CHAPTER 4, PART 1 - DESTINY
~*~ Hey guys, sorry for the late update. But well, since I've uploaded my 'A Prince For Sale' fanfic for Final Fantasy VII, I now have 3 stories to finish *sweatdrops*. What have I gotten into, right? *bangs head on the coffee table* But no worries, I'll get all 3 stories finished definitely. ^_^ I'll be alternating chapter updates for all my stories, so you guys will probably be in for a long wait, but I'llmake sure the updates will be worth your while *wink*. Chapter Four, Part I - Destiny
Kagome was already at the hospital at exactly eight in the morning. She didn't know why, but she felt like something was going to happen today that would radically change her life forever. She wasn't too far-off the mark either.
Her day started the usual way. Just an average working day for Dr. Higurashi. No serious emergencies went her way so far, but it was noted by both her patients and her co-workers that she was on the edge that day. She kept giving her watch furtive glances every five minutes and was always craning her head to look at the emergency room entrance. Everyone deducted she was definitely waiting for someone. A visitor, maybe.
For Kagome, the wait was taking its' toll on her nerves. With no serious emergencies to distract her, she felt like she was going daft. Either 'he' shows up or something 'big' comes her way, that's what she wanted. She didn't particularly care which came first.
She got both of her wishes at exactly ten o'clock in the morning. Just as a severely injured boy was rushed into emergency due to major burns, the one Kagome was waiting for strolled inside the hospital building. As she was headed to treat her badly burnt patient, 'he' headed straight to the administrative building immediately upon his arrival. All the staff knew him, of course, and they either nodded or smiled their greeting at him. When he saw the secretary waiting for him, he ordered her to page Dr. Higurashi and have her sent up to him at once. The female inu-youkai did as she was told without question.
"Paging Dr. Kagome Higurashi. Paging Dr. Kagome Higurashi. Please proceed to the administrative building immediately,"
Kagome's head shot up in surprise as she heard her name being paged. And not to attend a patient, mind you. It was a summons from the higher-ups. She supposed it was Sesshomaru Kojima who was behind it. But he could wait; she had a job to do first.
The four-year old boy that was bawling his heart out due to acute pain got his burns when the firecracker that he was playing with blew up right in front of him. His parents immediately rushed him to the hospital, but he was already badly injured. The burns were not life-threatening, thank God, but they were still major ones. The whole left side of his face was charred, as well as his head. His hair was singed right to the scalp. His arms and his chest weren't spared too.
Every inch of his burned flesh agonizingly hurt, and it became increasingly difficult to treat him. Kagome's heart went out to him as he screamed each time the antiseptic made contact with his raw and bleeding skin, but it cannot be helped. The burns had to be cleansed very thoroughly before it can be treated properly. Kagome murmured soothingly to the child in an attempt to calm him down as she channelled her healing energy to help him through the pain.
