Questions for Midoriko
Sorry it's taken me so long to post another chapter! Been super busy. Anyway enjoy!
Chapter 17:
Kagome woke the next morning to knocking on her door. Kagome got up from the bed and opened the door. Sango was standing on the other side looking worried.
“Sango! What’s wrong? Come in.” Sango stepped into the room and sat on the bed.
“I’m a little confused Kagome.” Kagome knelt in front of Sango and held her hands.
“Tell me what’s going on.” Sango closed her eyes for a moment before looking at Kagome.
“Miroku is acting weird. He’s not groping anyone anymore, not even me. He’s not looking at girls. He sits close to me every night. And last night he walked me to my room. I don’t know what to do.” Sango looked expectantly at Kagome. Kagome blinked a few times before answering.
“What’s the problem?”
“What do you mean what’s the problem? He’s not being himself! Something is wrong with him. I don’t think that he likes me anymore.” Kagome smiled and shook her head.
“Did you ever stop and think that maybe he is just trying to show you that he likes you?” Sango shook her head.
“No, I think that there is something wrong with him. Will you talk to him for me please?” Kagome nodded.
“Of course I will.” Sango threw her arms around Kagome before jumping up and leaving the room. Kagome smiled to herself before getting up from the floor. Kagome went to her closet and picked out a kimono. Kagome went to the back of the closet and saw some training kimonos. Kagome saw a set that looked like miko clothes and Kagome picked out one that had navy blue pants. When Mika came in Kagome quickly sent her away. Kagome dressed in the miko outfit and pulled her hair up into a ponytail.
After getting dressed, Kagome went to the training grounds with General Takio. She sat herself beneath the same tree she used before and dismissed Takio. Kagome closed her eyes and slipped into a meditative state. A blue glow filled her vision as she slipped into a trance. She saw a forest speed by her and then she was in a clearing. There was a stream to the side and in the middle was Midoriko. Kagome bowed before seating herself before her. Midoriko looked up at her and smiled.
“Welcome Kagome. I was wondering when you would stop by again.”
“I have some questions for you.”
“I had anticipated this. Feel free to ask anything. There are only a few questions that I am not permitted to answer.” Kagome nodded and thought for a moment before starting.
“I have been reading some stories that worry me. There was one in particular that I wanted to ask about. Himoko.” Midoriko nodded before replying.
“I knew Himoko before she mated. She was a very gentle soul. She was kind and caring toward everyone, human and demon alike. She fell in love with a demon and came to me for advice. She was concerned about her path. She knew that her children would be hanyou and was concerned for her miko powers attacking her children. I consoled her and she left. I never saw her again. I heard about her turning into a demon after her mating. I was happy for her. She would live forever and never have to leave her mate. I heard that she did not handle her transformation very well. While she treated everyone equally and even mated a demon she still held reservations. After her transformation she became aware of the baser instincts of demons, the beast that all demons had inside them. When she became a demon she also got an inner demon and was not able to handle it. She killed herself shortly after.” Kagome nodded.
“Will I become a demon if I mate Sesshomaru?” She nodded.
“I have faith that you will be able to overcome the battle. You are very strong willed and powerful. More powerful than even she was. You will be fine.” Kagome breathed a sigh of relief.
“Can you explain what a selection mark is?”
“You have placed a selection mark on Sesshomaru-sama. A selection mark is a mark indicating to all others that they have been chosen by someone as their perfect mate. The mark on Sesshomaru’s arm indicates that you think that he is the strongest person you know and will protect you. If also says that he is the one that you have feelings for.”
“I know that I have feeling for him but I don’t know if I love him. More importantly, I don’t think that he loves me.” Midoriko pointed at the pendant at her throat.
“Do you know what that is?” Kagome fingered it and thought.
“I’m not sure. Sesshomaru gave it to me. He said that it would have to do until he could place his selection mark on me.” Midoriko nodded.
“That pendant is a family gem. It has been passed down his family line for generations. There is not another like it anywhere. It has some very special properties to it. It will protect you if for any reason Sesshomaru cannot. It will also aid in healing you should you get hurt in anyway. Do you have anymore questions for me?” Kagome shook her head. “Then you should get back. The monk and Sesshomaru are approaching.”
Kagome nodded and closed her eyes. When she opened them again she saw a blue light surrounding her acting as a shield. Standing on the other side of it was the General and Mika. Miroku and Sesshomaru were rapidly approaching as well. Kagome slid her eyes shut and concentrated on her aura. She felt the shield and slowly started to pull her energy back into her body. Kagome opened her eyes again and everyone was sitting around her just watching her. Kagome blushed and lowered her eyes.
“Sorry to worry you all.” Kagome said in a quiet voice.
“What happened, Lady Kagome?” Kagome looked up at Miroku and smiled a little.
“I was just talking to Midoriko-sama. I had some questions for her.” Miroku nodded and stood to walk a little ways away. Mika and the General looked confused but quickly got up and walked away. Kagome could hear Takio yelling at the soldiers. Kagome looked at Sesshomaru and blushed before looking back at her hands.
“Come.” Sesshomaru stood and walked back toward the palace. Kagome followed a few steps behind him. Sesshomaru led her into this study and slid the door closed. “Explain.” Kagome seated herself on some pillows in the corner of the room. Sesshomaru followed her and held her hand as she spoke. Kagome told him about Midoriko and what they talked about. Sesshomaru nodded.
“This Sesshomaru is pleased you are taking this seriously. She was right about the pendant.” Kagome squeezed his hand and smiled up at him.
“Of course I’m taking this seriously. I am looking forward to the ball this weekend too. I spoke with the seamstress and she is making the kimono’s I requested. Is there anything I can help out with about the ball?” Sesshomaru shook his head.
“No, if you were lady of the house then you would be in charge of everything regarding the ball, but for now don’t worry about it. Now go. The first of the lords will be joining us for dinner this evening and I have things to do.” Sesshomaru leaned forward and placed a kiss on her forehead before standing and moving to his desk. Kagome quickly left the room to track down Miroku.
