A New Path

While Kagome and Sesshomaru were in Kagome’s time, Litara began to seduce Inuyasha. She’d watched the way Inuyasha

looked at Kagome, and took mental notes. She knew that Inuyasha was in love with Kagome, so she needed to know what made

Inuyasha love her. She knew that Kagome’s love for Shippo was one thing that Inuyasha loved about her. Litara also saw that

Kagome’s freedom with her emotions was important. However, the most important thing of all was the way Kagome challenged

Inuyasha despite her humanly weakness, and how she fought back against his teasing. As soon as Kagome and Sesshomaru were

out of sight, Litara swooped in to comfort Shippo. She was careful to moderate the way she showed affection, only slightly adding

on to the amount a demoness mother usually gave her young. Instead of only touching his shoulder as she spoke to him, she

picked him up and hugged him to her, slowly rubbing his head gently. She spoke in a firm voice.

“Shippo, you know that Kagome will be back soon, and that Lord Sesshomaru will not allow her to come to harm. You must

stop crying. You know that you are a demon and therefore must be strong and not show such emotion. It is alright to be upset,

but you must not show it. Other demons may be around and will see, and they will see a weakness. Crying is putting you and

Kagome in danger. Stop crying.” She said. Her voice was not only firm, it also demanded obedience, just like a demoness mother

should sound when teaching her young a lesson. The difference was that Litara was holding Shippo and trying to soothe him at the

same time she was teaching him. Shippo quieted immediately, and nuzzled Litara briefly. He then jumped down and ran over to

Inuyasha.

“Inuyasha, can you train me some more? So I can have some new fighting techniques to show Kagome when she

returns?” Shippo asked.

“Sure kid, let’s go. There is a clearing nearby that will be perfect.” Inuyasha said. He was looking at Litara strangely

while he spoke. He turned and lead Shippo to the clearing. Litara realized that he was staring at her because she was smiling.

Smiling lovingly at Shippo, which is not something that a demoness did. She was shocked at herself. She was also surprised at the

results of her teaching. Shippo had discreetly returned the affection, and had recovered much faster than any other cub she’d

seen. Her smile was genuine, which further shocked her. Maybe she wasn’t as cold as she thought she was. She shrugged it off as

impossible and began to cook dinner, thinking of a way to fight with Inuyasha during or after dinner.

Meanwhile…

Miroku had been walking through the woods with Sango. He tried very hard to refrain from groping her, but he couldn’t

control himself. Sango had slapped him and yelled; “Just because we are lovers now doesn’t mean that you can just grope me

anytime you want, Pervert!” before walking away. Miroku now decided to make it up to her by going into town and buying her a

new gown.
