Chapter 16 Tea with the Tai-Youkai
BEEP…. BEEP…. BEEP… BEEP… BEEP…..
SLAM… CRASH…
Kagome’s hand came up swiftly and grabbed the damned alarm clock with was currently making its way at light speed across her room for waking her. It broke in several pieces on the floor of her room. ‘Great, one more damn thing I have to do today.’
She sighed heavily as she removed the twisted covers from herself. Swinging her legs over the edge of the bed, she stood. Stretching her arms over her head and arching her back, she stretches her aching muscles. Her right hand makes it to her flat tummy and gives it a little scratch as she has another large yawn. She scuffles over to her slippers and puts them on and grabs her robes.
Shuffling her feet to the bathroom, she yawns again as she opens the door. She is starting to wake from her sleep induced stupor and realizes that she is wearing her jammies. ‘How the…Oh well…who knows.’ The last thing she remembered from last night was thinking how incredibly horny she was and putting in her mix tape. She blushes as she continues to remember what she did right after that. She also remembers actually seeing InuYasha in her room as she came to climax. She knew that there was no way for him to be there, he did not know where she lived and there was no way he would have followed her. He was probably still beating the shit out of Bankotsu… or screwing Kikyo…
She sighs and a tear escapes her eye. ‘Stop it Kagome!’ she berates herself. She knew this would happen. No more men for her. It’s not like InuYasha was coming back anyway, she just knew it in her heart. She goes about her morning routine as she starts to remember the dream she had last night. Brushing her teeth she starts to daydream.

Sitting under the God tree, she looks over to the courtyard and the well house. He’s standing there in his fire rat robes. The wind in his hair and a sword on his hip, he looks beautiful. He is giving off a powerful aura and she sighs and starts to stand to walk to him. She is content to continue staring at her Adonis as she makes her way to him.
She starts walking towards him only to find that she can not get to him. He looks at her and gives her that smirk of his. He turns away and she sees Kikyo standing on his other side, in robes just like hers. ‘What? She’s not a priestess…’
She is now running towards the couple as he sees him turn fully to Kikyo. He pulls her into a loving embrace and Kagome can hear his words to her.
“I love you Kikyo. I was a fool to think that I could be with anyone other than you. Will you be my mate?” He looks into her eyes and moves his head lower to kiss her as he cups her cheek in his hand. He stops just centimeters from her mouth.
“Yes InuYasha. I will be your mate. Take me away...” Kikyo says as his lips descend upon hers for a searing kiss.
Kagome stops and drops to her knees in the center of the courtyard. “InuYasha…Why?” she says out loud as the couple stops their kiss and look at her. They start laughing and move the shrine steps as Kagome sits and sobs. She is a blithering mess as she cries all the tears left in her body. She did not know it could hurt this much. They move out of focus and she feels herself coming back into consciousness.

Kagome is combing her hair and is crying silently. She was not even paying attention to herself. She was so transfixed on the memory of the horrible dream she had. She sighs again and takes it for what it is… Sheer heartbreak… She knows now that what she felt for InuYasha was indeed love.
She’s not going to deny it now, the dream proved to her how strongly she really felt about the man. She finishes putting her head up as she looks in the mirror. She looks like death warmed over. She didn’t get much sleep last night and it was going to be a LONG day. Grabbing her concealer, she puts some under her puffy eyes and hopes this will help. ‘Maybe grab a cold compress while I eat breakfast, which should take down the swelling.’
It’s now about 4:30 and it’s time for her to get to it. She opens the shoji door to the outside world and goes to remove the ribbon from the gates. Her feet are dragging even though she drank a full pot of coffee. Once the gates are open, she grabs Ji Chan’s sturdy old broom and moves to the bottom of the shrine steps. Moving with purpose she goes step by step and removes the debris that has collected since yesterday. It is good for her to keep her mind on something other than the events that had transpired the evening before.
At the top of the steps she stops. It is still very early, just about sunrise. She leans on her broom as she waits for the sun to rise. She stares at the God tree as the sun starts bringing the world to consciousness. The gold and orange hues are stunning as the light mist starts to give way to the suns kiss. She almost feels like she is a priestess in the feudal era of Japan and she is waiting to collect her herbs once the sun rises.
