A New Begining. Another Battle.

Yadadada copy right Inu Yasha and the Inu Yasha characters to their owners, yadadada, my own characters to me (Fred Schiedenhelm). Poor slacker. Don't sue.

Tale of the Brother Blades : Chapter One

A New Begining. Another Battle.

"We've been traveling on this road for days, Kagome. *When* are we going to find these shards you've been sensing?" Barked Inu Yasha from his position in the lead. Days of wandering down what could barely be considered a road carrying her 'bi-cyc was was begining to annoy him. The fact Miroku had groped Sango again just that morning and that the two were still arguing about it were not helping things. "My hand had slipped, I was merely correcting some of your clothing that was askew." The half demon could hear the slayer practically growl at him. "Slipped! Slipped! Tell me Miroku, how does a hand slip *up*?!" Inu Yasha glanced back to his left to see it seemed Kagome was waiting for the two to stop before speaking. "Will you two shut up so she'll tell me where the damned shards are?!" Everyone in the group flinched, including the napping (now awoken) Shippo whom fell from the bike's basket and into Kagome's arms. She looked like she might have been about to glare at him, then sighed instead with a shake of her head.

"North, Inu Yasha. I know they are there. Maybe just over the next hill-" "You said that about thirty hills ago." He interupted. Kagome's brows went in, and her voice raised to match that of Inu Yasha's. "If *you* want the shards then you better follow me! Unless you can sense them, *and* purify them!" Inu Yasha stared at her a moment thruntrunted and continued on down the road with the others in tow. As they crested the next hill, all were relieved to see that a village lay none too far away. "Maybe theres an in or someone will let us stay, it's been a while since we've slept in *anythinhat hat could remotely be called shelter." Kagome said with her excitement leaking into her voice. "I agree. I wouldn't mind seeing a place to sit down and have a nice fresh meal, perhaps a bit of a.. k, ok, on the side.." Miroku commented. "I like the forest just fine, it's quiet, it's- Hey! Where are you going!" He shouted at the group as they started off down the hill, leaving him to catch up.

He was still muttering when they reached the village which was alive with activity. "Inu Yasha, just drop it already." Kagome glanced over at him, and he promptly looked away and grunted. The group watched silently as this went on, with Kagome reaching a hand into her back pack and taking out a pack of instant noodles. "I'll make you sooooooooooodles." Her hand shook the bag a little, and Inu Yasha's ears twitched instantly. ".. Alright, but it better be soon." She beamed before stuffing the pack back away and started walking along again with him in tow. Used to it by now, the others merely followed along. "I don't see a bar.." Said Miroku as they drifted into the village. "Or an Inn.." Kagome commented with a sigh. "I suppose the village isn't big enough.. Or they have no need." "A shame.. Yetm sum sure they wouldn't mind a small camp set by the village center, perhaps a little.. Goods, to ease their thoughts. Not hard to get, with just a little time.." "Miroku, if they don't want us to, we'll just move."

"Besides, it's not as though they will attack with Inu Yasha nd. nd. The ears and bright clothing, not to mention the sword, point him out easily as not being human." He wasn't sure whether to be complimented or insulted so he merely let the comment pass. "You have a point.. Should we set up camp?" "Lets! I'm getting hungry myself and a nice bowl of hot noodles would really hit the spot right now." Walking along, they set up camp near what seemed the center of town. Staying off to the side a few sleeping bags were laid out and Kagome started to boil water for the noodles with her camping equipment. After what seemed to be a small feast of noodles, everyone in the group was settled in by the first hints of evening coming in. Aside from the occausional glances or stares, the group had not been bothered by those in the village at all. "We should get some rest. Move out in the morning." Inu Yasha announced. For once, everyone agreed with him. He leaned with his back to a nearby hut and closed his eyes, drifting off.

******************************************

"Inu.. Inu? Wake up Inu Yasha." Kagome whispered, nudging him to rouse from his slumber. "What is it.. It's not even morning yet." He mumbled as his eyes openned, shifting his gaze to her. "I feel that something is wrong.." Inu Yasha thought about this for a moment. "Better wake everyone up. Just in case." He got back up to his feet, stretching out his body and cracking a few of his joints. "Inu..." Kagome whispered in an suprised low voice, turned to face the center of the town. "What is it now-" His voice cut off as he turned, a look of suprise sweeping over his own face. Hovering a good distance in the air above the town was a soft purple light. "Kagome, is that a-" "It's a jewel shard, but where did it come from?" "I don't know.." He sniffed at the air and growled. There was no scent of Naraku.. But the scent of demons was in the air, and it was thick. "Wake up!" He barked loudly at the group whom were resting blissfully, until he spoke. "What is it, one of us lay on a bit your kimono? Just trying to sleep.." Said a certain sleepy kitsune in a belated sort of voice. "GET UP! DEMONS!"

