Chapter 2
Over the next couple of weeks since they decided to work together,
Kagura and Kohaku had been sent out on various missions, so they
didn't get very many chances to talk to each other.
Then one day, out of the blue, Naraku called them both to his
quarters.
"Kagura, Kohaku, I have located the presence of a shikon shard. I
Want you two to go kill the demon who possesses it. Be careful though,
the demon is a powerful one, even without the shards power."
"Yes master." they responded simultaneously.
Once outside, Kagura bagan pondering.
"So, how powerful do you think this demon is?"
"I don't know, but I'd say he's at least as powerful as Naraku by the way
he made it sound. Why? What are you thinking?"
"Well, maybe we can get him to help us kill Naraku."
"And how will we do that? We will have to attack him, so Naraku doesn't
figure out what we're up to. Do you really think this demon will help
us after we do that?" Kohaku asked knowing full we that nobody would
be willing to help out after that.
Kagura thought for a moment. He was right. If they didn't attack the
demon, Naraku would figure out they were up to something. But their
chances of getting help from the demon after they attack him, were
somewhere between slim and none. That's when an idea hit her.
"All we have to do is promise to give him the shard Naraku has. Nobody
would pass that up."
"Maybe not, but let's just see, what happens." he said, looking down to
see how close they were getting to the demon. Judging by the amount of
chaos, they were definately getting closer.
A couple of minutes later, They came upon a clearing where a massive
creature was terrorizing some people. All aound him lay trees, and people
and their horses.
Kagura looked around amazed by what she saw. With a tiny flick of it's tail,
the demon knocked ten men back 60 feet. People from the next village over
came in at that moment firing arrows at it, causing it to growl fierosiously. It
turned around, and with a swipe of it's talon-like-claws, it sent two-thirds to
their doom, serverely injuring the rest.
Taking a step towards those that were still alive, with a deep, growling voice,
the demon spoke.
"Leave this place at once. I am sparing your lives. But be warned, i won't be so
kind the next time you decide to attack me."
Turning around, the demon looked up at Kagura and Kohaku. Not sure what to
do, Kagura kept her feather in the air. This demon was scary. Real scary.
He stood 30 feet tall and was about 50 feet long, and had huge spikes going
from the back of his neck to the tip of his tail. His hands were the size of huts,
and his claws were easily six feet long. But the most creepy thing about him
were his eyes. They were black. Pitch black. Except for every ten seconds, they
flashed a navy blue color.
Kagura shook. She realized that when he looked at them, he wasn't really looking
AT them. He was looking through them. He was looking for a weakness. She
looked away, if he found her weakness, he would surley use it against her. She had
to keep that from happening. So she did the first thing she could think of.
"Fujin no mai."
Sending her blades at the demon, Kagura started the fight. Kohaku took this as his
cue to attack. Grabbing the sickle at his side, Kohaku ran forward, only to stop when
the demon swatted the blades aside, like they were nothing but mere flies to him.
He looked down at Kohaku, then up at Kagura, who was now above the tree line on
her feather. A moment later, he started to de-transform into his human form.
After a minute had passed, and he was finished, he went over to one of his victims
bodies and took a kimono off it to cover himself. Finally after turning back to face
Kagura and Kohaku, He spoke to them.
"So I see Naraku has sent you to kill me for my jewel shard, right? Did he tell you it
would be futile? That this was pretty much a suicide mission? I have read both your
minds. I know what you are thinking. I know your greatest weaknesses. I could use it
against you. Oh don't worry Kagura, I won't tell your secret."
Stunned, Kagura gently set her feather down and got off. After making it small again
and sticking it in her hair, she walked over to Kohaku and stood beside him. What was
he up to? Could he really be as powerful as Kohaku said? Could he really know what t
were thinking? She didn't know. What she did know is that if they didn't try to get the
shard, Naraku would torture her for the next four months. Maybe longer.
"We came for the shards, not conversation." she said, hoping to get this over with. "So
let's cut the crap and get started."
The demon laughed. "But I already know so much about you. And yet, you know nothing
about me."
Kagura was at a loss. This demon was right. He knew everything about them. He had the
advantage.
Glancingup at Naraku's bees, Kagura hoped they would be able to tell her something useful.
Noticing her glance, the demon turned to look at the bees himself. After studying them for
a moment, he spoke.
"So I see we have a spectator. Now I can't have that spoiling my fun."
With that, his face got serious and his body began to glow. All of a sudden a beam shot out
and up at the bees. When it stopped, there was nothing left of them, and everything in it's
path was destroyed.
With Naraku no longer watching what was happening, he turned back to Kagura and Kohaku.
"Now that that's over with, us three are going to sit down and have a nice, long talk." he said
evily as he started forward.
