InuTaishou's Third Lover

The next day Kikyou was re-sealing the swords. Somehow they had broken overnight.

"I suppose I'm up against a bigger challenge then I thought."

"Yes, it is amazing what Master Totosai can do with his creations."

"Master Totosai?"

Kikyou was not startled by InuTaishou’s voice. She was comforted. But still she kept her secrets.

"Yes, he is a master sword smith, and is known only to the clans of demons."

"I see. And he was the one who forged these three swords?"

"Yes."

"How does he contain such power inside a mere dog fang?"

'So she can tell what they truly are...' thought InuTaishou, "I do not know."

"Lord InuTaishou. Will I ever meet your sons?"

"I think maybe one day. They will figure the power is of their fathers."

"Then I am to expect them?"

"Yes. You can expect them to come."

"Hmm? The smell of my father? He is near the Eastern Village, starting another war is he?"

Sesshoumaru was speaking to himself. He was watching over the Western Lands while his father went
away. InuTaishou did not tell his son where he was going. Nor did he tell him why.

"What does he want with a village as poor as that?"

"I think that maybe he went to see the priestess." growled Jaken.

"But why would he even think of talking to a human saint?" Sesshoumaru droned, "Is he after her for her
power? Does he wish her dead? Or does he seek the power of the Sacred Jewel?"

Sesshoumaru walked, startling Jaken into following.

"No Jaken, you stay here."

Jaken stopped and obeyed his master, watching the young lord disappear into the woods.


Sesshoumaru, soon to become the Lord of the Western Lands. He would be the one to succeed his
father, being his full demon son. And not the son with the tainted blood of humans. Sesshoumaru
thought to himself, 'How dare that hanyou think he could EVER be a part of my family. Feh, family... when
hell itself freezes... then we are family.'

Leaping from tree branch to the ground, staring into the distance as far into the brush as he could see.
Standing by the water, looking into the distance of the shoreline.

"Sesshoumaru..."

He let out a small moan and continued after his brother. He had smelled the scent of his father and then a
stronger smell came and he knew that Sesshoumaru had joined him. But he could sense something else
as well. A power, a power so strong that only the fabled priestess of that village could suppress.

"That priestess has the jewel. I can use it to become a full demon."

Kikyou and InuTaishou sat outside in the forest. InuTaishou was particularly interested in this young
priestess. How could she be so powerful? He wanted to know more about her, and wanted to be able
to... no. He couldn't, he had already lost two women he loved, it would just turn out the same way. He
couldn't love her, it was like something he couldn't have. It drove him mad. So he got as close as he could
to her, always going with her. Helping her and talking to her. And she, Kikyou, had come to rely on him.

"I can sense them coming." he said.

Kikyou kept gathering herbs without hesitation.

"I shall be glad to welcome them."

"You might find them to be a challenge as well."

Kikyou did hesitate then, only for a moment but InuTaishou had already sensed that. Kikyou thought
about the jewel and the swords. She knew that InuTaishou would keep his sons from doing anything
rash, yet she still had to worry about her village.

"So tell me about your family, these sons of yours."

"Ah, yes. My sons, Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha. Sesshoumaru is a full demon, as I am. Born of his mother
Sesshiko. He is 24 years old, and will soon become the lord of the Western Lands."

"And... Inuyasha?"

"Inuyasha, he was born of a different woman. A princess named Izayoi, after Sesshiko’s death I... fell in
love with her. And then one day she told me that she was with child."

"So Inuyasha is only a hanyou?"

"Very good. It is true, he is only half a demon. He is 18 years old this coming day, and he... will be more of
a challenge to handle."

"Because of the Shikon no Tama?"

"Yes, I know not how he learned of it, but he has been searching for it to become a full youkai. So I will
warn you now. Watch out for them, please."

InuTaishou was next to her now, staring into her eyes. Kikyou blushed and looked away. Such a
forbidden love that was tangled in her heart. She knew she had to hide it, she couldn't reveal herself to
anyone. Especially a youkai lord. She turned away from his gaze and kept collecting herbs. He jumped to
the other side of her, his gaze deepening.

"Kikyou. What is it you are hiding?"

"Lord InuTaishou, I can't reveal anything. If I did, I fear I wouldn't be able to take care of my village."

"But Kikyou, you have me to do that."

"InuTaishou, I cannot say anything."

InuTaishou stayed silent, there was nothing he could do to hear her secrets. He flinched when he saw his
son Sesshoumaru walk out from the trees.

"Sesshoumaru. What are you doing here? I told you to watch the castle."

"Father, you go on a journey to a humans village. How can I assume you are keeping peace?"

"You are right. I am sorry my son. I came to talk with the Priestess Kikyou." InuTaishou motioned to where
Kikyou had her back turned tearing plants from the ground.

"Why do you need to talk to this girl? Please tell me you haven’t..."

"No, no my son. I had to ask a favor of the young miko. I have asked her to guard something for me."

"Father, do mean to tell me, you are having this young woman seal the power of your swords?"

"Yes, and when you are ready to wield them... you shall."

"You, priestess, is this true."

Kikyou turned and bowed shortly. She rose and gathered her kimono and herbs before walking to the
young lord.

"Yes my lord. I have sealed the power of the three."

"All three? Father how could you ask so much of one woman?"

Sesshoumaru had to look at her. Long midnight hair, bright brown eyes. And yet in her eyes, a sadness,
something hidden. This young priestess contained a power. She was not evil, she was not youkai. She
was still human, and yet she had an aura.

"Sesshoumaru. This "woman" has enough power to destroy any spell she wishes, she hold power over
the Shikon no Tama. And she still has enough power to watch over her village, take care of her people.
And when I asked her to guard those swords, she agreed with no hesitation. I think you may have
overlooked her power."

"You are right father. Looking at her now I, I can sense the power."

Kikyou blushed again and started to walk back to the village. Sesshoumaru followed. He also wanted to
know what kind of powerful secret this miko hid. She knew that she might not keep her promise to
herself, about keeping her true being a secret. She was only an ordinary woman.

"Miko, what secrets do you hide?"

"Secrets that should not be told."

"Why do you hide yourself from this world, why do you keep it all inside?"

"Do you not keep your emotions behind locked doors as well my lord?"

"Well yes, but not a secret with so much power as yours."

"Please, my lord..."

"Sesshoumaru"

"Sesshoumaru, please, it is not wise to ask such questions of a woman you just met."

"Even if I already feel like I know you?"

"And now Sesshoumaru, you also hide a love?"

"No, I do not hide it."

"Yet you have not said anything."

Kikyou still blushing, walked into the shrine to prepare the herbs. She had to make many medicines for
her village. The people of this place seemed to grow new illnesses all the time. Sesshoumaru stayed
quiet. He stood in the shadows, watching her aid those in need. He almost envied her, for being so hidden. And yet loathed her for it. Another forbidden love.
