17. Going Back From The Future
A/N: So, yeah. It has been a while since I last updated. ALOT has happened since the last chapter. Pieces of this chapter -mainly the beginning- have been getting deleted; it sucks. I had it nearly done twice and lost it all both times. :( Furthermore, work is killing me. I am so sick of them MAKING me work six days a week. I signed up for PART-time. Not forty-five hours a week of sheer torture. I have to skate in pants, during the day, for 6+ hours non-stop in the Mississippi summer heat. Kill me. And some people just suck and that doesn't help. I have to keep a smile on my face throughout. And I do it. I manage. Yet, the hostility I thought I left back in highschool has followed me. Long story short, the Sonic I originally started carhopping at was slightly over-staffed, and the manager of the Sonic two towns away, who is good friends with my manager, didn't have enough carhops. So, I was sent over there to help. The girls that work there don't like me cause the managers are always praising me. That, and I do things in unorthodox ways sometimes and they just like to freak out over it. Inuyasha – Keh. Women. Tell me about it. Hm, now. . . Lessee . . . I was reading ya'll superliscious reviews on the three sites this story is up on, (soon to be four, AFF.net I am coming back legally!) and I am glad ya'll enjoy my lemons. I am a little embarrassed about posting them, but I am glad that they get positive feedback. I am really trying to get better and better. So, yes, our favourite couple has fallen down the well, so what now? Dun dun dun . . . OH! OH! (Orgasm~!) Jk. I ran across this song and it reminded me of this story. I was thinking about it being this story's theme song? R.E.M. - I'll Take The Rain Check it out, and if you have something better, like cover art or a theme song, or anything, send it in, I'm going to start posting them for people to see. So if you are bored and like to draw . . . Lol :D I SWEAR the long waits won't be for much longer. I know I said that before but I am mostly out of this rut that I was in. .^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.
Chapter 17~ Going Back From The Future
.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^. “Kagome?!” Inuyasha sat up and fourced her back on her knees to where they were nose to nose. The miko merely blinked and then allowed herself to fall back on her butt with a low whistle. “I think I just had a heart attack, she mumbled, mainly to herself, ignoring his sudden outburst of concern. “Well, atleast you're not hurt.” The hanyou let out a slow breath of his own and got to his feet, looking up to exam the hole from which they fell. Kagome regarded him from out of the corner of her eye. “Is it really that hard to keep yourself from marking me?” She asked, more worried about what happened before they ended up in the bottom of an old well. She pushed herself up off the ground as well. Her hands dusted over her clothes once before coming to rest in a tight fold over her chest. “Yeah.” Inuyasha squinted up at the square slice of sky and sighed, turning his back to her. He crouched and held his hands, palm-up, behind his lower back. “C'mon. Let's go back, It's getting' late.” Yet, the sun overhead looked brighter than before, but the hanyou ignored the deep press of “something's not right' that began to settle in his gut. When he felt her arms slid around his neck, he stood and smoothly maneuvered her into a comfortable position; her legs locked around his waist and his hands gripping just under her thighs. He crouched again and then launched himself from his haunches. As soon as the light hit them, both of the stared in shock. A field. A massive field with grass that rippled in the light, crisp breeze. The trees from the surrounding woods barely twitched or allowed their leaves to rustle while the two took in the seemingly unbelievable change of scenery. Kagome felt Inuyasha's grip loosen so she allowed her body a graceful decent into the nearly knee-high green blades. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she told herself to be mindful of snakes, but a sudden crackling had her and her silver-haired lover whipping their heads in the direction of the sound, though it was hard to pinpoint exactly because the only thing around them was a dense forest and grass Inuyasha's golden eyes flicked over the trees until he spotted a small path cut into the thicket. He swung Kagome back up onto his back and, despite her opposition to them running away from the well, he made a dash for the small opening. He ran across the grass and past the entrance until the sun was gone completely and he could feel the temperature dropping the further he went. He slowed to a stop. “Inuyasha, we have to go back!” The miko wiggled out of his hold and marched around to the front of him, one hand landing on her hip the other viciously pointed back towards the direction they just came from. A growl bubbled up from the half-demon's throat. He sensed danger like he never had before and it had him on edge. “For what? What good would goin' back there do us?” Kagome opened her mouth to say something then snapped it shut. Her mind betrayed her and shut down and