I'm Sorry
Chapter 2: I’m sorry
Disclaimer: again I do not own Inuyasha or its characters
Sango went in the hut and quickly changed clothes. She decided to make it speedy since the lecherous monk was around and most likely close by.
“Hey Shippo, do you want to go for a walk with me? I need to find some herbs for Kayede since Kagome’s not here to do it.” Sango said sleepily.
“Sure Sango, I’ll help you look for them.” Shippo replied happily.
“Well let me go tell Miroku, hopefully he won’t go along. I don’t really feel like being grabbed inappropriately by a monk at the moment ya know?”
Shippo giggled. Sango walked out of the hut to go find Miroku. Turns up he was sitting underneath a shade tree meditating when she saw him. The thought to herself ‘Aw, I guess I’ll just leave him be, it’s not like it’s really any of his business to know about my whereabouts anyways. He can keep on meditating, like a good little monk should.’ She giggled at the thought of Miroku being a “good little monk”. She walked back quietly to the hut to get Shippo and then off she skipped into the forest.
Miroku sat there breathing deeply and turning thoughts over and over in his mind. He couldn’t get a certain someone off of his mind lately, she was innocently plaguing him. He thought she would surely be the death of him because she didn’t know what she was accidentally doing to him every time she spoke to him or got close. He knew he couldn’t have her though. Her heart belonged to someone else plus he was dirt compared to her, or so he thought. He couldn’t even look at her without feeling undeserving. He got really depressed over this subject and it was slowly knawing at his soul. He just sighed and tried to think of something less torturing to think of because it wasn’t helping him mellow out at all. Suddenly the wind picked up and Miroku got a strange feeling in the pit of his stomach.
Inuyasha was running at top speed tearing through the woods. The first person he saw was Miroku.
“Hey monk, where’s Kag?” He asked forcefully.
“She went home to get some supplies and to rest a bit, I told her she could go.”
“OK, then where’s Sango and Shippo?”
“In the hut last I checked, probably talking about girlie stuff and laughing.”
“Feh.” Inuyasha walked away to go into the hut. When he got in there he found a note from Sango. It read:
Miroku,, I just want you to know that Shippo and I went to find herbs for Kayede. We should be back pretty soon so don’t worry, and Miroku, don’t follow and tell Inuyasha not to be a jerk about Kagome going home and all. I kind of sent her because we ran out of shampoo and meds. Anyways see you when we get back…
Sango
Inuyasha immediately dropped the note and his face lost all color. ‘Doesn’t she know’ he thought. He rushed out the door and back over to Miroku who was in deep meditation again.
“GET UP YOU STUPID MONK!” He screamed.
“What’s wrong Inuyasha?”
“Sango took Shippo out with her to gather herbs, she’s in danger, don’t you know what day it is?” He fumed.
“No what’s wrong?”
“It’s the 5th anniversary of the slayer village slaying, you know her old village, Naraku has to be up to something dirty, you should have kept a better eye on her monk! If she’s hurt you are a million times dead. Come on we have to find her before Naraku does first! Get on!” Inuyasha was furious at Miroku for not being more careful. After all wasn’t this the woman he loved?
Miroku was really worried and told Inuyasha to run faster. It would be easy to find her after Inuyasha caught her scent.
“I’m sorry Inuyasha, for not watching Sango.” He was on the verge of tears. He knew something was wrong because of the feeling he had in his stomach.
“Feh...” Inuyasha smelled salt on Miroku, that’s when he knew the monk had really meant it and was about to cry. “It’s not totally your fault, Sango is really sneaky sometimes. Plus I knew I shouldn’t have left you guys alone. I should’ve known better by now.”
Miroku placed his head down on Inuyasha’s back as they ran through the forest. He didn’t want Inuyasha to see him cry. After all he was taught that real men are strong and do not openly show feelings to others, so he tried to hide the fact as best as he could. Miroku whimpered a little bit and Inuyasha’s sensitive ears heard it. He felt bad now for leaving Miroku behind to care for the group because now the monk was beating himself up for making a mistake that may or may not have been able to stop either way. Suddenly Inuyasha picked up a familiar scent.
