Kagome’s face filled with surprise. She sat on the ground, eye to eye with the little fox. Although she had realized his sudden desperation to keep her there, she never figured he’d go this far.
“Shippou! What... I mean...umm...” She searched for words that would neither enrage or crush him. “You can’t be here!e fie finally spit out. “You need to go back.”
“Kagome”, he squeaked. He shot her a childish pout. “I’m already here. Can’t I stay?”
Kagome became flustered. She wanted to come home to forget about her “quest”. She didn’t need to fight with this little kitsune. “You know you can’t stay. Just go back. They’ll all wonder where you went to.”
“No they won’t!”

“I wonder where Shippou went off to?” Sango slowly surveyed the area.
“Feh... probably picking flowers or something stupid like that.” Inuyasha leaned against a tree.

“Well either way, you can’t stay here. You just can’t.”
“Kagome, please. I won’t get in your way at all. I promise.” He nearly batted his eyelashes at her.
Kagome let out a gruff sigh. ‘What harm could he do?’ thouthought. She looked at him reluctantly. Part of the reason she was considering letting him stay involved not wanting to see Inuyasha. Right now staying away from him, was more important than bringing Shippou back.
“Fine.” she gave in. “BUT, you have to promise me you will stay out of trouble.” Before he could reply she continued. “AND, you have to leave me alone to catch up on my schoolwork.”
“Whatever you say Kagome!” He beamed at her. He could usually get Kagome to give him his way. He had her wrapped around his finger.
“Well, it’s getting late. I want to get to bed so I can be well rested for school tomorrow.” Shippou bounced along after her. He was barely listening. He was just pleased that he was in Kagome’s time. If he had been able to reach, he would’ve patted himself on the back.
Kagome picked Shippou up and carried him quietly to her room. It was already late and she didn’t want to wake her family. She knew Shippad aad a tendency to get a tad loud. She wanted him close in case he felt the need to raise his voice. She placed him on her bed.
“I’m going to change into my nightclothes. DON’T TOUCH ANYTHING!” Shippou winced at the harshness of her words.
“I thought you were afraid I’d wake everyone up.” Kagome just flashed him a playful smile. She wandered into the bathroom to change. A few seconds later her bare feet scampered across the floor. She sat gingerly at the corner of her bed and set her alarm clock. She glanced over at Shippou. He seemed to enjoy her bed. He laid in a small ball, his tail wrapped tightly around himself. Kagome quickly slipped under the covers and pulled them up to her chin. Shippou stirred a bit.
“Goodnight, Shippou.” Kagome whispered.
“Night...”, he paused, “Kagome?”, he said sleepily. “You love Inuyasha right?” Kagome’s eyes flew open. She tried to suppress her discomfort.
“UM, why would you say that?” Kagomemmermmered a bit, not really knowing what to say. “I mean... of coarse I care about him. But...”
“I think you love him.” He gave a small yawn. His eyes still nonchalantly closed.
“Well...like I said, I care for Inuyasha.”
“Kagome. I may be small, but I am not blind.” The words trickled from his mouth with a wisdom and confidence that left Kagome speechless. “Anyway, you shouldn’t worry.” She waited for him to continue. He didn’t
“Why? Why shouldn’t I worry?” She asked with a bit of anticipation. Shippou could tell she was obviously interested in what he had to say.
“I thought all you felt towards him was caring friendship?” She blushed. “Just don’t worry Kagome.” He wriggled a bit, trying to find a comfortable position. He looked like a fluffy cat. He yawned as Kagome’s exhaustion overtook her curiosity. Just before she drifted off, she heard his mumbled words. “No worries...he loves you too...I know it.”
