Chapter 17
Care to make a wager, dear brother?

Kagome awoke surrounded by her mates spooned against her, she purred and cooed while rubbing her fingers through Sesshoumaru’s long locks, trying not to get her claws stuck into his thick mass of hair. Still slightly sore, she felt refreshed. She could feel a strong arm coiling around her waist pushing her further to his body; she smiled when she felt the large bulge coming from her mate. She was happy that they survived the whole ordeal, yet what was the small orb that came out of her body? Where did it go? Questions she would have to ask her mates when they awoke.

She could feel Inuyasha nibbling on her lobe of her ear, and smiled, “hello my lover.”

“I was so scared I lost you,” he confessed as the soft vibrations of his voice tickled her ear. The soft appendages where very sensitive and she could not help but feel aroused.

“As was I,” voiced Sesshomaru. He too could not resist the scented flavor imbedding his nose; it was sweet torture. His hands wanted to start caressing her body. He didn’t think that this was an appropriate time for her to mate again. Sesshomaru was worried that Kagome would still be weak and probably still needed to rest.

“I’m sorry, I couldn’t fight her,” she said sadly, lowering her neck; trying to fight Inuyashas’ soft kisses and the sensual pleasure that she felt with his talented hands. A supple growl silenced her soft moans and Inuyashas’ roaming fingers.

“Brother!”

Inuyasha flattened his ears, when hearing the demanding tone in his elders’ voice. He didn’t need to be reminded of another lesson, yet he was disappointed when all he wanted to do was love his mate. He barked back. “ What the hell!”

Sesshomaru ignored his brothers, annoying whine. “ This is not the place nor the time to indulge with pleasures. Our mate needs rest, and there are question containing the small pearl that is now in the care of Kaede.”

“I assure you both that I feel fine, yet I’ll admit that I am still a little sore.”

Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes; he could almost feel her pain. Lifting up the sheet the covered her bare body, he rubbed the sensitive area. Lightly, feeling the tender minute wound. He smiled when she hissed in pain. “ No, my love you are not ready, and I insist that you get rest.” Removing his stare he looked at his brother, “ get up, we have to talk to Kaede.”

Kagome curled her lip, stilling the tears, she hated admitting that her mate was right and no matter how bad she wanted to be with her mates, she needed rest. Sighing she turned her head to look away from Sesshomaru, she felt angered that once again she was being dominated. She could feel his tender hands caressing her back in almost forgiving manner. She felt his hot breath above her left ear.

“My love, I only do this for your best, as much as I want to be with you, I cannot bear to think that I would cause you discomfort. Please, we will return later.” With that said, he got out of bed, “brother,” he paused waiting to hear the shuffle from the other side of the bed, “ lets go.”

Inuyasha growled, as he ran his fingers through her silky hair. He did not want to leave, he wanted to stay with her, love her, and just watch her. Almost needing reassurance that she wasn’t going to die on him. He couldn’t imagine a life without her. Then looking in her amber eyes, Kaedes’ words, haunted him, he didn’t want to believe that Kagome was Kikyos’ reincarnation. He tried to imagine her as the human woman they stalked, and gave pursuit. Her voice caught him off guard; he never did leave her gaze and felt like time had just stopped, he needed to remember to breathe again.

“Inuyasha, please don’t keep your brother, you know how angry he can become, I will be fine and look forward to seeing you soon.” She smiled at him, as her fingers caressed his face.

Leaning towards her, his brother might have the power to remove him, but he did not say he couldn’t do this, with the thought pushed aside; he carefully leaned in until his soft lips met hers, leading her into a tender longing kiss. Another growl sent him out of his wayward trance, he was eager to continue, not pleased that now he needed to stop. “I will return soon,” he said, huskily. The bed lifted lightly once more as he followed Sesshomaru out the door.

Closing the door behind him, he immediately confronted his brother, “ what in the hell has gotten into you? What is so important about this jewel? Our mate needs us there to bring her comfort.”