“Shippo.” He muttered.
“What?” Miroku asked.
“I smell Shippo,” He paused. “and salt.” Miroku didn’t think about what that meant he just wanted to see them OK. Inuyasha slowed down, he had heard Shippo in a bush.
“Shippo?” He called softly.
“INUYASHA!” Shippo screamed and ran towards him crying.
“Where’s Sango, Shippo?” Shippo hesitated for a second and then grabbed Inuyasha’s hand and led him deeper into the forest. By that time Miroku had jumped off Inuyasha’s back and followed the two close behind through the thick shrubs. Inuyasha gasped as soon as he was led around the other side of a gigantic boulder. There lay Sango’s body, bloody and beaten. When Miroku gazed upon the scene his heart stopped beating in his chest and he gasped but he couldn’t breathe. He ran over to her and immediately threw his arms around her and buried his face into the shoulder portion of her slayer’s uniform. Inuyasha’s eyes welled up and he felt faint. He tried to say something but the words just wouldn’t come. Shippo finally spoke what they had been waiting to hear.
“Naraku ambushed us. He brought the dead demon slayers back to life and Sango ran towards them, hoping that they were back from the spiritworld and not even thinking it could be one of Naraku’s evil plans. I screamed for her to stop but she kept running towards them and the moment she reached out and hugged the one that looked like her father they all attacked her and killed her with their swords. I couldn’t stop them and they started looking for me so I hid in that bush that you found me in. I didn’t want to come out I knew she was dead. I was so happy when you guys came because I thought they were going to get me too. Poor Sango…” Shippo cried.
The monk was crying even harder now and had gotten her blood all over his face and robes. He was saying “I’m so sorry…I’m so sorry…” over and over to her even though she was long gone. He hated himself for not watching after his friend and now she was dead and it was all his fault. He started to hyperventilate and gasp for air crying in between short hardly good enough breaths. He became light headed and passed out.
Inuyasha raced over to him to make sure he was alright. His breathing was highly irregular and he was turning pale.
“Come on Shippo, we have to take Miroku back to the hut before we bury Sango. Something’s wrong with him. I’ll have to get Kagome to look after him.” Shippo hurried along with Inuyasha. It seemed like it didn’t take anytime to get back. He rushed inside the hut and set Miroku down on his mat and told Shippo to look after him for a second while he got Kagome. Shippo nodded and sat by his side. Could Shippo ever forgive him for not paying attention, or better yet could Shippo ever forgive himself for going along with their little “let’s not tell Miroku” plan. He sighed and watched Miroku breathe awkwardly.
In the meantime, Inuyasha jumped through the well and quickly climbed up the other side. He got to Kagome’s house and flung open the door startling everyone who heard. He immediately rushed up to Kagome’s room and grabbed her by the arm and started dragging her downstairs. This scared her, she thought he was mad.
“Inuyasha, what the hell do you think you are doing?” she asked.
“Just get your herbs and medicine and hurry up!” He yelled.
“No I’m staying here I’m not ready to go back just yet.” She protested.
“Kagome, you have to come now….please.”
Was that a plead she heard in his voice, somng mng must be wrong she thought so she finally gave in. She nodded her head yes and went back up to her room and got her bag and rushed downstairs and back to the well with Inuyasha.
“What’s wrong?” she asked before they went to jump through.
“Just take care of Miroku for me for a little while an I’ll tell you when I get back.”
She nodded and they jumped through the well. As soon as they climbed out Inuyasha grabbed Shippo and tore off through the woods. Kagome walked slowly into the little hut and saw Miroku laying there with blood all over him breathing spasmatically. She rushed over to him and tore away his robes to search for a wound but she didn’t find any. She went to get a wet cloth to put on his forehead and chest to calm his breathing and crushed up some herbs to help him calm down. She stroked his forehead.
“Miroku? Miroku?...” She patted his cheek and he slowly opened his eyes. The tears poured out of them instantly and she asked him what was wrong. He motioned for her to get closer and she did until she was about an inch away from his face…..and then he kissed her.