She looks up into the branches of her tree as she hears a shuffling sound. She caught movement out of the corner of her eye and immediately was on defense. She was NOT taking anything for granted, especially at this time of the morning and with what happened with Naraku. She was waiting for him to come back for her. ‘He wouldn’t come back this soon, would he?’
“Miko…” The statement removes her attention from the tree and she slowly moves to her eyes to her unexpected visitors. Needless to say, she was slightly shocked at her guests’ appearance
She turned to see Sesshomaru standing at the top of the steps with his arm around the shoulder of his mate Rin. He was clad in a white silk haori with a red honeycomb pattern adorning the sleeves. There was also armor covering his beautiful chest not diminishing the physique that rested below. If anything, it made him look more fearsome. There was a yellow and purple obi holding the ensemble together. ‘Is that a sword?’ she thought to herself.
She was not scared. If this demon wanted to hurt her, he sure as hell would not have waited until today to do it and he would not have saved her either. She did find it slightly odd that he would dress so formally to meet with her. There was really no reason for it; she was not to be mated to his half brother. That was one of the things she was very curious about.
“Good Morning Lord Sesshomaru. It is a pleasure to have you at the Sunset Shrine.” She bows deeply at the waist as she waits for acknowledgement from the lord in front of her. She understood that he held a station that was not required of most demons. She was still very surprised that he would not have a demon as a mate. That was something she could think on another time.
Rin was stunning in the kimono she wore. It was a deep violet with a silver obi. The violet faded into a lavender color as it reached her feet. She also had and uncharacteristic amount of layers. Kagome counted 6 layers to this kimono. ‘That’s the amount of layers usually reserved to royalty.’ She did not know the extent of blood that ran in InuYasha’s family.
“I have come to discuss the half breed.” Sesshomaru states matter-of-factly. There was a curt tone that could not be denied as he said this.
“Sess, stop calling nii-chan that. That is really disrespectful and you should know better.” Scolds the small woman at the tai-youkai’s side. She looks up at him with a twinkle in her eye. Her gaze was jovial towards him despite the tone she used to reprimand his words.
“I apologize; my half-brother is the subject of my visit to you this morning. Do you have time for a cup of tea perhaps?” He asks almost kindheartedly. It appears that this slip of a woman at his side really does know how to handle the tai-youkai next to her. He almost sounded apologetic in his statement. Kagome knew better though. She had only seen the brothers interact for a few hours but knew there was no love lost between them.
“Yes, of course. Let us retire to the tea room and I would be happy to serve.” She said with another bow. She knew how to act in these situations. There were several questions that she actually had for the demon as she moved to the building off to the left of the courtyard.
She moved slowly and with purpose to the room with her guests just behind her. She reached the shoji door and kneeled, as was proper, and opened the door for them with another bow.
“Please have a seat, I shall return shortly.” Kagome said as she slid the door shut.
Once she was out of earshot, Rin said to her mate. “She will be a lovely addition to our clan. Don’t you think?” She eyed the door the woman had just exited out of.
“Indeed. Do not get too ahead of yourself Rin. She has been through much in a very short period of time. Do you remember how long it took for me to mark you?” he said to his mate.
“Oh yes. It took you over 10 years to do that. That was such a long time ago.” Rin said as her thoughts drifted back to another time in her life. She had a slight blush on her cheeks as her mate spoke again.
“InuYasha, the fool, scent marked her and then gave her a courting mark all in one evening. If it was not bad enough that he did that, he negated the marks by not attending to his mate and going to the arms of another. This is much to deal with, especially for a human. Most would have crumbled in this situation but the Miko appears only a little worse for wear.” He said thoughtfully.
Kagome opened the door slowly and stood. She took the tray into the room and closed the door. She went about the slow process of a formal tea ceremony for the couple. She had learned this many years ago as part of her upbringing at the Sunset Shrine. She spoke to the couple as she diligently worked on the tea for them.