Sesshomaru stopped, and turned towards his barking sibling. “ Inuyasha, there is nowhere else I would rather be than with her,” he pointed a finger at the door, trying to keep his voice down so he wouldn’t disturb Kagome. “ However, she needs her rest, her wound isn’t completely healed and is still very tender.” Sesshomaru snarled, “Furthermore dear brother are you even concerned that Naraku is still alive, and we must be on guard at all times.”

Inuyasha huffed, “yeah and I hope you have scouts looking out for him, you know this political stuff is for you dear brother, you do not need my further assistance, now if you will excuse me, I am going to bed…” he growled. “… With my mate.” He turned to leave and head towards her room when a rough hand yanked him back, as Sesshomaru’s claws dug into the back of his neck; Inuyasha yelped. “ Get the fuck off me.”

Sesshomaru squeezed harder, seizing the struggling sibling, “ this way,” he commanded. Turning Inuyasha around, he lightened his grip, yet his brother still held defiance. Sesshomaru gave a quick smirk, as he narrowed his golden eyes, then turned with a satisfied growl, and proceeded walking down the well-decorated hall. Inuyasha huffed, then followed, with his arms folded over his chest, as his red sleeves hid his hands.

They came across a bend of the hall and then turned left.

Sesshomaru continued on his leisurely pace, as he listened to the mumbling demon behind him. He just rolled his eyes. He too wanted to stay with Kagome, didn’t he understand. He growled with frustration at his younger. With a quick sigh, he glanced around trying to steel his nerves.

These halls always comforted the brothers. They were filled with their mother’s memories. They had a couple pictures of the royal family together and then a couple of just their parents, in the sitting room, and around the grand dining room.

Golden lanterns adorned the gray drab walls, lightly illuminating the dark passageway.
Next to the lamps, large pictures hung lazily, filling the abundant space from the large ceilings. These pictures where all encased in a gold trim, and the pictures were gifts from neighboring Lords or Ladies and townspeople. Each portrait gave a theme to the room; it was their mothers’ décor. She loved flowers, and mostly all knew. The floral patterns represented either a field or a patch of land, from parts of Japan. Under the pictures laid a small, yet wide mahogany table, with four drawers, that pulled out underneath. The pulling drawers were coated in black paint. A scene on the drawers was a theme of a field to match the décor of the grand way, painted in gold. The wide tables repeated down the hall, each with different painted designs, yet done with the same black and gold motif.

On each table, perfectly centered, were different color fishtail vases, and decorated with different flowers, until he saw one that sparked Inuyashas’ interest. The porcelain black fishtail vase, trimmed in a mother-of-pearl appliqué floral design. The vase was filled with a beautiful arrangement of flowers, Japanese irises. The blue, violet, and white assortment gave off a soft scented aroma, not to mention breathtaking. He would definitely thank the Gardner, and of course bless his wonderful mom, and her well-nourished garden. A thought arose, shortly lapsing him from his brothers scolding. This would be a lovely gift for my love, he would without doubt return for this vase after the talk with Kaede.

“Brother?” Inuyasha’s ears perked up. “Who did you find to watch Kagome?” He couldn’t help but worry. Something inside of him was telling him that he needed to protect her.

“Before you came out I told the guards to stay put,” Sesshomaru said, plainly. “What seems to be troubling you?” He sniffed the air; he didn’t smell anything out of the ordinary except for Koga whom seemed to be coming towards them. He growled “Koga.”

“I’ll kill him, slowly if he comes near our mate!” Inuyasha snarled.

“Calm yourself dear brother, trust insured, he’s not that stupid.”

Inuyasha snorted, “ would you like to place a wager.”

Sesshomaru arched his right brow. Turning towards his brother, perplexed, but wouldn’t dare turn down a challenge, from his brother. He could only imagine what he just got himself into, “And what would that wager be, dear brother.”

Inuyasha stared at his brother with a confident visage. He knew Koga like the back of his hand. Koga loved the ladies, it didn’t matter, human or demon; Married-Mated or single. That damn wolf would do it just to spite him. “You say that Koga keeps walking, I say that he doesn’t and goes into the room.”

“And…”

“…And dear brother if he keeps walking you can have Kagome all to yourself tonight, but if Koga goes into the room, I get her alone for the night.” Inuyasha tried to hide the smirk on his face, effortlessly trying to remain stoic like his brother.

