Chapter 2: The Moment Between

“I want to…” Kagome words were cut short as a pink tinted spirit arrow wiped by her head and embedded itself in the soft wood of the old well. She and Inuyasha turned quickly to see another Miko standing at the entrance to the cave. This Miko resembled Kagome with slightly paler skin and sharper less friendly eyes. Inuyasha look stunned he suddenly grabbed Kagome and pulled her behind him for he was not going to let some human hurt what was his.
“Sister move away from that demon.” the second miko said.
“Kikyo what in the seven hells are you doing?” Kagome screamed.
‘Sister. ‘Inuyasha thought ‘come to think of it they do look alike.’ However, there was something Inuyasha just did not like about the girl. Kagome looked from over Inuyasha shoulder and waited for her twin to answer her.
“Sister, what are you doing I said move,” she put another arrow into her bow and amid it at the demon chest. “I am going to send this creature back to the other realm. He has bewitched you so again I say move,” Kikyo stated.
Kagome push past Inuyasha. “I will not your being stupid Kikyo he is not a demon,” she tried to cover for him. ”Ha-! His aura screams demon, Kagome, and I have seen you two on more than one occasion I know were he comes from, Kagome, so don’t play me for a fool,” Kikyo hissed.
Kagome bit her lip she was a powerful miko but of the two of them Kikyo was stronger on some level ‘and her aim is better to,’ Kagome thought. “Gods, Kikyo, just go away and leave me alone this is none of your business,” Kagome said.
“It is my business when my own flesh and blood is threatened by a demon,” Kikyo pulled back on her bow.
Inuyasha moved in front of Kagome. “Listen, wench, it isn’t any of your business and for the record I am a half demon and I did not bewitch your sister, “Inuyasha growled.
Kikyo look at the boy. “Oh that’s even worse, Kagome, how could you lower yourself to a half breed? At least a full demon would have had some merit.”
This angered Inuyasha; he was close to attacking the miko even if her arrow was pointed at him. Kagome knew something had to give or Kikyo would kill Inuyasha.
She moved toward her sister,”Sister, he has merit. Of all the males I have met not one has shown more guts than him. Please if you care about me put your bow down, return to the village, and don’t look back,” Kagome begged. Deep down she knew if her sister carried out her mission she would have to defend herself and Inuyasha, and she was worried not only for their fates but of possibly hurting her sister.
Kikyo hissed, “You are mad sister.” She let loose her spirit arrow at the demon. Inuyasha grabbed Kagome’s arm to pull her out of the arrows path thinking that the arrow was for her. Kagome knew the true path of the arrow. As the arrow came closer to Inuyasha Kagome had been summoning her powers while trying to talk some sense into her sister. She focused on the arrow it forced it to the right, away from Inuyasha and towards herself. There was no other place for it to go. The arrow nicked Inuyasha arm and fasten itself into Kagome’s chest just inches from her heart.
Kikyo gasped, “Sister! “ She ran to Kagome as the limp from of her sister was caught by Inuyasha.
“ Kagome! Kagome!!!” Inuyasha screamed. He glared at Kikyo when Kagome did not open her eyes. Kikyo suddenly found herself pin to the wall of the cave with a very pissed off hanyou grabbing her by her throat. ”I am going to kill you bitch,” Inuyasha growled.
Kagome found herself in a dark place. She sensed that she was not dead, but some where near there. She looked around and found the source of the state of limbo. Her sister’s arrow of power was fighting her own power. One was trying to kill her, while one was trying to save her. She felt her sister’s power increase in strength, not surprising since it was designed to kill a demon, thus making it stronger that an arrow for a human. Kagome did the only thing she could; she pushed all her reaming strength into fighting the arrow’s magic.
By this time Kikyo was seeing dark spots. She had not imagined Inuyasha to be this strong in his human form. “I am going to kill you bitch,” he said again and squeezed her throat more tightly.
Kikyo grab his wrist, “If you don’t let me go I can’t help her. That arrow was meant for you and I don’t want my sister dead even if you tainted her, demon,” Kikyo gasped out.
Inuyasha looked back at Kagome her body seem to become paler and her breathing was weaker the Shikon no Tama was glowing in her hand pouring it power into it guarding body trying to keep her alive. “Very well, bitch, but if she dies I am gutting you and feasting on your intestines do you understand me? “ Inuyasha hissed.
