Disclaimer: Not owner of InuYasha... although the boys do have a tendancy to hang out a lot around here.
Chapter 1: Uneasiness
She felt restless, felt as though her own skin was too small for her energy. She could feel it growing with each shard of the jewel. With each passing day. Something was happening to her and she had yet to figure out what that was. Her eyes were no longer their once deep brown, but had become a strange lavender color, much like the glow of her purification powers and of the Shikon no Tama when pure.
Kagome stared out over the hill overlooking the village as the sun set on the horizon. She was no longer the scared school girl that had fallen into the well years prior. She had grown, her body losing all her soft baby fat and becoming the toned warrior and miko protector of the village. She had little choice after the well had been destroyed by a certain baka inu-hanyou during a battle with another irritating, evil hanyou. It was on that day that she had lost her only way of escape from this world of youkai and magic.
“Kagome-chan?” a familiar feminine voice called out.
Kagome spun around, her long, raven locks swirling about her as she turned. She was dressed in what looked to be miko’s clothing, but not red. She refused to wear red, so the villagers had fashioned her some in green, reminiscent of her old uniform. She looked almost as though a forest spririt in her looks and attire. Her bow and quiver of arrows hung on her back. She no longer dared to wander offhouthout at least those.
Her gem colored, lavender eyes shined happily to her companion. “Hai, Sango?”
Sango herself looked a little older, dressed in a lovely kimono of red, her taijia attire peeking beeath the hem and the sleeves. Her own hair was down long around her shoulders as she smiled to the younger girl. “Kaede sent me to fetch you for supper.”
Kagome smiled warmly to her best friend and nodded. “Hai.”
The dying day was lovely, with its cascading colors of red and gold. Colors that too much, reminded her of her hanyou companion. He just seemed to get onto her nerves more and more now. It was almost like he was doing it on purpose.
“Kagome? I’m sure he didn’t mean it when he said that today,” Sango rationalized, knowing Kagome’s thoughts.
The young miko smiled to her sister in arms and nodded. “I know, but it felt nice to sit him anyways!” Kagome giggled.
Sango laughed and nodded to her younger friend and the two headed off towards the village.

It had been simple to sneak away from the hut once everyone was asleep. Her bow and arrows lay at her side as she sat near the edge of the river in her white yukata. The silvery moon cast a strange light over the river, making it appear a river of molten silver. Kagome sighed and smiled at this lovely scene before her as she felt a song come from her lips. It was something she had heard before the well’s destruction. A soft and lilting tune that had stuck with her.
“I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph; I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain,”
He had been tracking that blasted halfbreed for a while now. He would finally destroy the whelp and clear his family name of his tarnished blood. As he neared the small village that he knew the brat occupied, he paused. A soft and almost sad tune was drawing him away.
“‘Cause I’m broken when I’m lonesome
And I don’t feel right when you’re gone away,” the voice sang.
Sesshomaru found himself at the edge of a river. A strange and almost ethereal beauty sitting at the edge, singing his brokenhearted song. Calling to him.
“You've gone away, you don't feel me anymore
The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away
There’s so much left to learn, and no one left to fight
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain,” she sang.
Suddenly, the destruction of his pathetic brother was no longer of any import. Only the identity of the beauty before him mattered.
“‘Cause I’m broken when I’m open
And I don’t feel like I am strong enough
‘Cause I’m broken when I’m lonesome
And I don’t feel right when you’re gone away.”
She could feel youki behind her. She could vaguly recall it, but knew it was not Naraku’s no, she knew that one too well. Also, if this was a youkai, why had it not attacked yet? Was it Kouga? No, he wouldn’t be this patient. Kagome slowly turned and gasped as she saw the Western Taiyoukai before her.
He knew her! God, how had he not recognized her? This was the miko wench of his half breed brother! How could he have forgotten her light, inhuman scent of sakurd spd sp? Sh? She stared at him for a moment, not moving, but still singing.
“‘Cause I’m broken when I’m open
And I don’t feel like I am strong enough
‘Cause I’m broken when I’m lonesome
And I don’t feel right when you’re gone away.”
He could see that she had matured, no longer wearing that indecent get up that he had seen her in those first encounters. No, her yukata covered her completely, but still outlined her perfect curves. She was no longer a girl, no she was a woman, a woman that knew the sight of battle as well as the feel of it. He could see that in her lovely, lavender eyes.
“‘Cause I’m broken when I’m lonesome
And I don’t feel right when you’re gone
You've gone away, you don't feel me anymore,” she finished, her voice trailing off.
“Tell me, miko, why do you not scream for my pathetic brother?” Sesshomaru asked.
Kagome snorted and shook her head. “I know that I cannot always depend on InuYasha. Anyways, what would keep you from just killing me now if I did?”
Sesshomaru let a ghost of a smirk grace his lips. “Very wise.”
“May I inquire as to why you are here, Sesshomaru-sama?” she asked.
Sesshomaru nodded. “You know that answer.”
Kagome sighed and nodded. “The Tetsuaiga. If I am not being to bold, but why do you care for the Tetsuaiga when your father gave you a powerful sword that could do so much more than a youkai slayer?” Kagome asked.
“That is too bold. This Sesshomaru needs not answer that.”
Kagome nodded. “I meant no offense, Great Taiyoukai. It was just a question.”
“You have grown far more well mannered, miko. This, I know, does not come from my brother.”
Kagome nodded again. “Lady Kaede has taught me much. One of which is the courtesy one bestows a taiyoukai and how one acts before those of high social status. Un fortunately, none of these lessons have penetrated InuYasha’s thick skull.”
Sesshomaru made a sound that resembled a snort. “Indeed. The hanyou is quite ill mannered.”
Kagome smiled. “One cannot blame him, though, my lord. He has spent far too much time away from that of civilized people and youkai alike.”
Sesshomaru seemed caught by her. Entranced by how much she resembled a youkai maiden now. “What are you?” he asked without thought.
Kagome’s eyes widened slightly before drawing into thought. “What do you mean, my lord?”
“You cannot be human. No human is this polite without deception, and I sense none. You don’t smell human either,” he recovered.
Kagome’s eyes seemed to sadden slightly as she took a seat in the soft grass and motioned for him to join her. “I don’t know. I myself know that it is impossible for a human miko to hold such power that I possess.”
Sesshomaru stood for a few moments, before becoming uncomfortable and with a slight incline of his head to Kagome, left.
