hello?

Sesshomaru watched in silence as she finished her song. He wondered what it was about her, but it was mysterious, and...something else. He didn't have exactly the right word-yet.

Auko put down her instrument and stared at the fire. Then she pulled out the contents of her bag. One thing was wrapped in a towel, which she undid and layed in her lap. "Come here Tork," she called the wolf. The large demon got up and walked over to its master. The demon was a foot taller than the human when she was sitting. He sat obidiently before her. Auko handed whatever it was inside the towel to the dog and he started to scarf it down.

Then to his surprise she stood up and turned in his direction. "I know you're there," she called out. His eyes went wide at first as he took in the shock. He quickly regained his composer and stepped out from behind his hiding place.

Auko looked him over quickly. She folded her arms behind her back. "Can I help you?" Sesshomaru could tell by her actions that she find him a threat. It angered him some what, but he ignored it. He wasn't quite sure what he should say.

"I am Sesshomaru, Lord of the Western Lands," he announced. "You are in my territory." He thought that would be a reasonable answer to her question without giving away his real purpose.

"Really? But don't you let other humans live around here in villages?" she asked.

"They live on the borders and know the rules. But you have crossed the border," he wasn't sure where she was going with this.

"Well...ok. I guess we'll leave then. Tork," she called to the dog, "put out the fire." She reached down and pulled one log from it that was on fire. She picked up her bag and started walking east. The dog got up and started to throw dirt on the fire with his paws.

"You're the one I passed in the forest, right?" Auko asked him. Sesshomaru nodded. "You didn't tell them where I was in the woods...did you?"

"Why would I help a band of worthless humans with their own problems?" he narrowed his eyes as he said it. She merely smiled and walked off, with her pet following, food in mouth.Sesshomaru had taken his time getting back to the camp. He cursed himself for not getting the information he had wanted and actually pushing her away. Why had he lied anyway? When he did get back to camp, he found a seat against a tree and looked up at the stars thinking about what had happened.

**************************************************

It had been a little longer than a week since that happened. Sesshomaru was waiting at the outskirts of a village where Rin and Jaken had gone to. Rin had timed the moment when she would ask for a new kimono. Her other one had ripped and was somewhat dirty and Sesshomaru hadn't hesitated to oblige. Jaken had gone with also for some supplies and to keep a watch on her.

Sesshomaru stood in a field with Ah-Un close by sleeping. He was still well within view of the path from the village so that the two could see him. He was resting against a tree when he heard something coming towards him, brushing against the tall grass. But when he smelled the air, it wasn't that of a child or a disgusting toad. Instead, it smelled older, yet feminish. When he opened his eyes, he was surpised to see the woman he had encountered not to long ago walking towards him.

Sesshomaru didn't move from his place by the tree but waited for her come nearer. When she finally did reach him, she spoke, "Well, if it isn't the one person I wanted to see." She smiled at him in a playful manner.

"Hello to you too," Sesshomaru said to her with a smirk.

"Can I help you?" he asked the girl.

She came a little closer and kneeled down beside him. "Yes, you can," she replied as she pulled a dagger from its sheath around her waist and stuck the tip under his chin. The smirk on his face faded, not sure of her intentions.

"You lied to me," she scolded as she pushed the dagger up against his skin more. His head lifted as she pushed the dagger so that he woundn't be cut by the blade.

"How so?" he questioned.

"You said you hadn't helped those worthless humans, but when I got ahold on one of them, he told me differently. He was too scared to lie to me...there fore you are a lier."

"Do you know what you aring?ing? I am a demon. Surely you do not think you can kill me."

"Who said I was going to kill you?" she said, slapping his chin up with the flat side of the knife. "And even if I was, don't think I would a h a hard time doing it." He glared at her as if that was a challenge. Did she honestly think she had a chance against him?

Auko put her weapon away. "After I left, I remembered that I didn't tell you my name after you told me yours. It's Auko. I doubt it holds any importance, but I thought you might like to know." He sat silent, thinking about her. s Aus Auko was a strange one. No...not strange, just...defiant. Yes, that was it.
