A New Path

As soon as they reached the other side of the well, Kagome hurried over to the vine ropes to get out of the well. Sesshomaru’s sensitive dog ears heard Inuyasha and Kikyo’s voices, and he grabbed Kagome, his hand covering her mouth, so that they could hear what was being said. At Inuyasha’s first words, Kagome went stiff in the great demon lord’s arm.

“Kikyo, if we are going to be together, you have to stay away. If you keep making Kagome angry and jealous, she will eventually just leave. I need to make her believe that she has a chance so that she will help me find the jewel shards.” Inuyasha said as Kikyo walked towards him.

“You don’t need her Inuyasha! I can also sense the jewel shards! Why use a copy when you can have the original? I don’t understand why we have to placate her!” Kikyo replied.

“She may just be a copy, but she is also stronger than you. Moreover, she keeps the group together. If I send her away, Sango and Shippo will leave as well. In addition, where Sango goes, Kilala and Miroku go as well. We’ll have them as competition for the Shikon Jewel. I hate to admit it, but I cannot defeat Naraku or get the jewel back together without their help.” Inuyasha said. ‘if Kagome is going to run off with my brother, then she doesn’t deserve for me to choose her. At least Kikyo was faithful…’

“What are you going to do with the jewel once it is put back together Inuyasha? Are you going to become a full demon? Or a full human? What will you do?” Kikyo asked.

“I was hoping to ask it to bring you back to life, and make me a human. I figure if I word it right, it will grant both wishes. Then we can send her back to her own time, and we can be together.” Inuyasha answered.

“Well, if we are going to pull this off, you had better go after her and ‘save’ her from Sesshomaru and bring her back from her time. Perhaps I can put a temporary block on the Well, that will keep her here.” Kikyo said. Kagome decided to slowly climb up the well and peek at them. She saw Kikyo say those last words, and saw Inuyasha take Kikyo in his arms and gently kiss her. Then the dead miko disappeared into the forest.

Kagome went back down to the bottom of the well, and stood facing Sesshomaru, not really looking at him. He however, looked intently at her. He watched as the emotions raged across her face. He saw sadness, pain, embarrassment, love, and, finally, anger. After the first wave of emotions, all he saw was anger, tinged a little with pain. However, she looked angry at the pain.

Kagome came to a decision, and she was resolute about that decision. She was going to continue hunting the Shikon shards with Inuyasha, but when she got the jewel, he was not going to make the wish. She would find someone else to make the purifying wish on the jewel. Maybe she would wish Shippo’s parents back or something like that. However, Inuyasha would never hold the Jewel in his hands.

“I’m sorry you had to hear that little miko. Perhaps my foolish brother will pay for this betrayal one day. For now, I am returning to my own lands. Good luck little miko.” With that, the great demon lord flew off. Inuyasha saw him flying away, and jumped down the well to get Kagome. She accepted his help in getting out of the well, and walked toward the village. She needed to see Kaede as soon as possible. She refused to look at or speak to Inuyasha. She didn’t realize that she was confirming to him that she was going with Sesshomaru because she liked him. They stalked off in silence, Inuyasha still protecting his shard collector.

Neither realized that Sesshomaru was watching from the sky, or that the demon lord had his own plans for the young priestess, plans that he didn’t even fully understand himself. He headed back to his palace in the western lands.


I decided that maybe I'd get more reviews if I had more chaptlers...sorry they are so short, I'm building up to it, I'm not completely sure where I'm going with this, but I'm hoping to make it long and detailed. more in a few days!! and Happy Thanksgiving!!
