Time to get some Kurama/Kagome action

Chapter Seventeen

The group had been walking for several hours with Hiei taking the lead, Kagome and Sango right behind him. Yusuke and Kurama was a little ways back from everyone. Kagome was getting moody. Sango kept sighing but said nothing. The miko knew her friend had a lot on her mind. The situation with Yusuke had to be hanging heavy on her mind. Kagome was really getting irritable, from all the silence. In the fuedal era the group had been fun, everyone had been able to laugh and have fun while traveling. This group was made up of several Kikyos, a.k.a zombies. Everyone one was quiet and moody, so Kagome decided to get with the program. Maybe acting up a little will help Sango smile.

Kagome stopped in her tracks for several second then threw her arms in the air. "I, Kagome Higurashi, will sing for you."

Sango slapped her forehead. "Please, no."

Kagome ignored her and began. Everyone eyed her at the comment. So she began.

Kagome swung her arms in the air as she sang. Everyone stared like she'd grown a tail and a extra head. Kurama recognized the song but it was nothing he would listen to. Sango also knew it to be a song that Kagome often, what was that word?, yeah jammed to on somedays. Kagome would play it in her box from one of those round discs. Sango knew the words after hearing it so many times but she'd never bring herself to sing it. Especially in front of any one else. Even if it did fit the mood.

Hiei landed in front of the strange girl. "Are you sure you are a miko?" He looked her up and down, went as far as to sniff her once.

Kagome put her finger to her cheek as if in deep thought. "Hmmm, lets test the theory. You stand still while I purify your ass." She said it all with a big smile. He scowled at her and jumped away. She merely smiled at his retreating back. The more she thought the worse her mood became. Yusuke was her biggest pet peeve at the moment. He hadn't spoken one word to her friend. He was treating her like a complete stranger. Kagome didn't care if she got hurt but no one messed with her friends. The guy was being a total jerk in her opinion. Maybe she would play her own style of cupid and put an arrow in his ass.

Kurama felt like laughing at the girl. He'd never imagined that kind of language would pass those sweet looking lips. One would think the taijiya would be more prone to cursing. She had actually stunned Hiei with her outburst. Not that he didn't understand, holy women just didn't talk like that.

Yusuke was very scared! The miko had looked at him a few times while singing. He'd have to tread lightly around her. She seemed very protective of Sango. If he wasn't careful, he'd end up purified. He had enough problems, he didn't need a pissed off miko hounding him.

A few hours later dark was falling, yet the group walked on. Hiei was hopping only about ten feet in front of the girls. While Yusuke and Kurama had dragged further behind. They were at least twenty yards behind everyone. They could barely be seen, they weren't worried about the girl's because of Hiei no doubt. Kagome felt something tugging at her soul, almost like when she sensed the jewel shards. Hiei's curse caused her to stop.

The little demon was standing a few feet in front of them looking straight ahead. Kagome saw his hand twitching, as if reaching for his sword. "Sango, he can't move." A demon came to land in front of him. The miko could barely see it, it was like seeing water come to life. She couldn't make out a shape but could see ripples.

Sango looked but saw nothing. "I don't see anything." She could see Hiei but nothing else.

Hiei watched the demon land in front of him wielding a large axe. At first he hadn't seen anything until his jagan had opened. Now he was watching his executioner walk towards him. He knew no one else could see the demon, he'd die before anyone realised there was a threat. The axe swung towards him.

Kagome saw the demon bring the axe up preparing to strike. "NO YOU DON'T!" She prayed the reason Hiei couldn't move was that it had one of those amulets around his neck. She sensed a pulsing around his neck, so thats where she aimed. Her arrow flew passing over the smaller demons head. A loud cracking noise filled the air as it shattered. She sighed in relief as Hiei jumped out the way in time to keep himself whole.

It turned to the girl holding the bow. She had destroyed his only chance at victory, she would die. It charged her forgetting about the little demon he'd been about to kill.

"Sango move its coming this way," Before she could move Sango was shoved aside landing on her ass. Kagome knew she was too close to get an arrow off and she wouldn't be able to run. She didn't scream, she concentrated on erecting a barrier around herself.

Sango screamed when she saw Hiei jump past her with his sword drawn. It was coming down towards Kagome. "Kagome!"

Yusuke and Kurama stopped talking at the scream. They were in time to see Hiei leap in the air bringing his katana towards the girl. Hiei was going to kill the girl for some reason. They started running, they wouldn't be able to stop it. The little demon was too fast. "Hiei, NO!"

Hiei landed in front of Kagome as the demon's head landed on the ground beside them. He heard the others yell. He knew what it had looked like but there had been no time to explain. Really, like he would kill an innocent woman. He suddenly remembered her singing bout. Okay maybe not innocent, but she'd done nothing to warrant killing her. Even if her singing sucked. "Now we are even."

"Yeah, thanks Hiei. You're a life saver." She smiled at the little guy.

"So are you it would seem." He leapt off again making sure to stay within shooting distance for the girl.

Kagome turned to Sango, "Are you okay?"

She climbed to her feet. "Yeah, just peachy."
