The Past To Hate

Chapter Eighteen

Leiko was sitting on the tree branch looking at the sky. It was a little after noon, the day had a slight chill in the air. It almost mirrored the chill in her heart. A week had passed since that night. No words were spoken after, Inuyasha had pulled her into his arms. She'd fallen asleep with her head resting on his chest. He'd been tender with her, almost affectionate. For the first time since being reborn she fell asleep happy.

It didn't last long. She woke up to find him gone. Not sure how to react after she was weary about joining them that night. Could she act indifferent towards him? How would he treat her? She'd hidden her scent and cloaked herself and watched as they made camp. An hour after they'd eaten it was obvious Kagome was looking for her to show. Inuyasha was sitting across from the girl, he didn't seem too happy.

She heard what Kagome said. "Wonder if Leiko is going to show up tonight, its getting late?" Inuyasha had replied, "Who cares?"
Kagome got angry at the comment. "I do, dammit. What is your problem?" "I don't have a problem, and I don't care if she comes back. To be honest I hope she never comes back."

Leiko had heard the words spoken by the hanyou. She turned on her heels and left never looking back. For the first time in a long time she cried. She'd realized that night as she fell asleep in his embrace that she was in love with him. She couldn't bring herself to face him now. What made matters worse Sesshomaru somehow knew.

He'd caught up with her two days after. He'd only taken one look at her and known. They proceeded to argue.

"You are a fool," he scolded her. "You would give yourself to him when he is in love with two other women?"

"What is foolish about giving myself to the man I desire. Should I be more like you and deny myself?"

"You have no idea what you are saying."

"Don't I. You think you know me so well, has it ever occured to you that I know you just as well. I see the way you look at her. But you have this stupid notion about mating with humans. If she wasn't worth your time do you actually believe you would still desire her. I'm sorry I don't see how its possible to desire something that you can't stand. You are one to lecture me when you are still so high on your pedastal you can't see pass your own ass. At least now I can say I tried, I know how it feels to be with the one I want. All you have is unfulfilled desires and a chip on your shoulder." She turned her back on him. "Don't you dare tell me how I should feel."

Now looking back she might have been a little unfair yelling at him like that. Too late now, she wouldn't take it back. He was her friend he'd forgive her once he got off his ass and admitted his feelings. A slight breeze brought a new smell to her nose. She instantly felt anger rise. Naraku's insects could be seen in the distance, not far from her. They hadn't spotted her yet. Good she didn't feel like avioding them again. He would find her to believe alive soon if he didn't already know about Kagome being alive. She wanted to avoid him as long as possible.

The smell of wolf demons and wolves filled her nose. If she wasn't mistaken it was coming from the area Naraku's insects had gone. What was the hanyou up to now? Screw it, she'd go fuck up his plans just to make her day.

Kouga jumped out the way when a blast tried to hit him in the legs. The bastard was aiming to take his shards again. He, Hakaku and Ginta were surrounded by Naraku's minions. One particular bad ass while a puppet sat back watching. He was enjoying watching the wolf jump around trying to keep his legs intact. That new weapon wouldn't save him either.

The wolf demon kicked a snake demon as he took a swipe at him. "Fucking bastard." He was getting tired of playing around. But demon after demon came at him. He knew Naraku was trying to tire him out into making a mistake. That would end up with him losing his jewel shards.

Two more demons jumped him and he fought them off. They were coming from the bad ass's mouth. It stood at least nine feet tall, with a skinny frame, mostly skin and bones. Kouga had already tried destroying it, but it had some kind of barrier protecting it. Before Kouga could kill one the bastard was spitting more out. It was going to be endless but he couldn't just run. He might be able to outrun the demons but his friends couldn't. He wouldn't abandon them to die.

Ginta jumped out the way when a demon came for him. It turned and went back after Kouga. He wiped his brow that was close. The demon started hurling demons nonstop. Seemed Naraku was tired of waiting. Over a dozen was sent towards Kouga, then the beast turned to let a few more out. These went straight for his friends.

Hakuku stood in fright, there was no way him and Ginta could fight all those. They weren't Kouga, nor could they outrun them. He saw his death approaching as Ginta screamed for Kouga.

Kouga saw his friends being rushed but was knocked down by some type of monkey twice his size. "Get off me." He swung at it. The monkey held on preventing him from rushing to their aid.

"AAAHHHH, we're going to die." They held on to each other. An arrow raced across the air landing in the mass of demons. The energy burst, destroying them. Their ashes fell to the ground. "We're saved." Ginta looked to see a girl standing a few feet away from him. She had on a miko's clothing, her long black hair placed high on her head. A few stray strands framed her face. She was beautiful.

The demon turned to see the girl and released several more demons. She stood there as they raced towards her, "Nice try." Her hand raised and they hit some type of barrier several feet in front of her. They turnt to ash the second they collided with it.

