The Skaters Edge

I looked over at my boss and InuYasha’s ex lover, and she looked like she was ready to explode. Her face was bright red with rage and it was all directed at me. ‘Oh great, now I have to deal with the boss from hell.’ I turned my head away and that put my face in direct relation with InuYasha’s chest.







I heaved a sigh and tried to extract myself from his embrace. He was having none of this though. I looked up at him only to see his red rimmed eyes staring down at me. He started purring and took his hand from the small of my back to touch my cheek. He must have understood how hard this was for me and he backed away slowly, like he was trying not to scare me.







“I will be back a bit later princess. I have to go pick up Miroku and we’ll be back by the end of the session. Fluffy should show up too, with the end of the races taking place this afternoon.” He put his helmet on and hopped onto his bike. I started to walk to the front of the door when his voice stopped me.







“I love you Kagome, don’t you ever forget it. I will make it up to you if it’s the last thing I do and I WILL make you my mate.”







I blushed prettily and started to go through the door that Kaede was still holding. She had a small smile on her face while she watched what had happened. Kikyo was just fuming and as I walked through the doors, I heard her yell at InuYasha.







“You are mine Inu baby, don’t you forget it. I won’t let that little tramp have you.”







I heard the screech of tires and the sound of silence as the engine of the bike was cut short. I decided I was going to keep walking through the entrance way and not get involved in this. I was already up to my neck with emotional turmoil and I didn’t need to deal with this right before work. I set my things on the counter and heard an earth shattering howl and I could smell burning flesh.





I dropped what I was doing and my feet carried me out the door only to witness Kikyo standing over InuYasha with her hand raised and the purple glow of purification coming from her hand. She meant to kill him, that’s all I could think. I screamed and ran towards them.







“STOP KIKYO!!!! YOU’LL KILL HIM!!!!” She looked at me with a wicked gleam in her eyes. It wasn’t until that moment that I noticed that her shirt was slashed open at the front.







“Take your last look at this abomination because he’s is going to die, here and now. He’s so pathetic… He didn’t even know I was cheating on him the whole time we were together. He’s such an idiot. Now it’s time to take what’s mine so you can’t have his name and money, that was meant for me and if I can’t have it. NO ONE WILL!!!”







She started bringing her power to an all time high as I reached the scene and threw myself over the prone form of my would be lover. I was sobbing so hard I couldn’t even focus on what was happening. Apparently my barrier of youkai laced power was enough to stop the evil Miko because in one second she was before me… The next second she was thrown across the sidewalk and laying in a pile at the entrance of the rink.







“Are you alright?” I asked him shakily. I looked down at him and he was singed around the edges and his leather jacket was smoking. I pushed his bangs slowly out of his eyes as he looked at me with a half lidded crooked smirk.







“I’m…. (Cough) fine princess… (Cough) I wouldn’t let that cunt call you names. She’s the whore, not you my precious mate.” He continued to cough and I saw blood as he lay in my arms. I hugged him to my chest and he proceeded to pass out. She must have really gotten him good if he was in this condition. She probably should have killed him with her first blast but apparently the Taisho blood was a lot stronger that she thought.







“I’ll be right back baby… I am going to go call Miroku.” I took off my coat and wadded it up as a make shift pillow and took his head from my lap and laid him down on it. I proceeded to run into the rink at a fevered pace.







“Kaede!!! Kikyo just tried to kill InuYasha. I don’t know what happened but she is unconscious out at the entrance along with him. I am going to call his buddy right now to come on over and get him. I’m pretty sure he is fine but I don’t exactly know what I did to her. She was going to kill him…” I tapered off as I got to the phone as I watched her move as fast as she could out to the entrance of the building.







Kikyo sat up slowly as her sister came into view. ‘What happened?’ she thought to herself. She shook her head to get out the fuzziness but for the life of her she couldn’t remember what just happened. ‘Why am I laying out here and who the hell is that?’ she looked over to the prone form of the man on the ground.







“Kikyo, are you unharmed?” She saw her sister rushing towards her. She knew she wasn’t remembering something important.







“I’m fine Kaede. Who is the young man over there? Is he ok? I would hate for someone to get hurt at our rink. I don’t know what happened. The last thing I remember is dinner with Uncle. What’s going on?”