the only thing she could come up with was, “Well, I don't know. Maybe it's like the Mario pipes, jumping back in will get us back to the spider-lily house.” Normally, Inuyasha wouldn't atleast chuckled, but not now. Not when he, a half-demon, a man who has been in fights, was fearful as to what was going to happen next; he didn't want anything to happen to his mate. His mind jerked. Those thoughts again. Fourcing it back, he took her hand and brought her to him. She went and allowed him to wrap his arms around her waist. “Just trust me.” Kagome felt her resolve turn to dust and blow away with the next light breeze. “Alright. Fine.” She muttered. Again, Inuyasha turned and again she found herself climbing onto his back when a sharp pain in her left side had her dropping to her knees and all but clawing at her skin. Inuyasha whipped around and dropped beside her, seizing her wrists to keep her from marring her flawless flesh. “Kagome, calm down, just breath.” He tried to keep his voice steady but his eyes flitted over her, terrified. Slowly, the jack-knife pain ebbed away and the miko's tense body relaxed slightly, though her breaths were fast and uneven. Her eyes watered and she stared helplessly at the ground. What in Kami's name was that? Silently, she brought her gaze up and terrified blue met worried gold. “Kagome . . . What happened?” Inuyasha pulled her to his chest and the only sound was Kagome's panting breaths as they slowed. “I don't know.” She said after a few long moments had passed. “That has never happened before. It was like someone was branding me. It burned.” She mumbled, her fingers inched down to her side again and the grip the hanyou had on her wrist loosened and allowed her hand to move downward. Her fingers slid over the spot she was sure was burnt, but all she felt was smooth skin, and the moon-shaped scar that was always there. Her index finger traced the scar again and she felt a jolt as it turned in on itself. Again, terror sliced through her. “Kagome . . .” Inuyasha tried soothing her but she broke from his embrace and wretched her shirt up. “It's gone.” She screeched, running her hand over it again for confirmation then stopped to let Inuyasha see for himself. “My scar! It's gone!” The hanyou picked himself up off the forest floor and took a step forward for a better look. She was right. It was gone. He didn't know what to say to calm her down. Inside his mind buzzed on over-drive. Maybe it was a drug. Maybe the old house they went to was leaking toxic fumes. He didn't know, but whatever it was and whatever high they were running on was capable of causing them pain, therefore he had to protect Kagome. But if something was internally injuring her, just what could he do? Kagome had gone back to examining her side when Inuyasha's ear twitched back. Something large, heavy was moving through the trees. He hoped to Kami it was a herd of deer. The sound increased tenfold and the hanyou just barely had enough time to knock the raven-haired girl out of the way as a woman, well what looked like a woman, shot like a torpedo from the trees . . . straight for Kagome. Midroll, Inuyasha stopped his body with the miko's smaller one shielded beneath him. He looked back at what assaulted them. A woman's pale torso grew from out of the top of a giant, segmented body. Little legs rippled down the sides of the long centipede-like half as it continued to come from the trees and curl around the woman whose back was turned while she sniffed the air. Inuyasha froze and watched silently, hoping it had no eyes to see them. “After long lassst.” An echoing voice pierced the air and the centipede-woman took another long, exaggerated whiff of the air, like a druggie smelling smoke from the drug that gives him his favourite high. Her body slung around and the two got their first look at her face. A mutated geisha. Normal from the nose up, but with a screech, her jaw unhinged and dropped, revealing rows of dagger-sharp teeth. “The jewel. Givvve it ttto meee!” Two fangs, atleast a foot long each dropped from the top of her mouth as she coiled and struck towards them again. Inuyasha nearly didn't have enough time to get out of the way with Kagome in his arms. He landed, but had to launch himself away again; the lady centipede was like a snake. Recoil. Strike. Recoil. And each strike had the hanyou on the defense, bouncing away just out of reach, just barely. “Oh my god!” Kagome, who could only scream before, found her voice. “Run! Inuyasha!” She had her arms in a choke hold around his neck and could see the inner battle he was having with himself from the expression on his face. He looked like he was about to try and fight the creature. The hanyou snarled and tore off through the trees like a bullet. “You can'ttt runnn frommm Missstresss Csssentipede . . .” The monster gave another battle cry and shot off after them, her thick, round body winding through the trees at an amazingly fast speed. Kagome peeked over Inuyasha's shoulder and sucked in a sharp breath. She had never been so scared in her life. Everything was all eerily surreal. Like it really wasn't happening and it was just a dream. A small light appeared and got bigger and bigger as they