Part Two

“Hey, are you guys hungry?” Sango quipped, suppressing her guilt. She’d kept Kagome and Rin pretty late. But they had gotten a lot accomplished.

“I’m used to eating late,” Rin replied, merrily rolling her eyes. “We’re in here most nights ordering takeout.”

“Yeah well, I’m sure Momma has something waiting for me at home,” Kagome said, all too aware that despite her mother’s busy schedule, meals were planned and the housekeeper, Kaede, kept everything working like clockwork. “Don’t worry, Sango-chan.”

Sango nodded, and patted Rin on the arm. “I’ll get you for that. You make me sound like a slave driver.”

They all laughed as they locked up and headed out towards the main door.

“Did you need a ride, Sango?” Kagome asked.

“Uh, no,” Sango sputtered nervously, “I’m getting-.”

She was cut off by the noise of a motorcycle pulling up just outside, the sound of a horn could be heard clearly.

“Later guys! I gotta go! Thanks again for everything!” Sango dashed out the front doors waving and a bit anxious to be on her way.

Kagome and Rin exchanged looks at her odd behavior. Maybe she was embarrassed about it being Kuranosuke? Next to Hojo-kun, he was also extremely popular and respectable as well as being the school kendo champion.

“What was that all about?” Rin asked as they headed outside. The summer night breeze was pleasant after being cooped up in the workroom so long.

Kagome shrugged. “I have no idea.” She noticed that Sango was riding on the back of an expensive purple and black motorcycle. “I didn’t know Kuranosuke had a bike.”

Rin lightly laughed at her comment, “You never know who has them these days. Did you need a ride home?”

“No, Hojo-kun is supposed to pick me up. I called him about twenty minutes ago but he’s late.”

“Should I wait with you?” Rin asked, concern in her fathomless onyx gaze.

“No, maybe he got held up with something although that’s not like him.”

“Okay, but I could easily give you a ride. I’m driving my new Mercedes.”

“Oh wow! The gold convertible?” Rin nodded and Kagome smiled brightly. “Don’t tempt me. I’ll just give him another call.”

“Alright then. Bye Kagome,” Rin said, walking away towards the parking lot. “See you tomorrow.”

“Bye Rin. Thanks!”

Kagome decided to have a seat on one of the nearby wooden benches. She took out her cell phone and spoke into the tiny speaker, “Mr. Perfection,” to activate her boyfriend’s number. His phone went immediately to his voice mail message. Slightly, frowning at this strange turn of events, she tried his home phone number but was informed that he’d left over ten minutes ago.

“Hmm,” Kagome pondered aloud, tapping her foot on the brick path. Where could he be?

A horn blew and she glanced up to see the security guard in his black truck waving at her.

“Everything okay, Ms. Higurashi?” He called out with a friendly smile. “Did you need a ride?”

“Yes everything is fine, sir! Thanks, Mr. Tanaka but someone is coming to pick me up!”

“Okay then, I just escorted Miss Todo to her car. She said you were waiting for someone but I wanted make sure your ride was still coming.”

Kagome thanked him again and he nodded and drove away to make his rounds. The school campus was fairly large so it would take a while before he came back her way. Luckily by then , she would be gone.

She looked at her watch. 9:50. “Hojo, where are you?”

*~*~*~*~*~

Hojo was stranded on the expressway.

He’d been forced to abandon his car several miles back after his tire blew out. What made the incident so bizarre was that his spare tire had also mysteriously been ruptured although he could have sworn he had it fixed weeks ago.

To top it all off, his cell phone battery was dead even though the phone was brand new! You could never trust those dealers, he mused.

A semi rushed past him splashing an enormous amount of mud and water on him. He was drenched for head to toe. Hojo bore it all good naturedly though. His main concern was Kagome. She was at the school waiting for him but he was certain that if it got too late, she would either get a ride from her friends or security would drive her home.

He looked up at the nearest sign and sighed. The closest gas station was still yet another five miles away. The only vehicle to pass him was the truck.

“Oh well, guess I’d better stick it out,” he said and trudged on towards his destination.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Sango was pressed against the lean hard frame in front of her. If her friends knew about her secret would they disown her?

She could feel his heart beating against her fingertips, as the night wind swept across their hair, clothing and skin. She had never felt so free and alive. Takeda never made her feel this way. He was fun, honorable and loving but he was not-

“Hey, I’m gonna pull over,” he said, guiding the bike up a hill that overlooked the entire lake and park.

They dismounted and the moon shimmered down on the indigo water and the silvered vegetation and sweet scented night flowers that wafted their alluring fragrances. She waited while he removed the helmet, turning to stare down at her with his intense violet-gray eyes. Long locks of dark hair danced around his boyishly handsome face and a dimple twinkled in his cheek.

Sango stared up at him speechless as his arm went around her waist and she exhaled his name, letting the wind carry it away.

“Miroku...”
Something leather-clad and urgent stroked her bottom and Sango’s face flamed up. She nearly jumped twenty feet into the air as she tensed and jerked to face him.

“Miroku!”

His head snapped back from the force of the blow across his face.

“TAKE ME HOME!”

Miroku sighed and did just that, apologizing profusely all the way for ruining a perfect evening.

A/N: Thanks for reveiwing
