Cruel Destiny
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha, but a girl can dream can’t she?
Naraku’s castle rose up before them. Kagome stopped in her tracks. She hadn’t realized it would be so close. She had known that they were going to do this. She had even left Shippo with Kaede to make sure that he would be safe if they failed. But now they were here. It was real. She stared for a moment until a gentle hand squeezed her shoulder. She turned and smiled at her best friend.
“Come on Kagome,” said Inuyasha. “You can do this. With us going against him, that bastard will be finished before he even starts.” She smiled softly.
“Do you really think so?” said a cold voice. Naraku rose up in front of them smiling coldly. “ I think I can make things even more interesting than that.”
An army of youkai rose up around them. Sango jumped on Kirara’s back and took off into the sky.
“Hiraikotsu!” she screamed, as she released her weapon into the wave of monsters. But sooner had a wave gone down than another group popped up to take their place. She continued to throw her weapon at the monsters as the rest began their assault.
“Kazaana!” cried Miroku as he tore the rosary off his hand and began to suck as many of the monsters into the vacuum as he could. Sango and Miroku quickly developed a battle tactic. She herded a group of monsters towards him that would be sucked into oblivion by his Kazaana.
“Let’s go Kagome!” yelled Inuyasha as he pulled out Tetsuiga. They ran forward weapons drawn, trying to cut a path straight to Naraku. Inuyasha sliced the demons as she shot her arrows as sparingly as she could, trying to save them for when they reached Naraku. By using the Wound of the Wind, Inuyasha quickly made his way to Naraku. Kagome was keeping up until a sharp pain in her shoulder caused her to fall backwards screaming in pain. She looked up in time to dodge a second arrow heading straight for her heart.
“Kikyo,” she whispered in shock. The undead miko walked towards her.
“Come girl. We will settle this now. And to the winner goes… our soul.” Kagome stood up. Her shoulder screamed in protest, but she walked forward. She drew her arrow and filled it with as much of her purity as she could. The women looked at each other for a long moment, and then as if there had been some silent signal, they let their arrows fly.
Miroku moved his Kazaana from side to side. He was getting tired, but he knew he couldn’t stop. He had to get rid of as many of the youkai as possible so that Inuyasha and Kagome could reach Naraku. The sweat poured down his face as concentrated on destroying the youkai. Sango swung past him the haraikotsu knocking a large group into the path of the vortex.
“Hold on houshi-sama,” she yelled. “There isn’t that many left. Go Kirara!” They raced off to the left attacking another group that had sprung seemingly out of nowhere.
Inuyasha raced forward. He was so close to Naraku only a few feet separated them. He moved into a fighting stance and was ready to attack when he heard Kagome scream. He whirled around in time to see the mikos aiming their arrows ath oth other.
“Kagome!” he screamed, starting to race over. The women let the arrows fly simultaneously as Inuyasha leapt into the air. No, he screamed silently. I can’t lose them both. He only had seconds to choose whom to save.
“Damn you!” he yelled as he jumped in front of Kikyo’s arrow. He knocked into Kagome as Kikyo’s arrow pierced his throat. He turned his head in time to see Kagome’s arrow pierce Kikyo’s heart. She looked at him for a moment his betrayal written in her eyes.
“Inuyasha?” she asked before her body shattered. Pieces of clay flew everywhere as her clothes and bow fell to the ground. A bright light burst forth and shot straight into Kagome. Her body convulsed under Inuyasha and she let out a scream that stopped everyone in their tracks. Her body glowed briefly and then collapsed to the ground.
“Kagome?” asked Inuyasha. She opened her eyes and smiled. She reached out and pulled the arrow out of his neck, healing the wound as it came out. He touched his throat in wonder.
“Your soul is back isn’t it?”
“Yes it is,” she smiled happily. She hadn’t felt this good in months. She stood up and grinned. “Come on Inuyasha. We have to things to finish up.”
“I’ll go ahead. You go make sure the others are ok.” He pulled himself to his feet and grabbed Tetsuiga. For a moment he allowed himself to look at what was left of Kikyo. Goodbye my love, he thought. Letting out a scream of primal rage he raced towards Naraku, sword held high.
Kagome ran over to where Miroku was, but before she got too close she stopped. His Kazaana was growing larger and the youkai didn’t seem to be slowing down. With a scream of fury, she ran towards the youkai, not knowing that she was glowing a pink color that grew brighter as every second passed. Without realizing she was going to do it, she aimed her hand towards the group of monsters. A purification wave poured out of her hand, incinerating every youkai in its path. She held out her other hand using another wave to take down more of the demons. She couldn’t think all she could do was destroy the demons. A voice somewhere in the back of her head screamed yes this is what I was born to do!