barreled towards it. They both prayed that once they went through, they would end up back home, or atleast at the spider-lily house. Inuyasha mustered up a huge burst of speed and shot through the break in the trees. Yet, only a village sat on the other end. With his heart thundering in his ears, he thought quick and ran into the first hut and dropped Kagome on the bed. “Don't leave until I come get you.” He growled, snatching up a sword that was conveniently laying on a straw chest at the end of the bed then disappeared from the hut, the sack that served as the door swung helplessly. Kagome stared at it until it stopped. “L-Lady Kikyou?” Kagome's head snapped toward the owner of the voice. A feeble old man with a cane stood in the corner of the hut, his eyes as wide as saucers. Inuyasha must've scared the Hell out of him when he barged into the man's home. The miko stood and bowed. “I'm sorry, there was this monster and we were just-” “Oh, Lady Kikyou! It's been too long. I was beginning to wonder if I would ever see ye again in my life time. Come, come. We must go let the others know yee've returned.” Kikyou? Kagome opened her mouth in protest,“But I'm not-” She was cut off when the man cheerfully tugged at her arm; the miko shut her mouth. What would they do if she wasn't Kikyou? And how did they even know Inuyasha's ex in the first place? Outside the village was in a panic. Terror once again tore through Kagome. Where had Inuyasha gone? Ignoring the pleas from the old man to stay, she began running towards where the most destruction in the village seemed to be. She grabbed the first weapon she saw; a woman was carrying a bow and arrows and, though it felt bad to do it, the raven-haired girl ran up and snatched them from the lady's arms. “I'm sorry!” Kagome called over her shoulder to the woman who looked confused more than anything before she shrugged and kept walking. “Fuck! Why won't you just die, you stupid bitch!” Yep, there was Inuyasha. Turning a corner, Mistress Centipede's coiled body came into view. She was covered in cuts, but when Kagome finally caught a glimpse of Inuyasha, he didn't look too good either. He had a nasty slice across his abdomen, and was holding it loosely, his arm coated in blood. Anger, worry, and fear all hit the miko hard like a derailing train. She slung the arrow holder on her back and yanked an arrow from it. It took her a couple tries to get it set right, but when she did, she pulled the string back hard and released the arrow. It flew straight at Mistress Centipede. Kagome thought she was seeing things when the arrow began to glow a faint pinkish-purple, but when it hit it's mark, the light exploded into a bright flash. The creature screeched, a piercing wail that had Kagome cringing. Inuyasha took the chance to finish the fight and stabbed the lady centipede right through the heart. Then that was it. With a deafening crash, Mistress Centipede fell sideways onto an unsuspecting hut, taking it with her to the ground. Kagome all but flew over to Inuyasha. He dropped the sword with a clank and leaned back against the nearest tree trunk. “'Yash.” She whispered, dropping to her knees in front of him. “Let me see.” With a nearly inaudible grunt, the hanyou dropped his hand. It was worse than she thought. The wound was deep, starting at his right pec and ending at his left hip. Kagome's breath hissed through her teeth. “C'mon.” She stood and wrapped an arm around his shoulders. He chuckled. “Where'd ya learn to do that?” Inuyasha allowed himself to fall into step with her as they walked back towards the front of the village where Kagome knew the old man would be waiting. “Inuyasha . . .” The miko's voice was soft, unsure. His ears swiveled towards her before he asked, “Yeah?” Kagome saw people staring at them curiously from the door ways of their huts as the sautered by. “The man, the one whose hut you left me in, think I'm Kikyou.” The hanyou's brow's knitted together. “Huh?” “He thinks I'm-” “Lady Kikyou! What happened to ye? And yer companion . . .” The old man eyed Inuyasha with curiousity before waving the free hand that wasn't on his cane over his shoulder in a 'follow-me' motion. “Never ye mind, let's go get ye patched up.” .^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^. Inside the hut, Kagome watched silently as the old man finished patching up an Inuyasha who just continued to grow increasingly irritated with the stranger's useless chitter chatter. “So, Lady Kikyou. What brings ye back to our humble village.” The man had finished the story of his army days and turned his attention to the young girl staring at the fire in the middle of his hut. Kagome barely caught his question, she was too lost in thought to realize that when he said “Lady Kikyou” he meant her. “Sir, I'm not Kikyou.” The miko said slowly, waiting for his reaction. To her surprise, he smiled sadly. “Ye two look just alike, I had a feelin' it was all too good to be true.” “How do you even know Kikyou?” Inuyasha cut in, grabbing his sliced-up, bloody shirt off the straw chest before standing. The old man looked thoughtful for a moment before hobbling over to a mat around the fire and lowering himself down onto it. He placed