A New Life For Two

Chapter Eighteen

They had a fire going, as the five sat around the blaze. There was some kind of animal resembling a pig roasting over the spit Kurama had made. Of course it had been Hiei that had brought dinner for the girls. Niether had thought about eating all day. Too much had happened but as soon as the meat started cooking they were starving.

Sango's eyes were searching the area and Kagome asked her what was wrong. "I'm just making sure Toutousai isn't anywhere near the camp." They didn't need the whole roast eaten before they got a chance to dig in.

Kagome smiled remembering the old demon. He was surely gone by now. He had a way of pissing people off. The food did smell good, she'd have to thank Hiei again later for being considerate. "I don't think he lived this long." A strong wind came tearing through the camp.

Landing a few feet away a few demons from the wedding appeared. This time in their regular clothing. The tall one with a mohawk smiled, "Evening blokes." He stammered when he saw the two girl. "Where are my manners? Didn't realise there were sheilas hanging about."

"They be the lucky ones." Jin smiled at the group showing two little fangs. Something squirmed in his hands. "Almost forgot I did." The little imp was screaming to be let down.

Kagome heard the shouting and looked in the wind demon's hand. Her eyes popped out of her head, Jaken! The man was holding him by his head no less. "Put him down right now."

Jin looked at the small girl. He brought the imp up eye level. "This thing, he was sneaking around not far from here he was."

"I said put him down." She grabbed her bow notching an arrow. "NOW." True she didn't really like the toad but Sesshomaru had become an ally towards the end. Jaken had been his servant so she'd make sure he wasn't hurt if only out of his Lord's memory.

"You be a strange one, not many like the wee green ones." He dropped the imp. Everyone stared at Kagome not sure why she was getting upset over an imp. The were nasty vile little creatures, most tended to serve others.

Sango had realized it was Jaken when Kagome had stood up to defend the little man. When he hit the ground she ran over to him. He had a few lumps on his head and a cut down his beak. She picked him up, "Who hurt him?"

"We haven't harmed him, he was found in that condition." Touya moved to walk around her and paused. He eyed the girl to make sure he wasn't mistaken.

Chu also noticed something different about the taijiya. "Well now, what do we have here. Thats a might interesting. If I'm not mistaken you've.." He was cut off.

"Say it and die." Sango had flames surrounding her aura. He quickly snapped his jaw shut. She turned her back on him and returned to Kagome carrying Jaken.

The imp slowly opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was Kagome smiling down at him. He jumped out of Sango's arms and bowed before the miko. "So it is true. I only dared to hope."

Her brow rose, "Uh, Jaken?"

"This Jaken has been looking for you Lady Kagome. I was traveling all by myself and heard that the miko and taijiya that had defeated Naraku were still alive and here in the Makai. So I came to offer you my services. I believe it is what my Lord would have wanted." He bowed to Sango also.

Kagome didn't know what to say. After all this was Jaken, the first time they'd met she'd been throwing skulls at his head. Not to mention the name calling. She'd saved his life a few times also, couldn't forget that. From the looks of him, the years hadn't been too kind. Not having his Lord had left the poor thing alone. He still had his staff with him, he may be of some use. He could always start the fires. "We really don't have need of a servant." At his slumped shoulders she continued. "But you are welcome to join us."

"What? You can't be seriously thinking about allowing that thing to join us." Yusuke yelled. He didn't trust the imp that suddenly decided to show up. "There's more of us than you two, we don't want him here."

"Shut up! Who asked you?" This came from Sango. Before any of them could react she walked over to Yusuke who simply stared at her. She reached down and proceeded to tear a piece of his shirt off. The white fabric tore easily under her hand. He opened his mouth, "There ya go make yourself useful. I'm sure you can catch Jaken a few flies if you leave your mouth open long enough."
Everyone laughed at them. She payed them no mind.

Jaken was shocked that the two women that had once been his enemies stood up to defend him. The exterminator bent down to clean the cut on his beak the best she could. "This Jaken thanks you."

