Chapter 1
~Aquilla Kingdom~
"Prince Altair!"
"I told you call me by my real name, using my celestial title depresses me."
"Inuyasha-sama, the Princesses are awaiting you outside for your presentation."
Inuyasha sat on his throne in the kingdom of Aquilla. Though by birth he was the prince, son of the star Altair, he did not wish to be. Life for him was as boring as it was glorious. He had everything he had ever wanted except one thing. Love. No matter what his needs were no one could help his lonley heart.
“Alright I’m coming.”
Inuyasha dressed himself quickly in a long blood-red kimono. It had gold designs stitched on, his page set a small crown on his silver head and he walked toward the gardens.
“Prince… Inuyasha-sama, there are so many princesses waiting for you. It was King Altairs order to have you choose a wife.”
“I keep telling him, that he should let me find my own wife, my way.”
“Oh, Inuyasha please… if you just pick a wife it will all be over with.”
“That’s the thing, I can’t just pick anybody! It has to be someone who means a lot to me, someone beautiful, someone who cares about me like I care for her.”
“Inuyasha, you may never find that woman.”
“I know… but I can dream…”
Inuyasha was led out to the main garden; there were women of all types standing in line waiting for his word. There were ladies from almost every celestial constellation. Virgo, Libra, Draco, Cygnus, Pegasus, Sagittarius, Aquarius. Every daughter of the Star Gods was there. But the one who stood out to Inuyasha, Prince of Altair Kingdom, was Princess of Vega Kingdom. She was quiet and shy; she was dressed in a light blue kimono, with purple flowers embroidered on it. Her long midnight black hair was held back on one side by a tiny purple dragonfly comb.
“Hello.”
Inuyasha waved away the other constellations. They turned and left the gardens.
“Um… Hello, it’s nice to… uh…” Vega staggered.
“It’s okay, what’s your name?”
“Princess of Vega from the east of the Heavenly River. My real name is Kikyou Kanawa.”
“Hello, Kikyou Kanawa. I am Inuyasha Takizawa, the Prince of Altair.”
“I know. We were fated to meet here.” Kikyou said shyly.
“Today is the day of Tanabata, the day we pray to our ancestors.” Inuyasha said closing his eyes and praying.
“The night of the stars. All constellations are meant to rejoice in this, the day the princes choose a bride.” she said praying as well.
“Not this prince, it may take a thousand years until I find the perfect bride,” he said doubting himself.
“You may find one tomorrow.” Kikyou smiled. “I am tired, I shall meet with you again if you so choose.”
Inuyasha nodded, and told Kikyou where they would meet.
Later after Kikyou and the other princesses had left, Inuyasha went to talk with King Altair about his decision. The King was not happy that his son had not yet chosen a bride. Inuyasha sat waiting for his father to finish ranting on about how important it is to be marrying and producing children so he can take his place as king.
“Inuyasha, please. If not for the sake of being king, why haven’t you chosen a bride?”
“Father, there is no love between myself and those princesses. I must find a bride I can love, a bride who will stay with me and love me forever. Please father let me do it my way.”
King Altair sat back down and pondered this thought. He sighed and nodded.
“If it takes more than a day to build the heavens, it will take more than a day for you to find a bride. You have swayed me my son. Go about this as you wish, but please bear in mind that if you do not find the one you love by the next solstice I will choose a bride for you.”
“I understand father. I already have someone in mind.”
“You do?” Said the King interested in hearing more, “Who is she? Which constellation?”
“She is Princess Kikyou Vega of the Lyra Kingdoms. She is beautiful; she stands out to me more than the rest. I have truly fallen for this woman father.” Inuyasha had just come to realize this after his princess had left. He had to wait until the following week to see her.