“I do not know what to say. We have not had a dinner with our uncle in over 3 years Kikyo. It is hard for me to fathom that you have lost that much memory.” She was contemplating slowly what might have happened to her sister. She had a thought that perhaps Kagome may have inadvertently triggered the amnesia in her system. ‘I don’t believe Kagome would have known how to accomplish such a feat, she is untrained after all.’ She would ponder this at another time.







“Do you want an ambulance sister?”







“No, I am fine and I have to get ready for regional’s anyway. Let’s get inside.” She said to her sister as she moved to stand. She started to make her way over to the injured man as Kagome came out of the entrance. She saw that the girl had on the uniform of the rink but for the life of her, she couldn’t remember this girl. She had a beautiful aura surrounding her though and she seemed very pure.







“Hi there! My name is Kikyo; it is a pleasure to meet you. I don’t think we have had the opportunity to meet. My sister must have just hired you without telling me. ” She said as she stuck out her hand towards the young lady that came out of the entrance. She smirked to her sister in a teasing fashion.



Kagome was just dumbstruck as she looked from Kikyo to Kaede and then back again. She didn’t know what to make of this so she went along with it for the moment.







“I’m Kagome… It’s nice to meet you Kikyo-san. I am going to attend to InuYasha while we wait for Miroku and Sesshomaru. If you will excuse me please.” She bowed slightly to the ladies and continued on to see to InuYasha. He was starting to come to again and she could see that he was no longer smoking and appeared to be healing as the bruises and cuts she had witnessed earlier were disappearing.







“What the fuck!?!?!” he started to try to stand, only to have the hand of his mate gently reprimand him to stay in the laying position he was in. He started growling as he saw Kikyo starting to walk over towards him and his Kagome.





“Excuse me sir? Are you ok? Would you like any further assistance from us? I know your mate here said that she called your brother and friend but I wouldn’t want you to think that we here at the Skaters Edge do not take injury seriously.” She said sincerely as she reached the couple.







He looked to Kagome with the same puzzled expression that she had given Kaede a moment ago. She shook her head at him in indication that he should just go with it.







“I’m fine, don’t worry about it. I won’t sue or anything.” He said now as he resisted the urge to rip this woman to shreds. ‘She must not even remember who I am’ he thought as he was wondering if this was a god send. It would help him get past it as well as allowing Kagome to cope.







“Go ahead and go inside for some water Kikyo; I am going to speak to our patron for a moment.” Kaede said as she walked over and ushered her sister into the rink. She returned just a moment later with a puzzled look upon her features.







“Kagome, I think you have inadvertently wiped my sisters’ memories from the last 4 years away. I don’t exactly know what you did, but I’m pretty sure she thinks she is about to go to regional’s. This is where she got hurt, as you know. Please come inside as soon as you can though since we are so short handed today. We have to get set up for the session so please be fast about it.” She turned to leave the confused couple sit on the ground.





For Kagome’s part, she was dealing with this pretty well. She actually thought Kikyo was being nice. She was pretty sure that she remembered a conversation with Kaede about how Kikyo didn’t become bitter until after her accident. Incidentally, she met InuYasha at that same regional’s, right before the performance that left her incapacitated and made her hang up her skates. She thought this might be a very good thing for now. She didn’t wish amnesia on her boss but she really looked like she might benefit from the situation.







She helped InuYasha up as she saw a silver BMW enter the parking lot. She just knew that this was Sesshomaru. Sure enough out stepped the god like creature and the passenger door opened to have the monk step out. They moved over to the couple slowly.







“I have to get inside. InuYasha I truly hope you are alright. I will see you all a little bit later today after the session for the races. I have to get to work. Please take care.” She started to move away and before she could second guess herself she planted a chaste kiss on the hanyou’s cheek before running inside to the sisters.







“You appear to be fine half breed. It appears that some of the situation has been taken care of. You must tread lightly with that one though.” Sesshomaru started walking back to his car.







“I’ll ride with you Sess, so hold up.” InuYasha started to walk and just about fell over. His best buddy came to his rescue and offered his shoulder. InuYasha took one last look at the rink and his bike and headed for his brother’s car. ‘I’ll be back shortly my sweet Kagome.’ He sighed to himself in hopes that this would be the beginning of his redemption.