“What is it that you wish to discuss with me about InuYasha? I left his sight after he crushed my heart with his obvious choice of female. I would prefer not to have to worry about my responsibility to your house for his mishap. He should be the one to answer for his transgressions.” She said in a clear voice. She felt she could at least keep the rouse up for his family. She knew how important it was to keep her emotions in check. This ceremony is meant to be calming to the participants. She did not really want to irritate the tai-youkai in front of her, no matter what his intentions were for his visit here.
“We are not here in a capacity that we require anything from you other than your attention. I am here to apologize for the grievances made by my half-brother.” He said to the young woman in front of him.
He moved back slightly then and did something he had only done a handful of times in his 800 years on the earth. He bowed his head to the floor in prostration to the young woman as she heard him speak. Her eyes widened at the display from the great and powerful lord.
“On behalf of the House of the Moon and the clan of Taisho, rulers of the Western Domain; please accept my humblest apologies for the atrocities put forth by my sibling. You are under no obligation to return to his side. I am offering my protection to you as Lord of the West to redeem our houses’ honor. I would protect you as I would protect my mate, with my very life.” Sesshomaru stated with authority. Rin moved to his side and bowed as well.
“Nii-chan always acts before he thinks. I know this is a lot to try to understand in such a short period of time. I have no doubts in my mind that my daft brother in law has every intention of continuing his courtship of you. He is a bit overbearing and will not back down. He has not returned to us and we were slightly concerned. Those concerns have been put to rest though.” Rin says as her mate returns to his original position and she does the same.
“What do you mean? Why would you not be concerned now then if he has not returned?” Kagome said: the shock still quite evident on her lovely features. The glistening of the unshed tears from the declaration of the lord not going unnoticed and the questions she had all but forgotten.
“InuYasha… Come out…” Sesshomaru said.
Kagome turned at these words and saw none other than the man who had brought the unending pain into her life. The tears she had been holding in started to spill to her cheeks as he entered the room through the window. She was sobbing softly as he moved to his brothers’ side and sat off to the side and a few feet back. He was dressed in his fire rat robes and Kagome could only think how devilishly handsome he looked in the attire.
InuYasha’s ears were plastered to his head as he took in the features of his Angel. He looked her over and could not stop but berate himself further as he looked upon her. She held the scent of a woman who had been absolutely crushed and the continuing tears only added to the pain she was feeling. His soul was hurting just looking at her. He bowed deep and put his head on the floor.
“Kagome… My princess… I am so sorry. I know these words must mean nothing to you. I can not blame you for the hate you must hold for me at this moment. I will not allow my brother to watch over you. That is my job. I want you as my mate: that has not changed. I have much to atone for. I can not tell you how horrible I feel. I am so very sorry.” InuYasha said as he waited for a response. He wanted her to scream at him. That would let him know that things could be ok, at least for now. What he heard next was not expected.
“Lord Sesshomaru, Lady Rin… InuYasha… If you will please excuse me, I have other matters to attend to. I appreciate your company for tea this morning. Lord Sesshomaru I truly appreciate your offer but I will not be taking you up on it. I will be fine taking care of myself. Please feel free to leave at your leisure.” Kagome said weekly and in a very small voice.
She stood and moved to the shoji, determined not to let them see anymore of her tears. She opened the door and moved to the hallway. Once the door was slid shut, she ran to the God tree and collapsed.
Sesshomaru looked harshly upon his only living family, “You will make this right with the Miko. You know as well as I do that you have much to atone for. You have brought shame upon the Taisho name InuYasha.”
Her heart was shattered. Could she believe anything he said? ‘No. I can’t believe him. I won’t let him screw me over again.’ She cried silently, not noticing her would be hanyou lover in the tree just above her. She did not know how long she sat there until she heard the bells indicating that it was 10:00. She wiped her red and swollen eyes and closed up the shrine.
‘What have I done? I have to make things right, and I have to do it fast.’ InuYasha said to himself as he left the grounds and headed to his makeshift room where Miroku was waiting.
Naraku moved to his car as he contemplated all he had just heard. He was able to suppress his aura enough that neither of the dogs could sense nor smell him. He got into his car as an evil smile worked it’s away across his handsome features. ‘Oh yes, this will work to my benefit. Keep fucking up dog… She will be mine along with the treasured jewel she holds.’ He started to laugh as he drove away from the small shrine. He would be sure to come back when she was all alone again.
