Goodbye to Us: Chapter 2

Kagome walked along the darkened streets until she came to the park where she
used to take her brother, Sota, when he was little. There was no one in the park on this
warm summer night and Kagome knew she would be safe to complete her task. Setting her
pack on the ground, she pulled out the object in the black silk handkerchief and unwrapped it.
It was a necklace with a brown pentagram on a black silk cord. Kagome received this
necklace on her 15th birthday from her childhood friends Relena, Samantha and Erika before
they left. She could remember that day so very well.

Flashback

“Do you guys really have to go?” asked Kagome, sitting in a circle on her family’s
shrine grounds with her friends.
“Yes, I’m afraid we have to” said Samantha, wrapping her arm around Kagome’s
shoulder.
“You should really be coming with us” said Relena.
“I know. It’s just that my mother needs me here” replied Kagome. Erika sat ac

from Kagome, checking her watch.
“It’s time” said Erika. The girls stood up and they began to say their goodbyes.
Samantha pulled an object out of the back pocket of her jeans.
“Take this. If you ever wish to join us, it will help you find us. Just go to a place where
you can be alone at night and say 'By the power of the Elements, reveal the key to my friends'.
In the moonlight, the necklace will glow and show you the map” said Samantha.
“I will” said Kagome. The girls walked to where Samantha’s car was parked.
Kagome looked in the passenger window at her friends.
“I have a feeling we will see each other again” said Erika, smiling.
“Bye. I’ll miss you” said Kagome as the car drove off.

Flashback End

Kagome held the necklace out in the palm of her hand and looked up at the full moon.
“By the power of the Elements, reveal the key to my friends” said Kagome. She
looked down at the necklace. It began to glow a light brown and it shot out a light. Written
in the light was ‘Go to the train station. Ask for the key to box 148. Everything is taken care
of’. And then the light went out. Kagome put the necklace back in her jeans pocket.
‘It looks like I’m headed for the train station’ thought Kagome as she picked up her
pack and headed for the train station.

Inuyasha walked across the shrine grounds towards Kagome’s house. He jumped to Kagome’s
window and opened it. She wasn’t there. His ears twitched as he heard the faint sound of
crying from downstairs. It was Kagome’s mother. He hated hearing women cry. Inuyasha flung
open Kagome’s room door and headed downstairs. He finally found Kagome’s mom in the
kitchen at the table, crying. There was a letter in front of her.
“Mrs. Higurashi, what’s wrong?” asked Inuyasha.
“Kagome has run away,” replied Ayame, “It must have been some time during the night.
All she left was this note.”
“What did it say? asked Inuyasha. Ayame picked up the letter and began to read.

Dear Mom,
By the time you read this, I will be gone. Where I am going, I’m not sure but, I know
I will be fine. I would tell you to not worry about me but, I know you will anyway. This was
a hard decision to leave. Please don’t let Inuyasha try to find me. I never want to see him again.
Do tell him that despite how much I am hurting right now, I still love him. I think her deserves to
know at least that much. Give my love to Sota and Grandpa and tell Inuyasha to give my love
to Miroku, Sango, Shippo, Kilala and Kaede. I will miss them all but, this is something I have to
do. You will always be in my heart.

Inuyasha stared at the charm on a string that Kagome had left for him in Ayame’s palm.
It was the Japanese character for protector.
‘She can’t be gone,’ thought Inuyasha, ‘She can’t. I won’t allow her to leave me like
this. Wait, I pledged to go with Kikyo to hell. Why should I care?’ thought Inuyasha.
‘Because you love her’ said a little voice.
‘No I don’t’ replied Inuyasha.
‘Don’t lie to yourself. You love her and you want her as your mate. Admit it’ said
the voice.
‘I do, but now it’s too late’ thought Inuyasha. He looked at Kagome’s mom as she
got up and handed the charm to him.
“I’m sorry Mrs. Higurashi. This is all my fault” said Inuyasha.
“I don’t blame you for this Inuyasha. Kagome made her won choice” said Ayame.
“I know” replied Inuyasha.
“You should go back and tell your friends what happened” responded Ayame.
“I will and then I am coming back to look for Kagome” said Inuyasha.
“No. We must respect her wishes. Just don’t forget her” said Ayame.
“I could never forget her” said Inuyasha.
“She will come back. I know my daughter. Once she is finished with whatever she is
doing, she’ll come back. You two were meant to be together. That I am sure of” said Ayame.
Inuyasha turned around and headed back to the well to break the bad news of Kagome’s
departure and that she won’t be back for some time.
