Chapter Four, Part III - Destiny
Inuyasha closed his eyes, savoring the sound of his name on her lips. It has been way too long since he heard her say his name. His nostalgia didn't last for too long though. His golden eyes snapped open in shock as his brain processed that she was already familiar of him.
"How the hell do you know my name? I never told you even once each time I visited you before. You shouldn't remember. It's impossible,"
Without missing a beat, Kagome went back to applying the cooling salve to her patient efficiently as she shrugged.
"I already told you. I have dreams of you. I seem to particularly always scream your name one way or another in them,"
Inuyasha was puzzled.
"When did you have dreams of me exactly?"
Kagome looked at him in a way that made him think she thought he had a pitifully small brain inside his head.
"I've been having them since I was just a little girl. You told me you went to my room at night, right? Those were the first kind of dreams I've had of you. Only they're actually real,"
She said the last part almost reverently, a part of her still unable to believe what she always thought was wishful thinking on her part. Inuyasha impatiently discarded her comment.
"I'm not talking about your 'little girl' dreams. I never mentioned my name to you in any of my visitations so that can't be it. I want to know when you learned of my name,"
Kagome furrowed her brows in concentration, halting her healing ministrations as she struggled to remember when she first called his name in her dreams. She barely even noticed that Inuyasha has picked up where she left off with her patient, treating the little boy with practiced ease. He was already starting to wrap the bandages before she realized what he was doing.
"Wait. I should be doing that,"
Inuyasha didn't relinquish his hold on the bandage. He just continued to wrap the boy with it.
"Never mind. Just think hard about what I'm asking you,"
"I think I was fifteen when I first dreamed of you in a different way. I always thought I was dreaming of my past life. That's not it though, is it?"
Inuyasha only made a non-committal sound at her and urged her to continue.
"I mean, you're always wearing that fire-red suit of yours that belongs in ancient times and I was always wearing my highschool uniform in the dreams so I figured it's not what I think it is. And I have this feeling in my gut that you have all the answers to my questions. Have I got that right?"
Inuyasha gave her a small smile as he surveyed the work he's done to her patient. Not too bad for a doctor who was virtually out of practice.
"Just about. How about you and me talking over lunch?"
Kagome thought the situation was spinning a little too fast and outof her control for comfort. She dazedly looked at him and saw he's already finished her job for her. He moved amazingly fast, though that should be expected regarding his unusual pedigree. Her vision was a little hazy, but as she concentrated on what he actually looked like without the illusion, she faintly saw the cute, furry ears that had her the moment she saw them.
Boy, was she glad the man of her dreams was actually a 'hanyou'. He never would've owned such sinfully cute ears if he weren't one. She reached out to touch one with her hand, unable to stop herself. He stiffened for a moment before leaning into her hand in contentment.
Kagome had him growling in ecstasy in seconds. She couldn't stop the chuckle that escaped her lips.
"So, what are you going to feed me?"
She smiled widely as she bravely took the plunge to her destiny. Nothing will ever be the same for her.
Just as everything will change for Inuyasha. And he couldn't be more happier than he was at that moment.
His mate was finally back where she belonged: With him.