his cane neatly in his lap. “The demon attacks on our village had gotten really bad recently. Women, children, our warriors, the elderly, all were getting slaughtered. Our homes were bein' ravaged and our crops destroyed. Our once thriving village's future looked bleak.” He poked at the fire with his cane before returning it to his lap. “The elders, what was left of them, were considerin' the idea of movin'. Then Lady Kikyou and Lord Naraku came and warded away the demons and charmed our village. Since, we've had not one attack since ye two appeared with Mistress Centipede on yer tail.” He chuckled, coughed once, then smiled as he stood to remove the tea from the fire. “We've had problems with that demon before, it is a blessing to us all that ye've taken care of her.” He poured three cups. “She was after a jewel.” Kagome said, gratefully taking the steaming cup the man offered. “She thought we had it.” The man choked on his tea and the miko caught herself before she could pat his back like she always did for her Grandpa. “Do ye?” The man looked excited. “Do ye have the Shikon no Tama?” “Well, no . . .” The man sat back, clearly disappointed. A tense silence filled the room while the three sipped their drinks. “The story of the Shikon no Tama goes somethin' like this. “Long ago, General Midoriko, a high-ranking priestess with the ability to purify even a demon's soul led battles acrosst the country. She was a hero amoungst us humans, but to the demons, she was their biggest threat. She fought; 'tis was her life, until she met a man. Midoriko fell in love with him. Yet, her love became her downfall. The man was taken over by many, many smaller demons to make one large demon capable of defeating Midoriko. In battle, Midoriko ended up in the demon's jaws and as one last attempt to win her last battle, she sealed all the demons and the man she loved into her heart, as a result, a jewel, that we call the Shikon no Tama, was pushed from her body. That one little jewel is capable of creating world peace or the world's destruction. Because of this, the Shikon no Tama had to be sealed away. It took many powerful priests, monks, and priestesses to seal it away, deep into the earth where no demon could lay hands on it.” The man finished and Kagome realized she was leaning forward. She slowly leaned back on the bed and looked at Inuyasha from out of the corner of her eye. He looked deep in thought. “So, it's gone forever? Why are the demon's after it then?” The miko asked, sincerely intrigued. She had heard the legend, but not like that. The story the old man told made a lot more sense and he told it as if he had been there. “There are four souls. Ah . . .” He took his last sip of tea then set his cup down gently. “Aramitama, Megimetama, Kushimetama, and Sakimetama. It is said that a priestess will appear who is as pure and as skilled as Midoriko. This women will attract the jewel, it will leave it's place in the earth and appear inside the priestess' body until it needs to reveal itself, or is fourced out. As soon as it leaves the protection of the earth and the barriers around it, the demon's can sense it. Maybe Mistress Centipede thought she sensed it on ye two, ye do look a bit, erm, odd.” “Keh.” Kagome jumped at the sound of Inuyasha's voice and shot him a look that made him fold his arms, slowly, over his chest. “We don't have the jewel, that is just a legend.” The hanyou grumbled, standing up from his seat on the bed before setting his cup down next to the man's. The old man merely smiled. “'Tis alright. I didn't mean to upset ye. So, where is it ye two originate? Yer clothes are like none that I have seen before.” “We're from the-” “A completely different village. Far, far away. We got lost. And we should be going. Thank you for your hospitality.” The hanyou said stiffly, pushing up the hut's flap and setting his eyes on Kagome. She stood and smiled apologetically at the nice old man, handing him his cup back. “Thank you so much.” Kagome bowed deeply and smiled. The man beamed back. “Ye two have a safe trip, feel free to come back.” “Oh, we-” Before the miko had a chance to get another word in edgewise, Inuyasha had a vise grip on her arm and was leading her out of the hut and through the center of the village. “Inuyasha!” Kagome jerked her arm away and placed her hands on her hips. “What was that?” The hanyou sighed. “I have a bad feeling about this. All of this. I don't think we should go around telling these people where we are really from.” Kagome sighed as well. He was right. Whatever this was, wasn't good. And maybe it was best to keep their time travel a secret. “So, what do we do now . . .” “I don't know, let's go find a place to settle for the night.” Inuyasha and Kagome walked slowly out of the village, after the two, of course, stole some clothes and blankets that were hanging out to dry. They tried not to let the crowd around Mistress Centipede notice them too much as they made their escape into the forest on the other end of the village, opposite from which they came. .^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^. They walked in silence for a while until the hanyou stopped, causing Kagome to run into his broad back.
