Chapter 17: The Revelation
*The Only One*
When they all come crashing down - mid-flight
You know you’re not the only one
When they’re so alone
They find a back door out of life
You know you’re not the only one
We’re all grieving
Lost and bleeding
All our lives
We’ve been waiting
For someone to call our leader
All your lies
I’m not believing
Heaven shine a light down on me
So afraid to open your eyes - hypnotized
You know you’re not the only one
Never understood this life
And you’re right I don’t deserve
But you know I’m not the only one
We’re all grieving
Lost and bleeding
All our lives
We’ve been waiting
For someone to call our leader
All your lies
I’m not believing
Heaven shine a light down on me
Don’t look down
Don’t look into the eyes
Of the world beneath you
Don’t look down, you’ll fall down
You’ll become their sacrifice
Right or wrong
Can’t hold onto the fear
That I’m lost without you
If I can’t feel, I’m not mine
I’m not real
All our lives
We’ve been waiting
For someone to call our leader
All your lies
I’m not believing
Heaven shine a light down on me
*Evanescence*
It had been a little over a week since Kagome had awaken from her ordeal with Naraku and Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru barely time to talk to her because she wouldn’t be separated from the Northern Lord. At first Inuyasha had been jealous and confused at the attention she was paying to the foreign demon but, as the days had progressed he could clearly see that she was his daughter. Sesshoumaru on the other hand had been growing impatient and he was relieved when Kubaksuru had called them together for a meeting.
After he bade Jaken to entertain the children, He, Inuyasha, Miroku, and Sango awaited Kubaksuru in the study. A little while afterward the Northern Lord entered the room followed closely by Kagome dressed in a white kimono that was similar to her father’s. Her friends knew that she was changing but ever since she had come in contact with the tiger it seemed that she began to change ever more rapidly.
Sesshoumaru gestured to a large chair facing himself and Inuyasha and Kubaksuru took Kagome by the hand and seated himself. Her protectors eyes’ were glued to the Northern Lord, who had placed a content looking Kagome in his lap. They watched as the demon began to stroke her hair, which had turned from its normal dark black to a luxuriant silvery bluish color.
She seemed to purr at his caresses and she looked back at him lovingly. “Father,” she whispered.
The big feline chuckled and smiled his apology at Sesshoumaru. “You will have to forgive me godson. It has been centuries since I have seen my beloved daughter.”
Inuyasha shook his head in confusion. “I still don’t understand. I mean I can see that you two are related but, how is it possible. Kagome is from the future.”
Kubaksuru nodded as he looked at the woman in his lap. “It is time that you learn the full prophecy and why Kagome has been reborn here on earth.”
*Kubaksuru’s Story*
“Once long ago there was an angel. I have heard many describe him as the most beautiful angel in heaven and he fell in love. The one whom he fell in love with was a powerful Goddess. Beautiful and pure, she was to be blessed with the powers of Heaven and Earth to be a herald of the Supreme One. He saw that his beloved angel was in love with the Goddess and he gave the angel his blessing to be joined with her when she came of age. This greatly pleased the angel and he looked forward to this promise but, something happened. The angel soon became rebellious. The Supreme One had created the beauty of mankind and the angel had fallen in favor. He was no longer the first love and he was jealous. He began to hate the mortals and he interfered in their lives. Getting into their minds and corrupting them into doing horrible things. He loved the feeling of power that came with his hatred and so one day he challenged the Supreme One’s authority. I remember that day as if it happened yesterday. I tried to defend the Supreme One and that was how I received this scar.”
Kubaksuru smiled as Kagome reached up and caressed his scar mournfully, and he hugged her ever tighter to him.
“It was the Goddess who halted the angel’s attack that day in the heavens. He tried to tell her that the Supreme One was manipulating her along with everyone else and that he cared more about the mortals than them. He told her that if only he was given the chance to lead, they would find true salvation and be rid of the filth of humans. Outraged the Goddess proclaimed her love for the Supreme One and his grand creation that was mankind. She vowed that she would fight any evil that would try to extinguish the lives of mortals. The angel was furious, and believed that the Supreme One had turned his beloved one against him. He tried to escape with her but, the Supreme One in all his glory struck him down and gave him the mark of corruption. As his punishment, the angel was destined to be purged and reborn as one of the mortals he so despised. Though he would be human, he would be cursed to retain the memory of his betrayal, and the love he had lost.
When he was a mortal he lived a life of great evil and finally a day came when he lay dying. However, a priestess came to him and he found himself having memories of the woman he had loved once upon a time. He vowed that he would not rest until he destroyed mankind and he let a horde of demons devour his soul, thus Naraku was born again. The driving force behind him was the thought of the Goddess and he sought the Shikon Jewel so that he could wish upon it and gain back his powers. Only then could he bring about a storm on heaven and take his beloved.”
Kubaksuru glanced at the two brothers who were absorbed in his words.