"No need for thanks. Its good to see you. Now tell us what you have been doing with yourself." Kagome wanted to know about Rin to be honest. The girl had been left all alone after the death of Sesshomaru.

"I stayed with the child until she grew up and found a human mate. After she started her family, this Jaken left to wonder. I felt inclined to stay until then. She was under my protection while my lord was away."

"Yes, I remember. You must have done a great job if she lived to get married and start a family." Kagome felt the toad needed some praise. It was nice to see someone else from the past. "Jaken, can you tell us if everything was taken care of afterwards?"

His eyes rounded, "Yes, the old miko from the village saw to the burials. Rin and I attended the services. She even placed a marker for my lord. We didn't know what had become of you two since your bodies were never found. This Jaken is trully glad to see you again. I'd even let you throw things at me."

"No need for that. Not this time anyways." Sango felt a weight lift from her shoulders. So the burials had been seen to. She needed to go to the bathroom. "Kagome wanna come with me?"

"Sure, I could use the privacy. Jaken would you mind coming and keeping guard for us?" She got to her feet, she had to go also.

"Of course my lady. I will protect you with my life." He puffed up his chest, swelling with pride. He'd be proud to serve the two women. They were strong even his lord had said so.

Kagome and Sango hid behind a bush and tended to their business. Getting away from all the men did their nerves some good. Things had been stressful with three, now they had seven males to deal with. Kagome stretched her arms, "You know I could really enjoy punching someone in the face right now."

"I know what you mean, I need to release some of this tension." Sango rubbed the back of her neck. "Too bad we aren't back home, I'd ask if you wanted to spar."

"Thats a great idea. Though I'd rather be punching a male but hold on. Jaken!" The little imp came running at her call. "Hold this for me," She handed him her bow and arrows.

"That's my lord's sword, the Tenseiga." He watched Sango unsheath it.

"Hope you don't mind, I picked them up after the battle."

"Of course not, though you can't weild it. I'm sure my lord is glad it didn't fall in the wrong hands." The imp backed away wondering what was about to happen. Then the miko drew out the Tetsusiaga. They were going to spar using the swords, it seemed. This would be entertaining to watch. He'd stand guard for any real threat.

Before he could blink the miko took the first swing. The other girl met the blow, the clang sounded loud. Kagome smiled at her friend, "Just pretend I'm Yusuke."

"Heh, maybe you should pretend I'm Kurama with all the glares you've been sending his way."

"Fair enough I guess its on then." They charged each other again. This time putting anger behind each swing. Jaken wasn't sure which to cheer for both were equally good. Was a shame the miko seemed to weild the sword better than that hanyou brat. Kagome kicked Sango in the stomach sending the girl rolling backwards, into the camp. The men turned to watch the taijiya rolling near them. Kagome came rushing out, the sword at her side. Sango flipped back to put some distance between the two. Kagome ran towards her bringing the blade up and down.

"Mad the girl has gone." Jin stammered. "Needs breaking up."

"Leave them be," Kurama sighed. They needed to release some frustration, he prefered this over having Kagome lay into him. He'd enjoy watching also. "They won't hurt each other."

Sango stopped the blow from landing. She used the same trick on Kagome, she landed a kick to the girl knocking her back. Kagome knew she'd try it and shielded herself. "Thats cheating dammit."

"Like you got room to talk, look at the sword you are using." Kagome shot back. It was playful banter but sounded serious to the men watching. "I'm not the one weilding a sword that keeps me alive."

"Like it will work for me, I'm not Fluffy." She jumped in the air, "Prepare yourself."

Kagome rolled out the way leaving the blade to hit the ground. She brought her foot up to kick Sango in the ass. "Uh, soft tush."
She laughed at Sango's blush. "You're fighting is as soft as your backside."

"Well your singing is fouler than Jaken's armpits." Jaken sniffed his armpits, he smelled nothing wrong with them.

Kagome stopped and threw her hands on her hips. "It is not. I sing just fine thank you."

"Please, I thought my eardrums would bust." Sango folded her arms across her chest.

"I agree with the girl." This came from Hiei.

"Push it and I'll start singing Kagome's greatest hits. I'll even dance for you, tiny."

