Chapter Two: Black and Blue

___________________________________________________________________

Sesshoumaru stepped outside through the front door. Veiled by darkness,
he walked a few paces away from his doorstep and stopped. The damp
night wind rushed up to meet him.

He opened up his senses, listening, straining to catch that sound he heard
only moments ago. Several minutes passed by but all that harkened upon his ears was the
eerie thrum of evening crickets. Patiently he waited, his curiosity growing
with each passing second. Patience paid off as another distant shrill cry hit his
senses for a split second before it was cut off, almost as if it had been
smothered by something. He looked at the house across the paved street.
The sound had come from that direction. It had come from that house.

He frowned in thought while trying to discern the reason for the female's sharp
cry. Perhaps the young one and her hanyou mate were.....enjoying themselves.

Something bothered the inu youkai. The smothered cry did not sound like
an expression of passion.... It sounded more like a shriek of pain.

After a minute of debate, Sesshoumaru let curiosity guide him. He rose silently
to hover just above the dark tree tops. Sailing without sound
in the quiet breeze of twilight, he slowly floated across the road, carefully
masking his presence from the hanyou.

A series of moans and impatient grunts led him to an open window on the second
floor of the house.

Quietly, he alighted on a large branch of an ancient oak
which stood about ten yards from the house. From this position, he had a good view
of the dimly lit room. One lone lamp gave shadows, allowing him to make out
a dresser by the far wall and a night table close to the window.
It was obviously a bedroom for he could see the edge of a bed along side
the night table.

Noises of mating assaulted his ears. Sesshoumaru grimaced. He had no
desire to peep in on another couple's copulation. Just as he was about to rise
and end this ridiculous excursion, a faint female's voice caught his attention.
He stopped, instantly becoming still and listened, his sights focused on the
shadowed room.

"It hurts, please, I don't want to do that..."

A male voice, the hanyou's, hissed in agitation, "You will do what I want you
to do or I will throw your little friend in the trash!"

The girl whimpered. "Yes, Father."

Sesshoumaru froze. The girl had called the hanyou father? Impossible!
There was no correlation in their scents to tie the two together as family,
much less father and daughter. Either these two were playing some sick sex
game or the girl was severely misinformed.

The girl's whimpers elevated to painful sobs. The smell of pain and human blood
invaded his senses, causing his hackles to rise. A strange knot welled up
in his stomach when he heard the girl let out a pleading wail, "Pleeeaasssee.....
Daddy....Pleeaasseee.....It hurts!..."

Her sharp cry was muffled and the female's scent intensified to agony.

The hanyou growled in building rage, "I told you not to scream! Now
stay still!"

The dampened cries mixed with salty tears. Suddenly, a muzzled scream
ripped the air the same instant the hanyou let out a long grunt of pleasure.

Sesshoumaru's nostrils flared at the very offensive combination of intense
pain, human blood and half demon seed.

The knot that had been growing in his stomach threatened to purge itself.

As the hanyou's groans of pleasure slowed to erratic calming breaths, the girl's
sobs died to quiet whimpers.

A few seconds later, something heavy hit the wooden floor with a loud thud followed
by a low feminine yelp.

There was a faint rustling.

Light footfalls padded away then paused.

The shadow of a male figure rose from the bed. Sesshoumaru could
plainly make out the tall male's bare silhouette. Long black hair cascaded
over broad shoulders and a well toned back.

The girl's voice quivered on the wind, "Father....can I....have something to..
eat now?"

Sesshoumaru watched the figure bend down and pick something up from the floor.
By the shadow, it looked like a boot.

The hanyou abruptly pitched the object to the hidden side of the room.
It struck something soft. The young girl yelped again.

As the hurried padding of bare feet faded out of earshot, the hanyou snarled
out a yell. "Get out!"

