Chapter 2

Not a word, not a movement. Sesshoumaru just let the blood f If If he would only reach for Tetseiga, the wound would heal immediately. Actually, all he’d have to do was will this wound away, such are his demon powers. But he was frozen there, bleeding. I could easily kill him, right now, whereas every other time we met, I was at his mercy, despite what my companions think, he always spared me. We shared this secret together. Suddenly, the thought sprang to mind—maybe he wasn’t such a bad brother after al---No. I have to kill him. He’s strong. He’s a threat.

I look another dive towards him. “Die!”

As I closed in, in one fluid motion my brother grasped my wrist, twisted it, and sent me reeling backwards. Damn, he was quick. I was pretty dumb to think he’d just let me kill him, regardless of the strange mood he was in.

I brushed the leaves off my kimono and turned to face him and spout some more ignorant threats. That was the moment. That was the moment I saw what I never imagined I would see. Sesshoumaru was crying. I guess he was crying the whole time, silently, I had not seen his face until now.
I grasped his chin and turned his face up so that it stared into mine. I was deathly afraid. Never. Never had I seen such a feeling in his eyes before. Never such a weakness. It was creepy and unnatural. I wanted it to change. I wanted this look to change into—well into anything but what it was. I stared hard back at him, determined.

“Why are you crying? Lord of the Western Lands?” I hissed as I slapped him right across his porcelain face.

No response.

“Did someone hurt your Rin-chan? Poor puppy.” I hissed and kissed him on the forehead in mock sympathy.

Then he responded.

“Don’t, Inuyasha,” Sesshoumaru let out a weak protest, “ That’s going a little too far. I don’t deserve to remember what I lost then on top of what I lost now.”

That said, Sesshoumaru gained some of his composure back, stood, and slowly disappeared into the horizon.
