Chapter 2: The Curse Is Known
Inuyasha's first concern when he woke up was not that of his injuries. He tried to sit up, but Kagome eased him back down. "You shouldn't move," she said. "That hole in your gut is still open." "Hell, Kagome," he grumbled as he lay back down. "What the fuck's the matter with you?" Kagome was ready to shout out SIT when Miroku emerged from the other room with Sango.
"Any change?" Kagome asked and the monk shook his head. "Still unconsious and feverish. But very much alive." "Thank God," she sighed and looked at Inuyasha. "What happened?" he asked suddenly feeling the tension in the room. Sango sighed and nodded. "When you fell unconsious, Yasha took Tetsusaiga and finished off Naraku," Kagome explained. "She was still injured from when he tried to kill her, but seeing you on the ground gave her some hidden strength and she used your sword and destroyed him. But then she fell unconsious and hasn't come out."
"Her injuries?" he asked as a quiver came to his voice.
"Worse than yours," Miroku said. "Her demon healing ability is kicking in, but don't expect a warm welcome just yet." Meanwhile, Shippo sat at Yasha's bedside and held her hand. "C'mon, Yash," he said seriously. "You just gotta come through this! Think of Inuyasha and your friends. Let them bring you through this thing." He got no response from the young hanyou and sighed. She looked like she was sleeping and her long white mane of hair lay around her. He leaned over and kissed her small lips gently. "I love you," he whispered and left the room.
Inuyasha was forced not to see Yasha for two days. His healing ability soon helped him, but Yasha was still in her coma. Her injuries had fully healed, but she showed no sign of waking up. One afternoon, Inuyasha walked in the bedroom finally able to rid himself of his nagging friends and saw Yasha still asleep.
"Angel," he whispered his special nickname for her. "I know you can hear me. You have to pull through. I believe in you and so do your friends. Kagome hasn't even went home at all 'cause she's worried about you. You can do this. Just prove to them you're stronger than what you think." He grabbed her hand and held it when suddenly he felt her clawed fingers curl around his own and he looked at her to see two copper colored eyes open. "Yasha!" he said happily and she blinked and frowned.
"Papa?" she asked in confusion. "Is that you?" This confused him since he wondered if she remembered the battle or even him. "Yasha, is something wrong?" he asked. She sat up slightly and held a hand in front of her face. But he could tell her eyes had darted to another area and he frowned. "Is it nighttime already?" she asked seriously. "It's in the middle of the afternoon," he said and she shook her head. "Why did you think it was nighttime?" he asked. Yasha glanced up and her eyes moved to the side of his face instead of the direct stare she usually gave him when he directed a question at her.
"Papa, it's dark in here," she said flatly. "It can't be in the middle of the afternoon." "Yasha, the sun's out and everything's awake," he protested. "Is something wrong?" Miroku asked and Inuyasha nodded. "Miroku, look at her eyes," he said and the monk knelt down then. "Yasha, you're staring over my shoulder, not at me," he said. He turned her head in the right direction and examined her eyes. "You're right," he said finally. "Yasha, stay here. Papa and I need to talk." "Sure," she said. "I'll figure things out alone."
"I think it's best if you told her here," Inuyasha said sternly and the monk hesitated. One upset hanyou was trouble, but add another and you were asking for hell. "Miroku, what is wrong with me?" Yasha asked nearloutiouting her question. "It would appear that you're blind," Miroku said finally and Yasha raised one eyebrow. "Blind," Inuyasha repeated like he was about to clobber the monk for even saying the word and Miroku jumped back before that happened. The male hanyou stormed off without another word.
Later, Yasha sat in the main room during dinner unusually silent. Usually, she was the talker of the bunch, but she had other things on her mind. Suddenly, it dawned on her why she was blind. "Papa, I know what happened!" she shouted suddenly causing Sango and Kagome to jump in shock. Inuyasha frowned then. "Talk to us," Sango said. "It happened during the battle with Naraku when I kicked his butt," Yasha explained. "Before he died, I heard him say something like blinded or my final curse is on you. Anyway, I think that's why I'm like this! Naraku wanted to leave his mark before he died...and he chose me to bear his final curse." Inuyasha growled and she reeled back at the sound. "Well, you don't have to be so hasty," she grumbled. "Dammit, Yasha, why couldn't you have said this sooner?" he demanded. "Because...I just remembered it," she said in a weak tone. Then she regained her composure and stood up.
"Forget it," she said frowning while feeling her way with the walls. "Just face it. A blind half demon won't last five seconds out here. Not only that, it seems like one of you is more in revenge mode than helping me out." She walked outside followed by Shippo for protection purpose. "Why the hell did you have to do that to her?" Miroku demanded. "She's already depressed because of what happened and now you seem more ready to tear a dead Naraku to pieces all over again when she's the main one hurting from all this!" Kagome had remained silent until then. "There might be a way to bring her eyesight back, but she'd have to come to my world for it," she said.
Three pairs of eyes stared at her in shock then. "My mother had a friend who was blind and had a special surgery that saved her eyesight," she explained. "She doesn't even need glasses and she feels a lot better. Perhaps if I talk to my mom with Inuyasha and explain the situation, maybe we can save her." "I'm glad Kaede put a spell on her so she can pass through the well as well," Inuyasha said. "Let's go now."