Kikyo nodded and was dropped on her feet, but she moved over to her sister’s side and slowly began working the arrow out of her chest. Kagome found the Shikon No Tama power and began to add that to her own trying to fight off the mind numbing pain and the strength sucking arrow. Kikyo had the arrow out and was using her outer rob to stop the blood flow.
Inuyasha grabbed Kagome’s hand. “Kagome, wake up, please, I need you wake up,” he pleaded.
Kikyo was a bit taken by the demon’s words. She had been taught by her trainer that all demons were evil and they liked to bewitch humans and take there souls. But here this half demon was acting out of place. ‘Odd one he is, could he really love her and not bewitch her?’ she thought.
Kagome found enough strength to open her eyes she saw the sad eyes of her hanyou and she turned her head to see her sister trying to save her. ”Inuyasha, I am sorry. I could not let the arrow kill you,” she weakly said.
” Shhhh! Kagome, you need to say your strength,” he said.
Kikyo looked at her sister, “I can’t get the blood to stop I am sorry, Kagome. “ Kagome looked at her sister. “Why, Kikyo, we did nothing to merit you wanting Inuyasha’s death,” she choked out.
“My teacher said that all demons are evil and that they should be killed if they ever reenter our world. I was just doing my duty, Kagome, a duty if you remember is yours as well,” Kikyo stated “I did not mean nor want you to get in the way. I had hope with his death the spell you were under would go away, and you and I could go back to the shrine and protect the jewel,” she added.
Kagome looked at her sister. “I would not have returned with you, Kikyo. I love you and mother, but my place is with Inuyasha. There was no spell, I love him,” she stated.
Inuyasha’s heart leaped at her words and for a moment he forgot that she was hurt “Kagome, I Love you too.” He said.
Kagome looked at him “I am sorry, Inuyasha, I wanted to be able to go with you,” She said.
“Kagome, you would have come with me?” he asked.
”Yes, my place is with you I don’t belong here.” She smiled at him as she spoke. “I love my family but I could see them once in awhile if I had gone with you, Inuyasha.”
Kikyo looked at the couple. “I am sorry, Sister, this is my fault.” She grabbed the jewel out of her sister’s hand and stood up with it.
Inuyasha growled at her, “Give that back, bitch.” He lunged for her but missed. “Quiet, demon. I am doing the last thing possible to save my sister’s life. She is too weak to use the jewel so I am going to use it for her,” she smirked. There was a pause and then Inuyasha found himself blinded by a bright pink light. When the light faded Kagome lay motionless, but whole
“You healed her,” he said.
”Yes demon I healed her.”
Inuyasha looks took on a sadden tone he had lost his only way for them to be together. ‘At least she is alive,’ he thought.

The sun began to rise over the hills of Japan. Inuyasha found his power pulsing, pulling him to change from human to demon. For the first time he fought the changes he wanted to stay with his Kagome longer. The well had other planes it pulled him. The half breed form changed, Raven hair turned white, dog ears appeared on his head and his nails grew to claws, his eyes and skin changed as well. Kikyo found herself transfixed by the change in the boy. Inuyasha fought the pull of the well a few more moment almost begging it for just a moment more to say good bye to the girl he lost. As if feeling sorry for the hanyou the well let up on its pull just enough that Inuyasha turned to kiss Kagome good bye. Instead he suddenly found himself talked to the ground by a purring female half demon. “Kagome?” he question.
“Yes, Inuyasha, I can go with you,” Kagome said. She looked at her sister. “Thank you, Kikyo.”
Kikyo looked at her sister. ”I did not do it to be thanked, Sister. I still think you are being foolish, but it was the only way to save you and I did not want your death on my mind for the rest of my life. I suggest you go now. I will tell mother you are happy and that you have gone off with your new husband, “Kikyo said and then she turned and walked out of the cave.
“Kagome, we have to go,” Inuyasha said. He again felt the pull of the well as did Kagome.
“Lead the way, beloved,” Kagome said with a smile.
With that Inuyasha pulled his beloved mate close to him and he and she leap into the well and into the next moment in time.
