18. The Ring
Chapter Eighteen
Kurama walked downstairs with everyone's wet clothes heading to the laundry room. He could hear Kagome talking on the phone. "Hi, mom. Yeah I ran into some friends in town. No, don't think I'll be home tonight. Sure, I'll give you a call tomorrow. Love you too." He smiled at hearing that she planned on staying the night.
Kagome turned to see Kurama standing in the hall fully dressed ready to go out. He smiled, "I'm going to head out for a while. Figured I'd throw these clothes in the dryer. Mother was planning on having Hiei and I over for dinner tonight. I'd like for you join us."
"Sure, Shuichi." She followed him into the laundry room. "Are you going alone?"
"Yes, Hiei was going to sleep when I left the room. I shouldn't be gone too long. Make yourself at home," he placed a light kiss on her mouth. "I better head out if I want to be back in time to pick you two up for dinner."
She padded her way up the stairs, a nap sounded good to be honest. Lack of sleep left her feeling drained. Hiei didn't stir as she opened the door and walked inside. He was laying in the middle of the bed spread eagle. Almost made it hard to believe the little demon could take up so much room. She rolled onto the bed landing beside him. Since he was in the middle she decided to use him as a pillow. Her head rested on his chest and her arm was draped over him. His arm came around to land on over her shoulders. She couldn't help but tease him as she fell asleep, "Aren't you glad I went out with you that night instead of Hojo."
That evening Kagome was introduced to the rest of Shuichi's family. They seemed to be very nice people. Conversation flowed freely over dinner as they began to ask questions, wanting to know everything about her. Hiei was his usual quiet self but it appeared that the family was use to him. They accepted him as part of the family it seemed. He stunned Kagome by being polite and he had table manners.
Everyone was finishing up their dessert when Kurama looked at his mother and smiled. Kagome watched the look pass between the two. Shiori nodded at her son, she stood up. "I believe Shuichi has something he needs to do." Her husband and stepson went silent when she made the announcement. She sat back down in her seat and waited.
Kurama got up, pulling his chair away from the table. Kagome was seated in between him and Hiei. She heard a small chuckle coming from the fire demon behind her. Kagome felt Kurama grab her hand pulling her to stand in front of him. Her heart jumped into her throat when he got down on one knee in front of her. He pulled something out his pocket and slipped it on her ring finger, "Kagome, will you marry me?"
Her eyes fell to the ring placed on her finger. It was made from a gold band, the setting was of a diamond in the middle. What touched her heart was placed on both sides were a ruby and an emerald. She knew in her heart they represented both men she loved. "Yes," She threw herself into his arms.
Shiori watched her son kiss the girl, that would soon be her daughter. Everyone around the table was smiling. Hiei had a big grin on his. He for one was going to enjoy this strange human custom. He knew that it meant once they were married by human standards, Kagome would be living at Kurama's apartment. Which made him very happy. The fox had shown him the ring he'd picked out for the girl. He approved of that also.
Kagome was soon being embraced by his family. They welcomed her into the family. Shiori made Kagome promise to invite her mother over for dinner soon so they could discuss plans for the wedding.
AN: Thats it folks I hope you enjoyed it. For those interested I'm planning a sequel to this but it will be about Keiko and Sesshomaru. Of course these three will be in it but it will focus on Keiko and Fluffy. Please read and review.