Sesshomaru smirked, somehow I feel like I’ve just cheated myself. If he lost, he lost, but he would surly take it out on that wolf just for being stupid.

“Well,” Inuyasha grew impatient.

Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes, and growled slightly, “ fine, I take your proposition.”

The two brothers waited for the noise of the guards, to scream or yell; however, no one made a sound. It had become strangely quiet that is until they heard there mate screaming bloody murder at the wolf prince. Inuyasha smirked for he just won the bet, but at the same time, he wanted to kill the wolf.

“I guess you are right, Inuyasha, Prince Koga is a stupid as you say he is.”

Inuyasha chuckled.

Without hesitation, they arrived around the bend into Kagomes room with an unconscious prince lying on the ground by the side of her bed. Both the guards were nowhere to be found.

Kagome sat up barely covered in a sheet; she was trembling as was relieved to see her mates. She couldn’t figure out why Koga barged in like he did.

“Kagome…” Inuyasha pounced on the bed embracing her tightly into his chest. Questions flying out of his mouth, “Kagome did he hurt you, touch you in anyway?”

“No,” she mumbled. “ I was sleeping and he just barged in. I screamed and jumped up, then he saw me unclothed and I freaked so I punched him square in the face.” She heard her mates’ chuckle. Her face scrunched up in confusion. “ How did he get in where were the guards I smelt outside the door?”

Sesshomaru approached her stepping over Kogas’ limp body. He began to rub her ear, “get dressed my love, I don’t think its safe for you here alone any longer.” He was pleased that his mate protected herself well. Yet, it doesn’t explain why the wolf was in here, and where the hell were his men. They were supposed to be protecting her. His eyes blazed red then he fought the inner urge to find them and rip them apart slowly.

He watched Kagome climb out of bed wrapped in her sheet and then went to the dressing room to change, he could not smell any lingering threat, so therefore felt safe, to leave her; she seemed to calm him somewhat, when she caressed his arm gingerly; reassuring him that she was indeed okay.

Koga began to come to; his long lean form was laying on the Oriental rug, his face buried between his extended arms. “ What the hell,” he grumbled as he slowly arose, shaking his head; trying to regain his vision. His eyes bugged when he heard the Lords of the Western lands in the same room. ‘ Shit I’m a dead wolf.’

Kaede looked out of the large open window, gazing at the splendid garden below. She knew that Kagome was indeed her sisters, reincarnate, when the jewel once again resurfaced. She was comforted but sadden at the same time. She knew Kikyo was the sole protector of the jewel that had been buried with her sister, when she passed. Being a priestess, she was never allowed to have a husband, or boyfriend. Yet she knew she was seeing someone but didn’t know who.

Kaede rubbed her face; she was now an old woman, and her sister died fifty years ago. Now Kagome was in charge of this thing, this apparition. She rolled around the orb in her calloused hands, feeling the immense power surging through the pearl like ball. Would Kagome share the same fate as her sister? She prayed that Kagome, since she is a demon now, would she still hold her priestess powers; to better aid in protecting the small pearl.

She looked out the window again, what is taking them so long they should have been here by now. She knew they had questions, she could only hope she had the answers to this mysterious piece of jewelry, as it continued pulsing in her hand, almost as if it were reading her thoughts.

“You dare look upon what is ours, “ Inuyasha said, clenching his teeth together, trying not to beat Koga.

Koga now corned in a wall, he had no escape. Yet, he was innocent. “Inuyasha, Sesshomaru, My Lords, please understand I didn’t come in intentionally. I saw no one by her door, and I smelt something else, I was merely just trying to protect Lady Kagome.”

They could not detect a single lie out of him. Nor could they detect any other lingering scents, or any demonic auroras.

Kagome looked startled, “ I swear I didn’t notice anyone else here.”

“It does not matter now, you are not leaving our side,” Sesshomaru said. “ I feel however, that whoever was in this room was probably looking for that jewel. That means Kaede isn’t safe and we need to get to her now! Koga you will accompany us.”

The wolf prince bowed, thankful that he was still breathing, he followed out of the room and they headed towards Kaedes room.