"Please don't, I want to keep my dinner down." Hiei was enjoying the playful banter.

Sango hid her smile. "Oh thats nice, you'll dance for him but not me. What does he have that I don't besides a third eye and leg?"

Kagome broke out in giggles. "I'm sorry dear Sango. I never realised you cared." She sheathed the blade and walked over to the girl who did the same. With an extended hand she asked, "Wanna shake some tail with me?"

Sango thought to herself, 'What the hell!' She could die tomorrow, might as well enjoy the night. She took the hand offered. "Sure, you're on." She let Kagome lead her into the dance. She had Sango stand still while she ran her hand over the girl's shoulder and circled her, giving her sexiest walk.

"Blimey, I'm living my personal fantasy," Chu folded his hands waiting for more. Even Rinku watched, though he found them to be funny more than anything.

Kagome had taught Sango to dance months ago. Of course the girl had been appaulled at first. No one shook their ass like that in the fuedal era. But now when she placed herself in front of Sango. They both got into it. They had their arms in the air and got into it. Laughter rose from them. Kagome looked over to see Kurama watching her and decided to be really bad. Hopefully Sango wouldn't scold her later.

She turned to her friend and got right in her face. She winked at her telling her to go along. Sango was sure she was going to scold the girl later but went with it. She heard her whisper, "Put you hands on my hips and do what I do." Okay here went nothing. Soon their legs were entwined, Sango's placed her hands on the girl's hips and felt hands on her shoulders. They began to move together causing Kagome to giggle at the picture they made.

Jaken began catching his own flies. His new masters were making out right before his very eyes.

"Fuck me," this came from Touya. The blue haired boy usually kept to himself but they had definitely caught his attention.

"Pass, but for one of them girls to ask, that be something of a different sort." Jin said. He'd gladly grant that wish for one of them.

"Try it and die," This came from Yusuke.

"Yurameshi, I believe you have no room to object." Hiei stated.

"Want to bet. Go near her and I'll rip your fucking head off." He stood up. Hiei jumped up to stand off against the boy.


Kagome was laughing when she heard the comments. So Yusuke was jealous, good for him. A small tingling began in her chest. She stopped dancing causing Sango to freeze with her. "Sango, when I say grab Hiraikotsu, something is here. I sense another of those amulets." Jaken was standing near them with her bow and arrors. First she tried to locate where it was coming from. To their left, the magic was starting to work. "Aim to the left of us, its in that tree with white flowers." At Sango's nod she whispered. "Now."

Kagome ran the few feet seperating her and Jaken. Snatching the bow and an arrow out the quiver she shouted, "Now, Sango." She released the arrow straight towards the pulse. Sango grabbed the weapon as Kagome shouted. There was enough time to turn around and release the weapon. Both cut the air leaving everyone stunned. A loud crack filled the air. "Got it." The huge weapon downed the tree and returned.

Standing behind it was a demon, protected by some kind of barrier. Why they hadn't sensed him. Sango ran up to the girl.

"Where did that bloke come from?" Chu stood up, he'd been enjoying the new fight that was about to take place. Seeing the girl grab the huge weapon off the ground had stunned him.

Everyone watched as the demon approached them floating in the air. It was the same one from the wedding! "I see we meet again. This time I am prepared for you two. You will all die now." He unleashed the magic to immobolize the demons.

"Dammit, I'm tired of this shit." Yusuke yelled.

"Speak for yourself detective." Hiei scowled. Everyone but the two girls were once again helpless. "Don't just stand there you two run." He didn't think he could handle standing here and watching them die.

"We will not run." Sango was prepared to fight. Neither girl was a coward.

Kagome felt the strange pull on her, but it was coming from several different locations. "Sango, he's placed at least four of those things around us."

"Do you think you can destroy them while I keep him busy?"

"Yeah, becareful."

Sango stepped forward letting the demon know his fight was with her. He unleashed a blast at her, it bounced off the boomerang. "You have to do better than that."

"True, I don't like to play fair. Stop now or he dies." Sango stopped in her tracks. "Kohaku."
