fish.” Answered Miroku turning too little Shippo who kept dropping his cards because his hands were so small.
“Shippo, do you have a nine?” he asked after seeing the card when Shippo had thought he picked it up in time.
“Darn it! Wow Miroku, you’re really good at this game!” said Shippo as he handed over the card and spilled the rest again.
Inu-Yasha started sniffing at the air…something seemed a little out of place.
“What is it Inu-Yasha?” asked Miroku noticing the half-breeds behavior.
“I smell...flowers?” said Inu-Yasha a little confused.
“Flowers? At this time of year? Is your nose alright Inu-Yasha because I haven’t seem any flowers in months…It is about to snow after all.” Said Miroku looking around as Shippo sniffed to.
“I smell them too…and they’re getting closer!” said Shippo before hiding behind Inu-Yasha.
-Wimp…- thought Inu-Yasha.
It was then that Miroku spotted the source of the flowery scent.
Sango was walking almost timidly behind Kagome, not use to wearing make-up and perfume. The monk stared at Sango…who if possible looked even more beautiful… Her lips had become glossy and full looking, her eye lids were misted in a light sparkle and her cheeks were tinted with the gentle pink of an innocent blush. It was Miroku turn this time to be absolutely stunned motionless…
“Doesn’t she look nice?” said Kagome as she put away her things while Sango sat down next to Miroku, but didn’t say a word.
“She looks so pretty Kagome! And she smells like spring flowers!” said Shippo.
“Yes-s umm…I think-k that-t…that-t...umm…I'm-m going to go get-t more wood…It umm...might snow tonight-t…” muttered Miroku as he stumbled to his feet and walked almost hastily away.
Sango took on a look of pure sorrow and failure…
“Oh Sango-chan…it’s alright… I’m sure that he really does indeed-“ started Kagome but Sango stopped her.
"It’s okay Kagome…we tried…it really doesn’t matter…” said Sango sounding depressed as she wiped off the make-up and sighed deeply.
-I guess he doesn’t like me after all…- thought Sango as she placed another log on the fire. It was starting to get much colder…
“I can’t tell her anything or I might snap…I have to stick to my promise and kill Naraku first…” muttered Miroku try to convince himself that falling in love was the worst thing for Sango and himself at this time, but once Naraku was truly dead he tell her…if she was still by his side at that time…Keeping her near was the only thing keeping Miroku sane. He had to get an heir soon because of the size of his wind-tunnel but he could never have a child with a woman he didn’t love. And because of the fact that he had to love her he couldn’t hurt someone that he loved…So his morals were the only thing keeping him from an heir…
Miroku thought for several hours, trying to think of what to do…
Miroku returned to the silent campsite, well after night had fallen, with a heavy heart and mind.
He walked quietly over to a tree near the fire and sat down, setting a nice bundle of wood on the tiny wood pile. Everyone was already sleeping soundly: Inu-Yasha in a tree without a blanket because he was a man and a man ‘never’ got cold, Kagome, Shippo, and Kirara were all sharing a big thick sleeping bag and Sango slept under a thick warm blanket next to the fire. Inu-Yasha was snoring as usual when he dreamt of food and he would occasionally mumble “Noodles…” Miroku chuckled slightly and set a few logs on the fire before leaning back against the tree and closing his eyes for a good long sleep…
An hour or so later he awoke to find himself very cold and covered in dense snow. It was piled in his hair and sprinkled his handsome face.
“Brr…” he muttered as he looked at the dead fire and his companions. He rubbed his arms as he got up, not noticing a blanket sliding off of his shoulders. He moved over to Kagome and felt that all three in the sleeping bag were warm and dry. Then he checked Sango…her blanket was gone, she was covered in snow and her skin looked rather blue…He quickly looked around for her blanket and saw it where he had been sleeping.
It appeared that she had gotten up shortly after he had returned and fallen asleep to give him her only form of stable warmth and protection.
“S-Sango…” said Miroku as he knelt next to her and touched her cold skin.
“She’s freezing-g…” said Miroku through chattering teeth as he picked her up ad moved back over to the slightly sheltering tree with the blanket at its base. As Miroku sat down again Sango’s eyes opened slightly and she looked up at him.
“Sango, do you know who I am?” asked Miroku softly as he brushed snow off her face. Asking questions was a good way to check for hypothermia…or shutting down of the brain and other organs.
“You’re-e…M-Mr. Fishy-y Cheek-k…” said Sango groggily as her eyes reclosed.
“Shit…” said Miroku as he tried to think of what to do.
“Body heat…” he said suddenly, remembering that skin on skin was the best way to warm someone up if they had gotten to cold.
-Sango…please forgive me for this…- thought Miroku as he pulled the blanket up over his head to start hold in heat and keeping out snow…
Miroku started peeling Sango out of her icy clothes but he left her in the bindings on her breasts and a strange garment that Kagome must have given her (girl boxers). Sango mumbled something as she was unclothed but Miroku couldn’t understand her gibberish…
He then opened up his own robes and pulled her inside after slipping his arms out of his sleeves so that his arms could touch her as well and help warm her up.
Sango’s icy skin and nearly limp body reminded Miroku of the countless dead bodies he had moved and buried but he wouldn’t let her die. He just had to get her warmed up soon…
Miroku’s hands, being non-lecherous for once, started to rub her limbs and skin in hopes of giving her some frictional heat.
His hands rubbed every where, slowly warming the cold girl up but there were some places he was tempted to but wouldn’t out of respect for her ever touch. He wasn’t going to take advantage of someone who had risked her own life to give him a little warmth…
After several minuets of rubbing and warming Sango didn’t seem very cold anymore. She was going back to her normal color and warmth.
“Sango, you really need to start taking care of yourself…” said Miroku in an almost teasing manner as he wrapped his arms around her and let their contact keep each other warm.
“I just wish that I could hold you like this more often…not just when you’re freezing, injured or heartbroken though I completely understand and don’t mind being there for you but we both probably agree that the distance between us needs to stay until a better time...if it ever comes…” said Miroku more to his self that the sleeping Sango.
He then shook her gently to rouse her into waking for a moment.
“Sango…Sango can you hear me?” he asked as she opened her eyes.
“Sango…do you know who I am?” asked Miroku as he smiled gently at her.
Sango didn’t say anything for a moment…
“-You’re…Miroku-sama…” said Sango quietly and Miroku nodded.
“Yes, that’s right…now go back to sleep and get some rest…” said Miroku as he stroked her hair and she fell back into slumber.
Miroku’s smile grew as he kissed the top of her head.
She’d said his name for the first time ever, and that made him want to break his promise that he made so long ago…
“…As long as I’m cursed, I can not tell her that I love her…only to break her heart when and if I die…”
