Cats and Dogs
Disclaimer: I feel
like I should add this in occasionally so you guys don’t forget that it’s
virtually impossible for me to ever
own Inuyasha and also so that I avoid having someone place a lawsuit on my ass.
But Riquo and all the lame-ass character names I come up with are mine.
the idea.
Kouga
scanned the scene before him with anticipation. From their previous fights, he
knew Baroux’s tactics and how he fought. His clan was bigger than Kouga’s at
the moment, but they lacked strength and coordination. All they know how to do
is bombard and beat the every living crap out of somebody and mov move on to
someone else. And the sad thing is that strategy works. Kouga knew him and his
warriors would have to use lots of strength and tactics to get through them. He
looked up to the entrance of the den and sniffed. It’s deep…Riquo and Sango are probably in the very back of the cave, so
we don’t have much time.
“What’s the matter, Kouga? Waiting for me to go first?”
Kouga chuckled, “You and I both know you’ve never had the
balls to initiate a battle, so why would you start now?”
Kouga’s clan roared with laughter as Baroux growled in
anger. Suddenly, Baroux snatched up a spear from one of his comrades and lunged
forward towards Kouga. Kouga quickly stepped backwards and grabbed the side of
the spear, stopping it only inches from his face. Kouga snapped the spear in
half and threw a punch at Baroux. Kilala stepped forward and roared. The battle
had started.

Sango’s head shot up as she heard
noise from outside. I know that
roar…that’s Kilala! They came for us! She was about to share the good news
with Riquo until she saw what state Riquo was still in. Since her last
encounter with Baroux, Riquo had been passed out cold and hadn’t moved. The
only sign that she was alive was the quiet wheezing noise she made when she
breathed. Hang on Riquo, they’re here for
us and they’re gona get us out of this hell hole!

Kouga
knocked another wolf in the head with his fist and growled in frustration. He
was supposed to use his speed to burst through the black wolf clan to the back
of the den and rescue Riquo and Sango. Easy? No. For
some unknown reason, every time he attempted this, someone would trip him,
thrust a weapon at him or just throw themselves in his path. Apparently they
with them.
Avoiding several weapons and bodies, Kouga scanned the
battle for Inuyasha. Miroku…cheetah…Kilala…cheetah…another
cheetah. Where the hell is
Inuyasha?! reached out with his senses as far as he could. Nothing.
Suddenly Baroux appeared behind him and wrapped his arms around Kouga’s neck,
choking him. Kouga clawed and punched, but to no avail, he could not free
himself from Baroux’s grasp. Right as Kouga started to black out, he felt a
very, very powerful presence behind him…behind Baroux.
“What?! No!”
That was all Kouga heard before he heard and felt something
behind him being shredded. As Baroux’s grip loosened and fell, Kouga doubled
over onto his knees, coughing badly. Slowly turning around on his knees, his
eyes widened as he saw body parts…Baroux’s body parts. Kouga closed his eyes
and swallowed the bile that had risen in his throat.
“Are you just gona sit there wolf?
Or are you in the mood to fight?” said a deep voice.
Kouga’s eyes snapped open. He remembered that voice. He
remembered it very well and had prayed that he would never have to hear it
again. He slowly rose his eyes to meet the gaze of the only person he had ever
feared…Inuyasha’s transformed state. Red eyes, blue stripes, nine inch claws
and fangs. The whole she-bang. Kouga onlyonly seen it
once, and luckily it hadn’t been him fighting Inuyasha.
Inuyasha was battered and bloody and apparently had transformed
for survival matters. Kouga had heard him shouting his tetusaiga attacks, so
why did he transform?
“I decided that this might work better to get through these
bastards,” said the baritone Inuyasha.
Kouga swallowed hard. This was the only time he actually
feared Inuyasha. And he didn’t know if he wanted to be on the same battlefield
with him either.
“Relax, I’m on your side, remember.”
Kouga swallowed again, “Glad to see you’re conscious of
that.”
Inuyasha chuckled, that psychotic, maniac chuckle thates
es
grown men/demons piss on themselves. Luckily Kouga maintained his composure.
Suddenly Kouga noticed that it was ironic that Inuyasha and he would have a
five minute conversation in the middle of a battlefield with no one trying to
fight them. Suddenly Inuyasha jumped up and lunged down towards Kouga.
Kouga gasped, “Inuyasha! No!”
Of course, Inuyasha hadn’t been aiming towards Kouga.
Someone behind him was coming up slowly with the remains of a weapon. Kouga
chuckled half-heartedly and took Inuyasha’s offered hand.
“Looks like we got this battle wrapped don’t
Inuyasha was silent for a while with an unreadable
expressiaintainted on his face.
“Actually, Kouga, things just got worst.”
From the depths of the forest, thousands of black wolves
emerged. Apparently Baroux had started just a little early with his little
repopulation skit. And his descendants were doing exactly what he wanted them
to do. Take over.
Kouga growled low in the back of his throat, watching all
the wolves emerge. This wasn’t the plan. This was a rescue, not a fight to the
death. He needed to get Riquo and Sango back, no matter what.
“Kouga…” Inuyasha said, noticing the wolf prince’s change in
stature.
Inuyasha, though transformed and seemingly dominant on the
freaky food chain, took a step back away from Kouga. He sensed something only
he felt when Riquo transformed that one time…
Oh shit…
Transformed and crazed, Inuyasha tried to think of a way to
calm Kouga down>