That damned knot in his stomach had grown into an almost unbearable nuisance.
He had heard enough. Sesshoumaru returned home.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sesshoumaru stood looking out the large tinted window in his front room, sipping
a cup of coffee and staring at the average two story white house across the road.
The morning sun crept over the pines, giving light to the ironically
peaceful looking home.
He stood there thinking....just thinking....contemplating what his ears
and eyes had witnessed only a few hours ago.
As the echo of the young female's sobs invaded his reflections, that damned
knot welled up once more, nauseating him and angering him because he did
not know what this feeling was.
Sesshoumaru detested this new emotion to an immeasurable degree. He was a full blooded
demon damn it. He was not suppose to......feel.
He knew the girl's desperate words and begging whimpers had something to do with it.
They tore through his mind and spirit like a jagged knife.
Something extremely hot scalded his right hand. Sesshoumaru looked down to
see only pieces left of his favorite coffee mug in his clenched fist.
He opened his hand and let the shards of porcelain fall to the carpet.
With a rare sigh, he shook his head. What other people did in the privacy of
their own homes was none of his business. What that human and hanyou did
in their intimate private time was definitely none of his business.
But......
Then.....
Why.....?
Why did her quivering words of desperation blister their way into his thoughts?
Why did it make him so.....sick....to recall the scent of her agony?
Why did her cries of despair and pain echo in his spirit?
Why did the young girl's tears torment him?
Why did she.....haunt him?
Sesshoumaru grimaced. This was pointless.
What was he doing?
"Spying on the neighbors."
Such an uncouth thing to do.
Feeling quite irritated with himself, Sesshoumaru prepared to find something
else to occupy his thoughts. Before he left the vigilant watch, a movement
caught his eye. A tall dark male emerged from the house and shut the front door.
It was the hanyou. In the morning light, he could see the half demon more
clearly. Indeed, he did have long black hair and it was pulled up in a neat
ponytail. The hanyou wore a very expensive grey business suit. Keys jangled in
his right hand as he walked over to a brand new black SUV. The half demon
got in the vehicle and pulled out of the driveway.
For a long while Sesshoumaru gazed at the house. In the far reaches of his mind,
a part of him wondered about the wisp of a girl who lived there.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Rin twitched in her sleep before jerking up suddenly, gasping for air.
The nightmare blackened her sight in raw terror. Her father had been....
hurting her again. She could still feel his tightening grip around her throat and his
throbbing length tearing into her body.

Rin breathed long calming breaths, trying to regain control of her racing heart.
When the shaking subsided, her body began to relax. She groaned loudly
and laid back down.

Tears blurred her vision. God, how she would love to have a bath right now,
to immerse herself in the hot water and float away, losing herself in the warmth.
Her body ached so badly. Why did he have to do that? Why did he have to hurt her....
that way? ...Why did he have to push his..... up her.......? That way hurt.....
Why couldn't he do it the normal way?

Rin shuddered with the memory, wishing she could erase the pain and misery from
her body.

She closed her eyes, willing sleep to come and carry it all away.

Rin did not know how long she slept but her stomach pulled her
from the land of dreams, her only comfort.

She opened her eyes and blinked up at the small window far above her bed.

Sunlight, bright and warm, floated across the empty air. It must be near noon.

Rin sat up wearily, ignoring the stabs of pain from her bottom. By painful
degrees, she got out of bed and eased over to the small dresser. After
pulling out a clean pair of panties and a worn pink summer dress, she moved
slowly to the bathroom. She reached the sink, turned on the hot water and then
proceeded to undress. Rin was not surprised to see the amount of blood clotted to
her cotton underwear as she removed them. Naked and shivering, Rin soaked a soft
hand cloth under the hot running water. Tenderly, she rubbed the warm cloth
over every inch of her body, paying extra attentive care around her sore lower
regions.

Finally finished with the task, she dressed and returned to her bed. For
the next hour, she rested until her stomach gurgled. It felt very hollow.
Again, she went to the bathroom to cup her hands under the cool water of the
tap and drank until her stomach was full.

Feeling better, Rin ventured out into the basement. A sharp pain in her gut
brought her to her knees. She gasped and clenched her eyes shut, waiting for the
cramp to pass. The gnarled feeling subsided. Rin stood and looked around
despondently.

She needed food. It would be another three days wait and she
did not know if she could hold out that long. Where could she find something
to eat? Rin mulled over the possibilities. The kitchen was off limits but...the woods.
It was too early in the summer for berries or fruit trees. Maybe she could
find some bird eggs or...... a sudden idea popped in her head. The pond!
The pond at the neighbor's was fed by a small stream. The stream flowed into
one side of the backyard, fed the pond, then flowed out the other side under the
fence. If she could follow that stream deeper into the woods, away from the neighbors
house, she may find another pond. That pond might have fish!

A plan formed. Rin searched the boxes in the basement and found what she was looking
for: a round fishing net with a metal handle, big enough to catch
a good sized fish in. Father had not been fishing in years. He wouldn't miss it.
She hoped. Taking the net and new plan of hope, Rin climbed the wooden crates
under the basement window and squeezed through the small exit.

Rin dared not even go near the neighbor's house. Instead, she walked into the
woods by her house and down the small worn path. Like the day before, she
walked a good distance through the woods away from both houses.
Moving gently, Rin walked across the pavement to the tree line on the other side of
the road.

Rin found the worn pathway that led to the neighbors house. She stepped
on the path and stopped, listening. After several moments, she heard what
she was hoping to hear: the trickle of water.

Smiling, Rin padded along the soft, quiet pine needles toward the sound.

Minutes later, she found the stream and followed it in the opposite direction
of the neighbor's house. Her smile grew. Luck was on her side. The stream
opened up to a sizeable blue-green pond surrounded by large rocks and hanging
trees that enclosed the entire pool in private seclusion. Rin stepped lightly
through the tall grass and to the water's edge. She looked down into the
clearness and almost squealed out loud. Fish! And nice sized ones too!
If she could catch just one with her net, Rin knew she could find a way
to cook it. Her mouth watered at the very thought of cooked fish.

