Chapter 2: Denial
A Cool breeze caressed the travelers as they trekked toward Edo. It was a glorious, sunny day without an evil shard-wielding demon in sight. Yet, despite the respite from mind-numbing terror the air hung thick with tension.
Sango and Kagome glanced worriedly at each other. Miroku and Inu Yasha had ignored each other since they left the inn a few scant hours ago.
"Inu Yasha, is something wrong? Perhaps we could discuss..."
"Feh! Nothing's wrong!" yelled Inu Yasha. "Mind your own business, Kagome!" The hanyou quickened his pace thus dismissing the interrogation.
"Miroku-sama, What's going on?"
"Why, whatever do you mean Lady Sango?" Although his face appeared innocently perplexed, Miroku's voice held a high-pitched squeak.
"You and Inu Yasha have been acting strangely all morning."
"I have noticed nothing unusual. Inu Yasha is often surly in the morning. As for myself, I have simply been enjoying the peaceful day."
"Then why are you blushing, Miroku-sama?"
"Am I? Am I? Come to think of it, I am feeling a little flushed. Perhaps some quiet time alone to meditate would be of benefit." Waving his gloved hand nonchalantly, Miroku practically ran away from the small group. "Don't wait for me, I shall catch up soon."
"Inu Yasha."
The half-demon ignored Kagome.
"Inu Yasha!"
The hanyou increased his already brisk pace.
"Sit, boy!"
Sango, Kagome, Kirara and Shippo leisurely strolled toward the hanyou-sized crater in the middle of the dirt road.
"What the Hell was that for? Can't I even walk down a road without getting sat?"
"If you don't want it to happen again you'll answer my questions! Now, what's going on?"
"How the Hell should I know? Can't men have bad days once in awhile?"
"No! Now stand up."
"No. I'll just get sat again so I'm staying right here."
"Oooooh! Just wait, Inu Yasha; you'll have to get up sooner or later."
Slightly raising his head from the ground to stare at a red-faced Kagome, Inu Yasha smiled sweetly then said, "It'll be laaaateeer."
Inu Yasha started laughing loudly when Kagome's eyes bugged out of her head. Kagome was so angry she started panting.
"Kagome" whined Shippo, "are you alright?"
Gritting her teeth Kagome muttered, "I'm just fine Sweetie. Let's go. When Inu Yasha comes to his senses he'll talk."
"But Kagome, I'm not sure Inu Yasha has any sense" said Shippo.
"Hey, I'm right here you know!"
Picking up the kitsune, Kagome stepped onto Inu Yasha's back as she continued her way down the road.
Sango shook her head in confusion at the hanyou. "Why? Sometimes I think you want her to sit you."
"Sango, I'm a complicated man. Sometimes I'm good. Sometimes I'm bad. Most of the time I'm just stupid."
"You're a wise fool, Inu Yasha." Sango laughed as she left the hanyou in his hole to follow Kagome.