“Kouga, no. Call for you allies.
They can help us.”
“No,” Kouga said, his voice getting deeper and the cerulean
in his eyes spreading, “I said we wouldn’t need them, and I meant it.”
The battle seemed to stop as Kouga started to convulse rapidly.
Suddenly a bright blue light shot out from around him and he roared. Inuyasha
covered his eyes from the blinding light. Then, he remembered something Kouga
had said to him about transforming:
Inuyasha relaxed then
looked at Kouga, “Say wolf boy, why don’t you transform? Don’t tell me you
can't do it.”
“I can. But I don’t
have as much control as Riquo.”
Inuyasha swore and was about to stop Kouga, but the light
faded quickly, and right in front of him stood one big ass, pissed off wolf.

Riquo
slowly opened her eyes, sensing several things, her nerves not being one of
them. First, she sensed Sango, awake, and…happy? Well, she was bound to go nuts eventually. Then she scrunched up
her face, sensing more. A battle, outside…Kouga…oh shit, he transformed…Kouga you moron! Kilala, Miroku, her
cheetahs, thousands of wolves…where’s
Inuyasha? She felt something odd but couldn’t quite place it, she’d never
felt it before. Riquo sighed, well now I
know why Sango’s happy.
“Looks like I was false with you Sango. We might get out of
here after all.”
Sango laughed, “No you weren’t lying.
We couldn’t get out of here by
ourselves. But it looks like the guys might get us out. Can you sense what’s
going on out there?”
Riquo stretched as far as she could, “Yep, there’s a battle
going on. Kouga transformed. Miroku and Kilala are weakening but holding strong
and the wolf count, most likely the black wolves, is decreasing.
“Kouga can transform?”
“Yea, he’s not very stable in that state though.”
“Oh, what about Inuyasha?”
Riquo scrunched up her face again, “I can’t seem to find
him. Though I do feel something weird out there. It
seems to be demon, but not a demon like me or Kouga.”
Sango sighed, “Oh boy. That’s Inuyasha.”
“Huh? What do you mean?”
“He’s half demon. He transforms when his life is on the line
and he isn’t holding tetusaiga. You know about half demon transformation
right?”
“Yea…I just never considered that he would do it.”
“Well, he can’t help it. It’s like an involuntary impulse.
It’s kind of scary.”
Riquo nodded even though she knew Sango couldn’t see her.
Not that she would tell Sango, but the thought of Inuyasha transformed scared
her too.