Rin stepped back from the pool. She would have to get in the water to catch
one. If she got her clothes wet, then her father would know that she had
been outside. After gently laying the net on the ground, Rin reached down and
clutched the hem of her dress, then.....stopped. A strange feeling prickled the
hairs on the back of her neck. Carefully turning in a slow circle, she scanned
the woods. Nothing. Just shade, trees, and moss. Shrugging, Rin turned back
to her intended task and slowly pulled the dress off over her head.
Warm summer wind, slightly cooled by the shade of leaves, whispered on her
bare skin. She sighed, picked up the net, walked to the water, then waded in.
The cold water came up to her thighs. Little goosebumps popped up all over her
skin. Rin scanned the pebbled bottom. Several fish darted around her feet.

It did not take long to catch one. After a few tries of sloshing around, she
finally cornered a medium sized fish in a nook of rocks then swept it up in
the net. Grinning, Rin waded out of the water, put the net with the fish in it
down and pulled her dress over her head.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sesshoumaru stepped out of the shower dripping wet, grabbed the towel hanging
on a hook nearby and began to dry off. He went to his bedroom and picked out
something casual from the closet, khaki dress pants and a white button-up shirt. There
was no need to be formal today. He would not be having any visitors unless his
half-breed of a brother and human Miko girlfriend decided to pop in unannounced.
After getting dressed, he went to the kitchen to prepare something for lunch.
It was close enough to noon and he had not eaten breakfast. For some
reason his appetite had been diminishing since last night. As he searched
the fridge for something that would spark an interest in food, his thoughts
suddenly betrayed him once more.
~'Can I...have...something to eat now?'~
"K'so!" He slammed the refrigerator door shut. Why did that girl have to worm her
way into his world? He cursed himself. No. It was his own fault for being
too damned curious last night.
The knot of nausea that had decided to remain flared anew, growing into
something that felt like an aching chunk of lead. It was really becoming
quite irritating.
What was wrong with him?
No...he needed to resolve this. Maybe some light meditation in the garden.
Yes, that might help ease this......this.....feeling.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
An hour passed as he strolled along the garden's stone pathways. The wind
picked up, bringing the smell of decayed wood and fallen leaves from the nearby
forest. The woodsy smell mingled with the vast assortment of the surrounding
flowers drifted in his direction. He inhaled deeply, catching every tiny speck of early summer's serenity.
His relaxation was interrupted. A familiar scent tingled his senses,
the scent that had burned itself into his memory,
the scent that he could not forget even if he wanted to.
It was her..... that girl.....nearby......
Sesshoumaru gave a calm look at the trees on the other side of the wooden fence.
She was close and on his property.
He jumped up and sailed silently through the trees, staying high above the
ground.
A few minutes later, he found the little trespasser.
Quietly, the inu youkai settled on a thick branch of a nearby pine.
He saw the wisp of a girl. She was standing by a small pond wearing a rather short,
faded, pink dress and holding a medium sized net. Her bare feet padded almost
silently as she backed up from the water's edge.
For some reason, he did not want to make his presence known, not yet. Curiosity stayed
his position. What was she doing?
He watched, quite curious, as the girl placed the net on the ground then straightened.
The girl reached down and grasped the hem of her short dress then stopped.
She turned a full circle, scanning the woods with wary eyes. Her brows rose
as she shrugged before she turned to face the pool once
again.
This had gone on long enough. The girl was trespassing on his property. She needed
to leave. Just as he was about to jump down and surprise the female, he stopped,
frozen.
The girl was.....lifting her dress?
Oh, No! This slip of a female was not....was not going for a sneaky little
swim on his land! But for some reason, his feet remained planted to the
large pine branch.
He watched the pink dress rise in slow motion, every inch of his body leaning
forward, waiting, curious.
Thin legs of milky white came into view leading to small, petite hips and
lacy pink underwear. He was unprepared for what was shown to him next as
the girl lifted the dress and exposed her back. He could not move as the image
burned itself into his sight. His heart stopped for a full second. He forgot to breathe.
The dog demon swallowed the painful lump in his throat, pushing
with all of his draining inner strength, the knot of agony that had grown to
the size of a bowling ball in his gut.
Her skin....the skin on her back was......
Sesshoumaru swallowed again, a strange desire to close his eyes and look away taunting him
in his shock.
There were so many; some large, some small, some faded. Some were a deep dark horrendous
shade of blue, others, pitch black circles with sickly ashen yellow rings.
And.....
He blinked, straining to see from the distance.
And there were......
red.....crusty......scratches......from her neck to her.....
Long brown hair fell, hiding the brutality from his view.
He closed his eyes with the unaccustomed need to steady himself.
What had that damned hanyou done to her?