Inuyasha reached Naraku and the two of them began a deadly dance. Claws and sword met and clashed against each other. But despite the strength of the Tetsuiga, Inuyasha could not break through Naraku’s defenses. Every time it seemed like he would land a blow, the dark energy shield would crackle into being. The more Naraku protected himself, the angrier Inuyasha got.
“Why don’t you fight you fucking coward?” he screamed. In his rage he didn’t aim as well as he should have and was knocked backwards by Naraku. In an instant Naraku was on top of him, burning him with a blast of energy. Inuyasha screamed in pain. All he could see was Naraku’s eyes glowing with triumph. He heard Kagome scream his name and knew that he had failed both her and Kikyo that day.
CRACK! In an instant, half of Naraku’s face was gone. The hanyou screamed his rage and turned to see who would dare interfere. There stood Sesshouamaru, his acid whip ready for another shot. Inuyasha stared at his brother for a moment before the world went black.
“It’s time for this Sesshouamru to settle his debts with you, Naraku,” said Sesshoumaru. With a yell of rage, he transformed into his dog fond lnd leapt towards his pray. With a burst of dark power Naraku rose into the air. Kagome started towards Inuyasha. She cradled his head in her arms. She checked his pulse, which was beating weakly.
“He’s alive,” she whispered in relief. She started to heal his wounds, but was stopped by Sango and Miroku screaming.
Tonk onk held his wrist screaming in terror. The Kazaana had grown too large and was spreading over his entire hand. Sango had jumped off of Kirara and was holding onto his arm.
“Sango-chan run! Run now!” he begged her. She shook her head no and slipped under his arm, wrapping her own arms around him.
“I have lost my entire family Miroku-chan. I will not lose you too.” Sango looked towards Kagome. “Take our revenge Kagome-chan! Make Naraku pay.”
Kagome started to run forward, but was stopped by Kirara jumping on her. She screamed wordlessly, watching the Kazaana consumes her two friends. Sango turned her head towards Miroku and the last thing that Kaogome saw of them was their first and last tender kiss. And then they were gone.
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” she screamed out. She rolled out from under Kirara. Her body blazed with light and she ran forward. All she could see was Naraku. The two combatants were blinded by how strong the light emanated from her was. She stood in front of Naraku, her pain and fury giving her a power she had never even known existed.
“Kikyo, Kouga, Kohaku, Inuyasha, Sango, Miroku and Kami knows how many others.” Her voice rose in strength and volume with each word she pronounced. “You have hurt so many people. Never again Naraku! Do you hear me? You will never hurt anyone again!” she screamed and the world exploded with light. Kagome screamed wordlessly letting all of her power and rage flow into Naraku. She heard him scream and watched his body incinerate with every ounce of purification power she had within her. As her power finished pouring out of her, the light slowly died. Allt wat was left of Naraku was a pile of dust with his the nearly completed Shikon No Tama lying atop it.
“Never again,” she whispered as she picked it up. She took the small jar from the necklace she wore and pulled the other shards out of it. They flew out of her hand and into the Shikon No Tama. With a small burst of light it reformed itself and lay in the palm of her hand. She nodded and slipped it back onto its chain. She placed it around her neck in time to hear a soft moan.
“Inuyasha!” she cried out and raced over to him. She kneeled down and tired to heal him. But she had used too much of her power all ready. She would need weeks of rest to recover mikomiko abilities. As her adrenaline rush died down, she realized that she was exhausted.
“Inuyasha I can’t heal you,” she whispered. She began to cry. He lifted up a hand and touched her cheek.
“It’s ok, Kagome. Don’t cry for me. I’ll be with Kikyo now.” He smiled at her as the light went out of his eyes. His head fell back as he breathed his last breath.
“Inuyasha? Inuyasha? Oh Kami no, Inuyasha!” she screamed and began to sob. She gathered his still form in her arms, knowing that it didn’t matter what she did now. She didn’t even care when she heard the footsteps approach behind her.
“Miko,” said Sesshoumaru coldly. “You robbed this Sesshoumaru of his vengeance.” She turned at looked at him for a moment. She had lost her dearest friends in the world and he had the nerve to complain that she had killed Naraku?
“Damn you! Damn your pride and your vengeance. Damn you straight to hell Sesshoumaru! Everyone I love is gone! Do you even understand that? No of course not, you’ve never loved anyone in your whole life. You have what you want now.” She lifted up Tetsuiga and threw it as his feet. Take it and to hell with you! Kirara!” she screamed. The neko-youkai raced over and Kagome jumped on her back.
“Take me away from here,” she whispered and Kirara complied. Sesmarumaru watched her for a moment in shock. He couldn’t believe that she had the nerve to speak with him that way. Well what would you do if it were Rin, asked a voice from the back of his mind. He stood there for a moment and then took off after her, needing to speak with her as quickly as he could.
Author’s note: Ok so I still haven’t gotten to what my summary says the story is about, but if you like what I’ve got so far let me know. If no one likes my story there won’t be a point to writing it.