Inuyasha stared
at the massive creature in front of him. Thousands of wolves did the same,
gawking at his size. Kouga’s wolf form
shook out all the kinks in his body and then threw his head back, roaring. He lowered
his head and glared, and it seemed his glare was centered on almost every black
wolf near him.
Miroku slowly stalked towards Inuyasha, hoping Kouga would
remember him and not try to kill him. Then again, he hoped Inuyasha would
remember him as well. He reached Inuyasha and knew he had his attention when
his ears swiveled towards him.
“Inuyasha,” he whispered, “don’t you think we should go and
retrieve Sango and Riquo? I think Kouga can handle everything now.”
Inuyasha snorted, “Fool, he can’t stay in this state for
long and he probably couldn’t last any longer in a battle.”
Miroku dropped his head, defeated. Then his head shot up and
he glared at Inuyasha’s back. Inuyasha felt this and turned around to Miroku.
“You have something you wana say? Say
it.”
“Inuyasha you know as well as I do that the point of this
mission was to get back Riquo and Sango. Do you really not care about Riquo that
much that you’d rather waste time helping Kouga? And besides! It’s not like we’re
abandoning him forever! It would literally take us mere seconds to retrieve
them and then come back to get Kouga and leave! Baroux is dead, all that’s left
is getting what we came for,” Miroku blinked back the tears that threatened to
fall, “I was hoping that even in your demon state you would realize that, but I
guess I gave you too much credit.”
Inuyasha’s red eyes started pulsing and Miroku knew he’d hit
a sore spot. He’d been bold…too bold and he readily expected Inuyasha to strike
him where he stand. Inuyasha was silent for a few seconds before he lurched
forward and grabbed Miroku by the throat.
”Don’t forget who you’re talking to. Next time, I may not be so nice as to let
you live—“
Suddenly Kouga growled behind Inuyasha and bent his head
down to nudge Inuyasha towards the cave entrance. Inuyasha snorted and released
his grip on Miroku.
Kouga nudged him again, “All right! I get it!”
Inuyasha and Miroku took off into the dark cave. Kilala stayed
behind to assist Kouga against all the black wolves that surrounded them. As Inuyasha
and Miroku sprinted through the darkness of the cave, Miroku continuously
glanced at Inuyasha’s form.
“Inuyasha, don’t you think you should calm down and get oof yof your transformed state? I don’t think you’d want to scare Riquo would you?”
“First of all monk, the only way I’ve ever come out of this
state is when Kagome used these,” he said tugging on the prayer beads, “second
of all, we still have to fight long enough to get Kouga out of here and
besides, she has to see me like this eventually.”
“You’re heartless.”
“Look who you’re talking to.”
They reached the cage in the back of the cave. Inuyasha quickly
sliced through the bars and stepped in.
“Inuyasha get back out here and help me! I can’t see a damn
thing!” Miroku shouted.
“Miroku?! Is that you?!” Miroku heard
Sango shout.
“Sango! Hang on,
I’ll get you out of here in no time!”
SLICE!
Miroku stopped picking through the cage door and paused.
Suddenly Inuyasha appeared with a filthy and exhausted Sango
in his arms.
“Take her and start heading towards the entrance, I’ll catch
up with later.”
Miroku nodded and took Sango, holding her close.
my love. He quickly guided his way through the dark and damp cave.
Sango nuzzled closer to him, shivering, “I missed you,” she
whispered.
Miroku gently squeezed her shoulder reassuringly, “I missed
you too.”
Sango smiled and then passed out.