The puppet turned to her and smiled. "Leiko."

She glared at him, "Naraku." She let another arrow fly straight into the puppet. It exploded leaving only barf boy. Kouga kicked the monkey off him.

He ran to his friends, "You two okay?"

"Yeah, thanks to her."

The demon smiled at the four, "Hnn. You can kill as many of my minions as you want. I will only make more. You can't kill me, I'd like to see you get past my barrier bitch."

"What are we going to do Kouga? Should we run?" Hakaku asked.

The girl took a few steps forward and Kouga eyed her. "What the hell do you plan on doing? If I can't get past his barrier neither can you."

"He called me a bitch." As if that was the answer to the million dollar question. She notched an arrow and took aim.

Kouga smirked at her. "I told you already that wouldn't work. Theres only one person that could get past that barrier and dog shit isn't here."

She ignored him, his attitude reminded her a lot of Inuyasha. Yep, he was already on her do NOT like list. She released the arrow, as it shot forward the demon opened his mouth to start laughing.

"HAHAHAHAHA, stupid cunt. Your attempt is all in va..." It hit him in the mouth causing his head to burst.

She walked over to the remains of the puppet and kicked at the little doll. Was a shame, now Naraku knew she was alive still. She'd be sleeping with a barrier up tonight. She heard the wolf yelling at her but ignored him. Her senses picked up. Inuyasha and the others were coming. She called for her wings and felt them emerge. Before Kouga could stop her she took off.

Inuyasha broke into the clearing looking around. There was demon parts everywhere. Kouga was yelling into the air for some reason. Stupid wolf. Kagome jumped off his back to go check on Ginta and Hakaku. His sniffed around and his eyes widened. He knew that scent, it had to be her. He stormed over to the two demons talking to Kagome.

"Where the hell is she?"

"Huh?" Ginta stared at him. "Who?"

"Oh you mean that strange girl, she took off just now. She stayed long enough to kill the demon then high tailed it out of here. See Kouga just ran off to go after her."

Everyone turned to see the dust he'd left in his wake. Inuyasha felt his anger well at that. That fucking wolf better not touch her.

"Inuyasha?"

"Leiko was just here." Shippo said. "I can smell her. I couldn't until we got here. But now her scent is lingering in this spot."

"She must have been shielding herself but stopped in order to fight. Tell us what happened here." Miroku asked.

"Well, we were looking for Naraku, when one of his puppets showed up with another demon. It was able to spit other demons out his mouth. Kouga tried killing that one but it had some kind of barrier around it. Then we started getting swamped by others. Us two thought we were goners when she came along and saved us. Then she killed the puppet, I think it recognized her. Then she killed the one demon. Was really amazing to see." Ginta took a deep breath.

"Why the hell did Kouga go after her?" Inuyasha demanded. He was tempted to run after them.

"I don't know, they exchanged a few words that was it. I'm suprised myself. He didn't even notice Kagome for some reason." Ginta was shocked when Inuyasha ignored the comment but looked back towards they way Kouga had gone. Kagome noticed it to. She'd noticed a few things lately. The way he looked the other night when she'd asked about Leiko coming back. He'd stated that he hoped she never came back. But Kagome had looked into his eyes at the statement, there was hurt there and love. Then for the last week she saw him flinch whenever her name was spoken. She'd just seen the anger when he realized that Kouga had persuded the girl. Kagome wondered if Kikyo knew that even if Inuyasha still loved and cared for them, he was in love with another miko. Even if he wouldn't admit it to himself. Suprisingly Kagome wasn't that upset. Maybe, Sesshomaru had something to do with it. Nah. She wanted Inuyasha to be happy and she liked Leiko. If he were to be with anyone else, she'd be the one person Kagome could accept.

Inuyasha knew he couldn't run off no matter how much he wanted to. Then his anger returned, why did he care? The bitch had walked away like nothing had happened. He'd been sitting there waiting for her to come to camp that night. But as time went by he realized that she wasn't coming. It had stung him when Kagome asked about her. He told himself that she was upset that she'd given her virginity to a hanyou. She'd probably been saving it for Sesshomaru.

"This can't be good." Sango was looking around the area. "Inuyasha it looks like Naraku is going after the last of the jewel shards." Her mind went to Kohaku.

"Lets catch up to them Inuyasha," Kagome said. "We need to make sure she's okay." She didn't understand why Leiko would interfere in the fight. It meant that Naraku would know all the sooner that she was alive. "I'm worried about her."

"Fine get on. Hope you two can keep up."

She knew the wolf was following her so she landed and waited. Her wings disappeared once again. Who the hell was he and what did he want. True she hadn't bothered taking a good look at him. He finally came into view. She was on a road, to a village no doubt. He stopped in front of her in a gust of wind. "Dammit, do you fucking mind. If I liked sniffing dirt I would have stayed dead."

"When did you start cursing so much brat?"
