The Better Man

Chapter Nineteen


"Give it back."

Rin ran around the couch laughing, she'd grabbed the little black box out of his hand. She'd gotten tired of him constantly flipping through the pictures. As soon as she got interested in something he would change it. "No."

"I need that." He got off the couch extending his hand. He was a man he wasn't allowed to get up and change the channels manually. "Give it here."

Rin tried to run with it but he caught her around the waist. Laughter filled the air as he tried to reach for it with his free hand. She was barely able to keep it out his reach. She gasped when a hand reached up and grabbed her left breast. Her arms flew to her chest covering herself. "Yusuke."

"Don't grope her man." Kuwabara yelled at him from the kitchen.

"Should have given me the damn remote." Besides he'd been wondering what they felt like. He chuckled as he jumped back on the couch to begin channel surfing once more. The girl sat back down on the other end of the couch. He sighed when his body still remained at attention, having her moving against him had caused his body to react. He was still hard as he heard the other man slamming cabinets in the kitchen. "You might wanna leave them doors on you know."

"Shut up Yurameshi."

The phone rang stopping the detective from commenting, he reached over to pick it up. "Yeah, oh hey. No she isn't. What do you mean she didn't come home last night? Dammit." He slammed the phone down suprising everyone. It rang again, "YES!" He screamed into the reciever.

"Yusuke, this is Kurama. Hiei and I are on our way over, seems Yukina has gone missing and a ransom letter was left for you."

Kagome felt Rin grab her hand as the four bickered. Seemed both Keiko and Yukina had been captured and for their safe return Kagome and Rin were to be handed over. Kagome wasn't sure how Kanna knew that Rin was still alive. No doubt the Void Bitch was distressed to see that she had missed the young girl centuries ago.

Koenma had informed the men that there would be no trade. But the note had said that if they approached without the two girls in tow Keiko and Yukina would be killed. Kagome could see the distress all of them felt.

They were trying to figure out how to get the two girls back without going against Koenma's orders. Kagome felt Rin tugging on her arm and nodding for them to head to the bedroom. She followed her inside to see what she wanted. "Yes Rin."

"You want to go don't you, to save them?"

"Yes."

"Thought so, they won't take us. We will go alone." Rin ran over and put her shoes on. "Get your weapon, you will need it."

"How are we going to go without them? We don't know how to get to the Makai, from what I understand there is a portal. They will come after us the moment we step outside this apartment." Kagome grabbed her bow hoping Rin had a plan.

"Have you not payed attention Kagome? Have you not seen the little one and the pretty one? Earlier when they left, they used their energy to open up the doorway."

"What good does that do us? We don't have any youkai energy to open up a portal to the Makai." Kagome got a bad feeling when the girl grinned.

"Of course we do, its worth a try." Rin drew out the fans, they transformed in her hands. "Stand back please. The moment it opens go. They will sense it and try to stop us." She took a deep breath concentrating on opening a portal. The fans pulsed as she sent a wave of energy across the room. They collided forming a large X. It opened and she could see something on the other side. "Go."

Kagome took a deep breath hoping it would take them to the Makai, not to some foreign land. She felt the difference as soon as she crossed over. Rin hit her back as she came through, yelling was heard as the portal closed.


"Do you guys smell that?" Yusuke sniffed the air.

Hiei stopped talking and concentrated, "It's coming from the bedroom, smells like poison gas." He ran down the hall and opened the door in time to see Rin going through. He tried to walk in the room but the mist was too strong. "Dammit." Kuwabara tried to run past him, "Don't fool, if you go in any further you will die. If it's too strong for me, it will eat you alive in under a minute."

Kurama spoke from behind them, "Seems Rin is more than she seems, definitely craftier. Who would have believed that the energy contained in her weapons would be strong enough to open a portal."

"Yes and it would seem she pays attention more than she lets on. I'm willing to bet she has vast knowledge of youkai as well. We need to get to the Makai quickly." Hiei opened up his own portal, they had no idea where those two had ended up.

They went through the portal, Hiei went to work on locating everyone. He sensed Keiko and Yukina, seemed the other two girls had ended up very close to them. "By the time we reach them they will be at the arranged location."

"Then I suggest we waste no time in getting there." Kurama ran after Hiei, the other two following closely behind.


Kagome could sense Yukina in the building ahead of them. She hadn't taken her rosary off yet, no need to bring unwanted attention to herself. They ran across the clearing, the grass breaking under their feet. A few youkai attacked, Rin managed to dispose of them. She had to admit that Sesshoumaru had done well in teaching the girl how to defend herself.

The door opened up for them, they ran in knowing it was most likely a trap. Kagome could sense the four not far behind them now. They would be here shortly in case anything went wrong. She looked around to see a woman sitting on a chair.

The woman was youkai and had long blonde hair to her waist, very beautiful. The outfit she wore left nothing to the imagination. Her large breast were barely covered and only a small cloth covered her mound. She smiled sweetly at the two girls, "I was told you would come, good I wish to play."

"Wheres Yukina and Keiko?"

"Oh there will be no swap dear, the two you seek are now on their way to Kanna's. It was nothing more than a trap to lure you out and kill you. Upon examining your company, I believe I will try out my latest enchantment. There is two in your group that I wish to sample. They are close, I have a special place for you two back at my castle."

Kagome felt her body stiffened and begin to tingle, her hand tried to reach for the rosary. It wouldn't move, she saw Rin disappear. "Rin." Her world went black as she disappeared to follow behind the other girl.

"Something's happened." Hiei felt them disappear all of a sudden. He was the first to enter the building and see the woman. She was stunning but her eyes showed how dark her soul was. "Bitch where are they?"

"Good evening gentleman, I'm so glad you could make it." Her eyes roamed over the four now standing before her. Two of them would do nicely, she scowled as her eyes landed on Kuwabara and Kurama. "Pity, I don't like red heads." She flicked her hands at them.

"What?" Kurama felt his body shut down, "Hiei, I can't move."

"Release them you bitch." Hiei could feel them slowly begining to fade.

"I think not, they will prove to be excellent subjects in my latest experiment. I'm sure the two thats already gone through won't mind. Well not for long," Her laughter filled the air.