“What?” “I hear water. This way.” They had to duck under some low-hanging branches, which was good cause it hid them better, to get to the hot spring. While Kagome hung their stolen goods on another branch, Inuyasha laid out the blankets on the grassy part of the ground. “I don't camp much.” In an attempt to break the awkward silence, the miko began talking about how she's always wanted to go camping, but never could cause she didn't want to go alone and her friends wouldn't even entertain the idea. Inuyasha chuckled low from deep in his throat. This girl would be the death of him, he swore it. Slowly, he bent and unbuckled his belt, letting his pants fall, leaving him in his boxers. Kagome lowered her gaze when she felt a blush creep acrosst her cheeks. “What are you doing?” “Bathin'? I got centipede on me today.” Inuyasha grumbled the last part, and began unraveling the bandage around his wound. “Don't! It'll bleed again!” The miko tripped on her way over to him, but managed to grab his hands before he could remove the wrap completely.
The hanyou laughed. “I'm half-demon, remember? Look.” He moved his hands under hers and dropped away the rest of the bandages. The horrific looking slice was now no more than a long scratch over scarring. Kagome would never get over that healing ability. Inuyasha's hands moved lower and he dropped his boxers before leaning over to whisper, “Your turn” in Kagome's ear. A shiver shot up her spine and she slowly, almost as if she was in a trance, pulled her tank from over her head. Inuyasha watched, feeling himself grow hard as she revealed herself to him. Her shorts dropped next and the hanyou reached out a hand to stop her. “Turn around.” He said gruffly. Kagome turned her back to him and waited. She gasped when his fingers brushed her hair away from her back and over her shoulder. His fingers trailed lower to her bra's clip and paused. “Were you not going to get in the water with me?” He asked, fingering the clasp. It snapped a second later and the bra fell, leaving her breasts exposed to the night's cool breeze. “I was-” The miko's mouth went dry as Inuyasha's hand slid lower over her abdomen and came to rest, cupping her intimately. The first stroke of his finger had her arching against him. “'Yash, someone will see . . .” Her voice was breathless, unconvincing in her own ears. The half-demon grinned wickedly, but his smile faltered when a tiny, familiar prick on his should had him freezing. If this was who he thought it was, so help him . . . “Master Inuyasha's demon side is constantly riled up around you, you know, Lady Kagome.” Myouga the flea cheerfully pulled away from the tiny wound he made on the youngest son of his first master, narrowly avoiding the smack of the hanyou's hand. Kagome shrieked and went to cover herself, but Inuyasha already had snaked an arm around her, covering her breasts beneath it before pulling her against him. “Myouga, a minute?” “Well, I've already seen it-” “Myouga!” Both Kagome and Inuyasha said his name at the same time and the flea shrugged and bounced onto the branch where the stolen clothes hung. “I'm so embarrassed.” The miko murmured, yanking her clothes back on as fast as she could. Inuyasha threw his boxers and his pants back on, but left them unbuttoned because it would literally cause him physical pain to button them. “How did you know we were here? How did you find us?” “I normally stay in villages close to open wells, Master Inuyasha. It's easier to get back and forth.” “So, there is a way back?” Kagome said, hopefulness lighting up her eyes. “Of course, Lady Kagome.” The flea demon opened his mouth to say something else, but he looked at her curiously. “Lady Kagome, I can sense the Shikon no Tama on you, have you come in contact with it?” Kagome's eyebrows wrinkled together. “No. Isn't it buried somewhere? Why?” “I think you two should go home. As soon as possible. I'll find you the next open well and we'll have you two home in the morning. Sleep well, Lady Kagome, Master Inuyasha.” Myouga bounced up into a tree and then was gone, leaving the miko and half-demon looking at each other in confusion. .^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.~.^*^.