"The Supreme One anticipated this. In each lifetime he had assigned the jewel to be protected by a pure spiritual maiden. It was in every lifetime that Naraku pursed the Shikon Priestesses. The life of the maiden was always repeated. She would fend off Naraku in whatever form he took and at the end of her life she would absorb the jewel in her body to be reborn with the new Shikon Maiden. It was in this century that the Shikon maiden was born but, wasn’t completely pure. She had become bitter that her life was one of such that never held peace or normalcy so she harbored a hate for the Supreme One within her body. When the priestess was born the Supreme One knew that if he didn’t intervene, this maiden would give Naraku back his powers, so it was then that he decided that the fallen Naraku had to be destroyed lest he one day succeed in his pursuit of the jewel. There was no doubt that there had to be a change in the spirit of the Shikon Maiden and there was only one other who could destroy Naraku forever. It would be none other than the Goddess, Naraku’s only weakness, my daughter.
There was just one problem… Being that she was promised to Naraku she could not mate to anyone lesser. You see, Naraku did love her, and because they were to be joined he was both her heart and soul. Though she had fallen out of love with him, he still wanted and needed her so he remained connected to her. It was thought that the only hope of dissolving the bond would be for the Goddess to mate with another. However, after being scorned once by Naraku she was hesitant to fall in love again. It was then that another angel came to her. He helped to overcome her fears of love and offered himself to her. When the Supreme One heard of this he was pleased and the angel which had been loyal and good was blessed with the hand of the princess. But when the Supreme One blessed the couple, the angel shattered in two. The two halves of her beloved were her heart and her soul. The Goddess despaired and begged the Supreme one to restore her love but, he could not comply. The only way for the lover’s to be rejoined would be to completely destroy the bond that Naraku had over her. She would have to be reborn on the earth and meet the corruption head on. It was then that my daughter promised to do everything in her power to defeat Naraku. Knowing that the Goddess would be reborn as a human, she would need powers to protect her until she would be completed by her Heart and Soul, so Supreme One decided to send the Goddess’s spirit to merge with the Shikon Soul but it did not find the soul until five hundred years into the future.
Meanwhile, back in time the Supreme One knew that while the Goddess was in her human form, she could be claimed by Naraku and if they joined he would attain his former status. If he found her before her heart and soul located her, he would have corrupted her and, she would have used the Supreme One’s blessing as a curse.”
Kubaksuru looked at Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru and smiled.
"The Supreme One appointed the Goddess's heart and soul to be born to the Lord Inutaisho, a just and powerful Lord who loved the Supreme One and mankind. They would protectors of the Goddess when she would eventually locate the Shikon Soul."
Kubaksuru fell silent as he finished his tale and looked at the astonished faces surrounding him.
Inuyasha took a deep breath and he cocked an ear to the side in confusion. “So why did I fall in love with Kikyo, if Kagome was my destined?”
Kubaksuru shook his head in anger. “You weren’t supposed to fall in love with her pup but, like Naraku when you saw her and she resembled your love you assumed she was the one. The Supreme One saw your error but before he could come to you, you were struck down by Naraku’s treachery. The priestess you knew was supposed to die in order for the Shikon Soul to be released and find Kagome but, because the maiden was full of hate the soul fled from her spirit to 500 years in the future.”
“This is why it was meant for you to be suspended in the sleep of death for fifty years until Kagome came to you,” Sesshoumaru said quietly.
Kubaksuru nodded and gestured to the Tetsusaiga. “The Supreme One wanted you to wield the Heart of Man because you are Kagome’s heart and half human yourself. No one knows better the love and respect of mankind that you have but Kagome had to teach you about this love again after the priestess almost destroyed it.”
Inuyasha gasped as he looked at the sword at his waist and then at the beautiful woman in Kubaksuru’s arms. “If she hadn’t been able to get through to me, what would have happened.”
“Naraku would have his hands on Kagome right now, and the world would be ending.” Sesshoumaru said as he turned an eye to him.
Kubaksuru nodded once more at the sober Inuyasha. “There cannot one without the other. Her heart and her soul must be together. That was your purpose, to complete her. If you hadn’t realized your error she would not have been able fulfill her destiny and Naraku would have brought destruction to mankind.”
Kagome looked at her father with curious eyes and bought a hand to his cheek. “Father how did you come to be here.”
“The Supreme One needed me to send the message to Inutaisho about his sons. I also knew that I couldn’t be separated from you, my daughter.” He said with a warm smile. “When the Supreme One saw the strife that your heart and soul was going through, he wanted me to be a presence in their lives and give you guidance when the time of the great battle approached.”
Sesshoumaru stood and walked over to the great window. He looked down and saw the statue of his father and placed a hand on the glass. “It is almost time isn’t it,” he said softly. His mind began to think of the coming darkness but, he was jarred from his thoughts when a soft body pressed against his.
“Don’t worry my love. Time and space couldn’t separate us and now that we are together nothing will tear us apart again.” Kagome said as she laid her head on his shoulder.
Sesshoumaru smiled when Inuyasha’s golden eyes appeared on side of him. “It’s strange, we’re two different halves but when we come together we make up a whole. We are the physical proof of Yin and Yang and we have a purpose.”
Kubaksuru, watched the trio embrace one another and he lifted his eyes skyward. “They are finally complete my Lord and the corruption will be destroyed.”
Sango and Miroku who had been silent looked at each other in wonder. Sango smiled as she grabbed his hand. “I never thought that we’d be friends with heavenly beings.”
Miroku nodded and he grasped her hand tighter. “I’m ready for this battle. We have to help end Naraku’s evil forever, and after we succeed I want you to marry me Sango.”
Kubaksuru saw the exchange between the two humans and his smile grew broader as hope for the future was kindled.