Inuyasha slowly stepped towards Riquo. He was curious as to
why she hadn’t said anything yet, but he let that slide. He ran his eyes over
her body, checking for damage. That’s when he heard her swallow hard. She was
afraid of him. Inuyasha sighed; he didn’t want her to fear him, ever. And the
worst part was, he couldn’t get himself out of this
state, no matter how calm he became.
“What are you afraid of my love?” he asked, quietly.
She swallowed again, “Nothing…just please, get me out of
here.”
Inuyasha eyed her with a look of love, shame and pity. He knew
she was scared. He looked over her chains and raised a hand to slice through
them. Riquo’s eyes widened and she gasped, turning her head away from him and
squeezing her eyes shut.
Inuyasha stopped. She
really is afraid of me. He walked towards her until his body was against
hers. He lifted his hand to her face and cupped her cheek. Riquo flinched and
slowly opened an eye.
“Why do you fear me?”
Riquo gulped, “Because, I-I’ve seen half demons in this
state before. I’ve even fought one, and I know what they are capable of.”
Inuyasha nodded and leaned forward towards her neck. Riquo breathed
in sharply as he hovered over her neck. Inuyasha nuzzled her scar and Riquo instantly
relaxed, purring.
“But did you know that, no matter what state I’m in, as your
mate I am always conscious of who you are? I would never hurt you Riquo. I love you.”
He raised his hand again and slashed through her chains, one
at a time until she came free and slumped against him. Inuyasha gathered her in
his arms and held her close, waiting for her to recover. When she gained back
all of her strength, Riquo wrapped her arms around him and kissed him, with all
the love and passion of being apart from him for too long. Inuyasha kissed her
back, seizing her mouth with his tongue and holding her close. When Riquo broke
the kiss, she stepped back and took a good look at him.
“Ya know, you look kind of sexy
like that,” she purred.
Inuyasha growled and she giggled at him, reaching up and petting his ears. He immediately
went from growling to purring and Riquo laughed, hugging him again.
“Come on, we need to get out of here before Kouga loses any
more strength,” Inuyasha said, grabbing her hand away from his ear gently.
Riquo paled, “Oh my God, I forgot about him! Come on!”
Riquo took off at full speed out of the cave, Inuyasha trailing
behind her. As she neared the entrance of the cave she took in the battle that
was taking place and gasped. All the black wolves were bombarding Kouga and he
could barely move. Still running, Riquo began to envelope herself in red light.
”RIQUO NO!”
By the time she reached the entrance of the cave, she had
completely transformed. She squeezed out of the entrance and tackled several
wolves that had climbed over Kouga. She smacked several away with her paw at
once and roared, scaring the rest away from her. Kouga had done all right by
himself. Several wolves were either dead or cornered and surrounded. Seeing a
transformed cheetah didn’t help their stamina any more so a few of the leading
wolves roared for a retreat and they abandoned the battle.
Inuyasha burst through the cave entrance just in time to see
the wolves retreat. Damn, took away all
my fun. Riquo stood there for a while, watching the wolves retreat,
panting. When they escaped her line of vision, she turned around and headed
towards Kouga. He laid on the ground, panting heavily, his eyes closed. Riquo bent
her head down and nudged his. He slowly opened his eyes and whined. She moved
around beside his back and laid down next to him.
After doing this, Kouga’s breathing started to even out and
from the looks of it, he started to calm down. Inuyasha called upon one of Kouga’s
men.
“Do you know what she’s doing?” he asked.
“She’s trying to calm him down and make him relax so he can
transform back into his normal state. We can’t travel if he’s like this.”
Inuyasha nodded. He walked up to where the cheetah and wolf
demon lay next to each other. He moved in front of Kouga’s face and patted his
muzzle. Kouga rolled his eyes down to look at him. Inuyasha started stroking Kouga’s
neck, and Kouga closed his eyes, relaxing even more. Riquo lifted her head to
look down at Inuyasha. When he looked up at her, she winkedhim him and laid her
head back down on Kouga’s shoulder so she could watch Inuyasha.
Finally, blue light erupted from Kouga’s body and he started
to shrink. When he was back in his normal state, he collapsed against Riquo’s
body. Inuyasha walked up to him and laid a hand on his shoulder. Kouga opened
an eye to look at him and flinched, seeing Inuyasha still in his transformed
body.
“Relax, I’m not crazed or
psychotic. Let’s get you out of here ok? You need to rest,” Inuyasha said,
taking Kouga’s arm over his shoulder.
Kouga nodded and Inuyasha patted Riquo, and she lowered
herself so he could help Kouga get on her back. Inuyasha, Miroku, Sango and Kilala
all boarded as well. Riquo raised herself slowly and then took off on the short
journey to Kouga’s den, his comrades following her.
On her back, Kouga lay passed out next to Inuyasha. Sango lay
against Miroku, both of them against Kilala.
Sango lazily opened her eyes and watched the scenery whiz
by, “It’s finally over.”
“Yes, Sango, you and Riquo are safe,” Miroku said.

doozy! I don’t think I’ve written a chapter that long
in forever! O well, I hope you enjoyed it! O by the way, some of my previous