He was jumping through the air, across roof tops before they even arose. Over the tree tops it wasn't hard to the the swarms that were starting to roll in : It wasn't normal, even Inu knew that. Typically one demon would have the shard, or some unwitting fool, and they'd have to get it.. But this time.. 'Why is one shard drawing so many damned demons!?' He thought to himself as he ran out to meet the first wave. 'I can't even cut the wind scar because of the village!' Inu Yasha growled as he glanced around himself for any demons he'd recognize then ran out to meet one of the incoming waves with ready claws. "You won't get through me you bastards!" He ripped through the swarm before him with claws barred, shredding the weaklings before his claws. The demons as one by one weren't hard at all. But there were so damned many of them, he'd broken into a light panting by the time he reached the end of the first stream. And he hadn't even gotten them all! Looking back he saw some of the bastards had just broke and gone around him.

Just past him he could see the pale purple flashes of Kagome's arrows streaking into the darkness and the demons around them. A series of flames dancing across the night sky was most certainly Kirara and her mount Sango, but there was no sign of Miroku in the battlescape. But he knew as soon as the wind tunnel openned up, he'd be seeing it. Preferably from a distance. Taking after the stray demons that escaped his first attack, it seemed they'd be able to handle it. But it would still be a close one. He wasn't much concerned about the demons : Just the number. And if one of them got the shard, with a village right beneath them.. His claws tore into demon that was speeding towards the shard and he came to land gracefully on the roof of a hut, thankfully not falling through it. 'Movement!' Inu Yasha turned his head to see armed and lightly armored humans running from various huts. 'Finally, some help. Even if they are pretty weak.." Inu Yasha watched with growing aggravation as they all came to the center of town and stood around a central larger hut. "Hey you idiots! Go help your village!" A few guards looked at him. None moved. The half breed growled then looked at Kagome whom was running out of arrows, and then took off.

The humans guards were worthless and even with the other's help, it was going to be a damned hard time taking care of all those demons before they got to the shard. That wasn't counting keeping them from hurting those that inhabited the village. "This insane! Where are they all coming from!" Inu growled as he split another demon right down the center getting more and more bits stuck under his claws. Some of the demons had hit the streets now and the villagers were in a full and utter panic as the group fought on bravely but soon the salty scent of blood, human blood was clouding the air. "Damn it! This whole village if falling in around our ears! We'll win, but we'll be the only ones alive!" His frustration was reaching a breaking point just as he sawethiething that made his breath catch in his throat out of th ecorner of his eye.
Someone was running along the village roads and between the huts cutting down any demon it ran across with flashes of white pale moonlight on a shining blade.. But there was something else. "Sesshomaru?!" Inu Yasha quickly sniffed at the air, trying to catch the scent of the mysterious warrior.

"No.. It isn't.. Can't be his scent." He turned just in time to dispatch a demon that tried to attack him in his moment of suprise then cursed as one seemed right about to grab the shard. "Damn you!" His suprise grew ever higher as something lept up from the ground then obliterated the demon with a swipe of a sword of some kind. It could have easily grabbed the shard : But it ignored it as if it wasn't there. Dropping from above with sword still drawn it vanished from sight oncain ain behind a series of huts. "I don't recognize it's scent.. What hel hell? It ignored the shard like a pebble!" Far away as it was Inu Yasha could hear the sounds of Miroku's wind tunnel openning up and sucking demons into their oblivion. With a turn of the head, he could see that Sango had picked him up and they were both dispatching demonds from the air, the battle was quickly starting to turn tides now that the monk had a good vantage point and with the help of thatehatever it was cutting down the enemy.. It was helping. It still made him uneasy.

From his left there was a sudden movement : It was the same direction he'd last spotted it. Before he even finished turning it lept at him with a blade ready to cut him down, not a sound coming from it's lips in the attack. "Scum! I'll get rid of rid of you too!" Inu Yasha roared as he started to draw his blade from it's sheath for a sweeping attack. At the last moment with a sudden realization he turned flat side of the heavy blade and struck his attacker square in the forehead with it, knocking him down hard into the ground. A stunned Inu Yasha watched the unconscious form for a moment then jumped from his perch atop a hut. Landing at the feet of what he now recognized as a person, even he couldn't help but stare. It was just a boy.

( Opions? Love it? Hate it? Review and tell me what is what please. I hope you enjoyed this, I think I write battles poorly however. I apologize for any spelling errors, I raI ran it by a friend. If it's terrible, blame her, and the fact my imagination and writing abilities work best when sleep deprieved, and both my eyes are on the verge of going cross. Thank you. )
